Lineker is back, what an utter clusterf*** for the BBC.

Re: Monday 13th March 2023
In the world inhabited by rw politicians and media types including the high-ups at the BBC, the concept of solidarity seems to be entirely foreign.
Suppose someone in the real world had said to whichever out-of-touch idiot came up with the idea of castigating Lineker, don't do this, the others will support him, you'll lose the sports programming. They wouldn't have believed it.
The class polarity is stark.

@gilsey -- plenty of 'solidarity' on the Right though ! Just a different sort and they are far more organised than the lefties. Still, nice for a change to see that there ARE more of us than there are of them
The beeb apologises for 'potential' confusion, what a load of milquetoasts they are !
A variant on "we're sorry you feel that way".

Solidarity on the right extends just as far and no further than money/power, imo that's a misuse of the word.

Interesting - no, really it is... - article from Nick Timothy (read using the ladder).

Timothy conveniently forgets to mention Robbie Gibb...
And this guideline looks to be a very subjective judgment - who decides?

Um. Isn't there one character right at the moment that has been BBC > No 10 > BBC?Some counterpoints are valid but still do not exonerate Lineker. The rules are clearly not enforced consistently: his past behaviour is proof of that, but other examples – such as Lord Sugar – stand out. While there is a long history of political figures taking up BBC executive and board positions – like James Purnell and Gavyn Davies – the appointment as chairman of Richard Sharp, who acted as an “introductory agent” for an £800,000 personal loan to Boris Johnson, undermines confidence in the independence of the Corporation.

Lineker is clearly in breach of BBC guidelines – whether or not they apply to his contract – which say those who are not journalists but “have an additional responsibility to the BBC because of their profile on the BBC”

Re: Monday 13th March 2023
"avoid taking sides on party political issues or political controversies"
How is it a party political issue if Lineker wouldn't support the Opposition view either?
"Cross-party backing for Tim Davie as he reasserts the principles of independence and impartiality would also be welcome."
Quotes from Timothy's piece, he's a pompous arse.
Nearly missed this gem
"We have no idea, for example, of the personal views of Chris Mason and Laura Kuenssberg, because they have lived and worked by the spirit of the BBC."

This letter relating to the decision to axe the BBC Singers is worth reading...I'd say they need a complete clear-out of BBC management - some of this is just amazing.

https://slippedisc.com/2023/03/leaked-l ... -d-g-down/
We have recently discovered that after this report, which barely mentions singing, was published in
the first half of 2022, an internal memo was sent to the Heads of Departments and Controllers of the
BBC’s network radio stations which recommended that the BBC Singers be axed. Inappropriately,
Mohit Bakaya (Controller of BBC Radio 4) shared this confidential proposal with other BBC staff
members at an external industry event in Germany in October 2022. If that were not unprofessional
enough, the person with whom he shared this information was the Assistant Producer of the BBC
Singers who was at the event. The Assistant Producer (able to afford the BBC greater discretion and
confidentiality than the controller of one of your network stations) reported the matter to us, and we
challenged Lorna Clarke and Rachel Jupp the next working day. Lorna’s eventual reaction was that
Mohit was ‘confused’ with a hypothetical interview question for the role of Controller of BBC Radio 3.
Had we been given the truth, we could have instigated proper dialogue at that time involving the
unions, and enabled the BBC to consult with leading figures in our industry. We were however told
on numerous occasions that no such document existed, no decisions had been made about the future
of the BBC Singers, and that we should continue our advance planning into 2024 and beyond.

Most people agree with "stopping the boats", they also agree with giving legitimate safe routes to refugees.

Re: Monday 13th March 2023
You are missing the point of those tweets, which was that according to the spoxx no safe routes will be installed before the boats are stopped .AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Mon 13 Mar, 2023 4:37 pmMost people agree with "stopping the boats", they also agree with giving legitimate safe routes to refugees.
Perhaps clumsy phrasing by a junior spokesthing, but on the other hand there are no signs of significant safe routes arriving within months or even a few years ?
Has Labour any ideas, or are they just going after the criminal gangs, somehow !

Yes I know, which is why my point is relevant. Tories think just saying "stop the boats" and nothing else is a vote winner - its not.

There's a new attack line on Lineker. I'm not sure it going to take though

Some quite surprising Tory MPs expressing disquiet over the refugees proposals tonight, even if most did what they were told in the end.
