Morning all.

I have to use a holiday day, to take Monday off, so it's only 'kinda'.

It's pretty bad.

But this is why Labour bringing in PR is so critical. For some reason the serf mentality in the Brits remains strong. They vote Labour in when the Tories have become monstrous, and then vote them out again as soon as they've forgotten about it. Only PR will stop the Tories in the long term.

Meanwhile in EuroWorld, Samo Mi Se Spava is a bit different. It starts off with a bloke with ill-advised hair lounging around in a shell and then switches gear a bit and the "dancing" starts.

Things that came to mind during this brief experience were:
- Oh! there's more of the Star Trek/Dr Who vibe
- Why is he killing people? Ah! he's enacting a video game
- That thing in the background looks like a massive swiss army knife

Of course with Liverpool on the horizon he'd have been better off in shellsuit than an actual shell, but perhaps even those glorious days are gone. I must admit on the few and long-ago occasions I've flown from John Lennon airport, I've been worried about my fellow passengers' collective flammability.

Clanger rating:
Was it fun: kind of
Was it dancey: in places/kind of
What would Terry have said about it: I found it difficult enough to know what I had to say about it, so wouldn't presume to imagine.

Its about the media really, and especially maybe the most politically unbalanced press in the "free" world.

If a coalition is more likely than a stand alone Labour government to do something about that, then count me in as desiring that outcome.

Good afternoon.

An...interesting day today.

'Er indoors felt lousy this morning - dizzy, high temperature, extreme tiredness - so after talking to the nurse phoned 999...and they turned up really quickly. Anyway, they've kept her in hospital overnight, so got the bus home and await for news.

Coronation?

Well I got to hear Zadok the Priest which is the inly bit I wanted to hear...

WTF? The Met police are now arresting their own volunteers. Apparently they were arrested for carrying rape alarms which they hand out to women.

(Deleted previous post because Refitman had already posted it yesterday).

It's always been a fool's errand scaling local election results up to a national level. Having said that will Labour be slightly disappointed? Absolutely. But if I were a Tory I'd be shitting bricks. Sunak was supposed to have steadied the ship, these are supposed to be the good times, yet they lose 1000 councillors and half their councils. They got trounced in the red wall, trounced in the blue wall, they're essentially taking fire from both flanks and I can't see a way out for them. Whatever they do to appease one side pisses off the other. The only reason they're still in contention at the next GE is our electoral system is swayed in their favour but the tactical voting we're already seeing completely negates that. In the past we've seen splits in the right wing vote which the Tories managed to stitch back together when it came to General Elections, but not this time. There's no Ukip or Brexit Party hoovering up their votes, it's the Lib Dems and Greens, while Labour snaffles back the brexiters. How many of those are going to go back to voting Tory?

So while it's almost pointless trying to figure out where the opposition parties are based on those results (are the Lib Dems really on 20%) due to tactical voting and a whole host of independents, the one thing that is clear is the Conservatives really are doing as badly as the polling suggests and look like a dead party walking.

No the LibDems are not "really" on 20%, nor are the Greens "really" on over 10% for that matter.

And as I said yesterday, "estimates" on how a GE would have gone this week assuming over 50 SNP members again can get in the bin.

Slovenia's "Carpe Diem" was inexplicably ace. Joker Out pose as a bunch of youths checking into the Hotel Carpe Diem, where every lift and guest room turns out to be a nightclub. The musical style is classic Eurovision for which it should be heartily applauded. Plus there are glitter balls, and a dour receptionist who surprises everyone by turning into John Travolta. Best of all, there are no ducks and no murders.

The "every room is a disco" thing, reminded me of a recurring dream I used to have where I kept finding a room (and occasionally a garden) in my abode, that I didn't know I had. There were three different dreams and after a while I would know which house/flat I was in when I started dreaming it, and then actively look forward to when I would discover the new room/garden. It was quite weird repeatedly recognising something while dreaming that i have only ever dreamt up in the first place.

Clanger rating
Was it fun: yes
Was it dancey: the people in the video seemed to think so
What would Terry have said about it: Probably something about the expectation management of guests checking into a hotel that's actually a nightclub

Lammy just says that they can't repeal everything, not that they will repeal nothing. And no, that's not a "defence" as much as a factual statement.

On the other hand, he could have said something like "after the apparent overreach of the Met this weekend, even going so far as to arrest their own volunteers, we would certainly consider reviewing legislation like this".

It's not hard to even just give the appearance of disagreeing with the Tories. He wouldn't even have to mean it.

But they're not, its just that proposing too much detailed stuff too soon makes it easier for the Tories and their client press to lie and scare people.

It would be better if it wasn't that way, but it will be until we get significant political and media reform.

But they're not offering ANYTHING. ALL the Labour messaging so far is "we will do the same things as the Tories, but more efficiently". More cracking down on people on benefits, More private involvement in the NHS. No additional environmental protections. No additional workers rights. More police. Tougher courts.

Renfield.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11358390/

Absolutely bloody brilliant! Literally. I'm still wiping away tears of laughter from some of the most over the top gory comedy violence you're ever likely to see.

Nicolas Cage is Dracula, and he's great! None of that namby pamby Twilight bollocks with sensitive blood suckers. Cage's Dracula is a proper evil vampire who decides he's not being evil enough so becomes more evil with plans for world domination.

Renfield (Nicholas Hoult) is, for those not familiar with Dracula, Dracula's familiar. He's spent a century procuring victims for his master but when they find themselves in New Orleans he stumbles across a self help group for people in abusive relationships and begins to question his circumstances. One ridiculous thing leads to another, involving a drug gang (run by the always marvellous Shohreh Aghdashloo) and a cop (the surprisingly good Awkwafina). Inspired by the group Renfield attempts to escape his abusive relationship with Dracula, who does not take it well to say the least and bloody mayhem ensues.

It's camp, comic, splendid, bloody fun, and I haven't laughed as much in ages. Despite Cage playing almost a supporting role this is well up there on the Cageometer and I'd have no hesitation giving it a 5/5.

If horror comedy is your thing (think Evil Dead) this is a must see. If you can't tell already I absolutely loved it.

Once there was a time, a long time ago it now seems, when I shared AK's naive hope that Starmer's Labour were just pretending to be arseholes for performative purposes. 'Let's trick these thick red wall twats into thinking we're on their side while really we're an enlightened intelligent party ready to undo all this Tory nonsense and all that comes with it'.

And it wasn't just me, or AK, who believed it, it was those urban areas most replete with graduates. Smart people voted Labour while the Tories swept up those with no further education.

Not this time though. Looking at the figures we smug smart fuckers left Labour in our droves but they attracted enough brexiteer fuckwits to make up the difference.

Labour took the Scots for granted and look where it got them. They took remainers for granted and look where it got them. Now they're taking anyone with half a brain for granted and we'll see where it gets them.
