Johnson's cultists still saying he will return to the Commons, even before the next GE :D

If he carries on with this s***, I actually wouldn't rule out the Tories doing to him what Starmer did to Corbyn.

(if not the p*** weak Sunak, then maybe his successor as leader)

Initially thought that meant another byelection. Spoilsport.

EDIT: though now we do have another one, in Selby! Any advance on three?

Good afternoon.

And yes, there is another one...

If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Farage threatening us with a good time in the Telegraph.

There is an establishment plot to reverse Brexit

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/0 ... everse-br/
Soon we could face a Labour government which would waste no time in aligning us with single market rules. Under Starmer, Brino – Brexit in Name Only – will take root. Without an opposition to fight for an independent Britain, it will only be a matter of time before we become an associate member of the EU. Brexit will be dead.

It's actually been quite interesting seeing the lack of furore about Johnson's departure amongst right wing journalists and pundits. Other than a cringeworthy fluff piece by David Frost and some whingeing by Farage there's nothing in the Telegraph and despite being given the opportunity Oakeshott conspicuously failed to come to his defence this morning. It would seem much of the right doesn't want to touch him with a shitty stick. Unlike his rapidly evaporating puddle of supporters still claiming he's a populist colossus maybe they can read the polls and heard the cheering on Any Questions.

Despite his delusions of grandeur it looks to me like he's gone with a petulant whimper with most of those who once supported him, whether in his party, the press or the public, glad to see the back of him. If I were a betting man I'd put money on us never seeing him in politics again.

Seeking Justice

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1214962/

We're back in New Orleans where this time Nicolas Cage is a mild mannered English teacher whose wife is beaten and raped. He is approached by a shaven headed Guy Pearce from Neighbours who explains he represents a secret vigilante organisation and offers to have the rapist snuffed out. The only catch is Cage will have to do the organisation a favour sometime in the future. Despite being initially reluctant Cage agrees only to find out that the favour he is asked to do is to murder someone else and he's in a whole heap of shit.

Apparently this one earned Cage a Razzie Award nomination, which given some of the other garbage he's been in seems more than unfair. This was actually a fairly competently made (if utterly uninspired) thriller and Cage genuinely seemed to be making an effort. Yes it was disappointing that he played it straight and didn't go crazy at any stage but he wasn't the problem. Who the hell casts Mike from Neighbours (Guy Pearce) as the villain? Even with a buzz cut he's about as threatening as a five week old kitten. I was left wondering why Cage didn't just kick his ass. I mean at one point Cage punches one of his own students but he's afraid of some dweeb from Ramsay Street? Come on.

In all fairness I haven't seen Neighbours since I was at college in the Nineties when it was a lunchtime double bill with Going for Gold and I'm aware that Guy Pearce has made a name for himself in Hollywood because I saw him in Ravenous (excellent), The Time Machine (absolute shite) and some other film I can't quite remember.

Anyway on the Cageometer I'd have to give this one a 2/5.

Cage does his best but it's a paint it by numbers thriller that I wouldn't recommend to anyone. I only watched because I'm drunk.

It's June in Yorkshire with the windows wide open at night and my trusty thermometer says 23°c.

This is some fucked up shit.

It hasn't rained for at least a month. Christ knows what my landlord's water bill is going to be. The house is on a meter and I'm using about 20 litres a day just keeping my little garden alive and that's before the tomatoes get thirsty.

Also I had to squash a rather large mosquito that was helping itself to my blood earlier. I'd never seen anything like it before, maybe half an inch long with black and white stripes. I've now got a lump on my arm where it bit me and if I end up with Dengue fever I'll be most aggrieved.

I know I preach kindness to insects but we all have our limits.
