Good morning.
'Er indoors has her first radiotherapy session this afternoon, so we'll keep fingers crossed that this (and subsequent ones) do the trick.
Interesting that the Telegraph has splashed with this. Cui bono as the Romans said...

Ha!
Oakeshott appears - and I know this is old news - to be a remarkably horrible person.

As people who follow the football well know, there are matches where you want both sides to lose...

Re Oakeshott, apparently Jacqui Smith told her to shut up on Politics Live yesterday, in so many words.
Even Sunak's right occasionally.Starmer says abolishing non-dom status could release more money for childcare.
Sunak says Labour has already spent the money it claims it would raise form its non-dom policy five times.

Re: Wednesday 1st March 2023
This 'Lockdown Files' stuff from the Telegraph is an absolute bin fire.
Take their most recent article.
Whitty and Vallance raised concerns about shielding - yet it remained for months
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/0 ... -messages/
For example Johnson is asking about making shielding optional for the over 65's because Covid is (according to him) about as dangerous as falling down the stairs. Whitty responds by saying that on a personal level it would be preferable to allow people to make an informed choice about the risks they want to take (which the Telegraph highlights). But (and it's a huge but) he then goes on to point out...
So the Telegraph is grossly misrepresenting what both of them said which comes as no surprise and opposition parties should be very careful about taking anything in these articles at face value.

This is unbelievably disingenuous. If you actually read the WhatsApp messages from Whitty and Vallance, they point out that while shielding is far from ideal, especially in multi-generational households, getting rid of it would lead to an exponential rise in the number of deaths. The Government’s most senior scientific advisers told the prime minister that the implementation of shielding measures was not “very effective” – but ministers still asked 2.2 million people to follow them for months, The Telegraph can disclose.

Vallance says much the same thing, shielding is far from perfect but the alternative is much worse. At a population level the problem is that once R goes above 1 the deaths will start to rise exponentially unless we can entirely isolate the at risk population. Most of those who die in that situation will not have chosen to take the risk.
So the Telegraph is grossly misrepresenting what both of them said which comes as no surprise and opposition parties should be very careful about taking anything in these articles at face value.
