Good morning.
Hannah Dingley makes history as she takes charge of Forest Green Rovers
Only league 2, and temporary, but still.

Morning.
I see Tony Blair is doing his 'third way' stuff on the NHS again. Lapped up by the right who usually tell him to stay out of it.
And this from the Telegraph article.

Well you can lay that directly at the door of Andrew Lansley. The comments come after former Health Secretary Sajid Javid called for a Royal Commission into the NHS, saying patients were being failed “as a direct consequence” of how the health system is structured.

Re twitter & Musk, I'm often reminded of the old saying
'How do you make a small fortune out of a vineyard? Start with a large one'.
Incidentally, I haven't come up against the new limit at all, obviously I'm not as addicted as I thought.

I think he's quietly got rid of the limits - haven't seen anyone complain that they've been locked out for a few days.

Most of Lansley's reforms have already been unwound afaik, but the chaos of implementing and then reversing is definitely part of the problem.RogerOThornhill wrote: ↑Wed 05 Jul, 2023 10:04 am Morning.

Javid's just saying the usual things about how some nebulous 'reforms' will make the NHS better without spending more money. See also Streeting.

Ben Chu
@BenChu_
...Worth noting that today's joint letter from the Health Foundation, the Nuffield Trust and the Kings Fund does *not* call for structural/institutional reforms of the NHS

Re: Wednesday 5th July 2023
I see Miriam Cates is doing one of those "essentially" things here which means 'I'm making this up'.
The practical and financial details need careful analysis. But it is the social implications of this policy that are most concerning. Speaking this week, Bridget Phillipson, the shadow education secretary, says that “you can make the biggest impact in the early years”.
Experts certainly agree that the care given between birth and age two has more influence on a child’s future than at any other time in their life. But who is the “you” to whom Phillipson refers? The implication is that it is the state that can have the biggest impact in a child’s early life and, by extension, that this must be achieved by superseding the role of the parent. The logical conclusion is that the role of families should be diminished and responsibility for raising children transferred to the state, otherwise there will always be “inequality”.
This is a deeply troubling stance, although not a surprising one. Left-wing thinkers are suspicious of families and parents, and socialist movements across the world promote universal state childcare from infancy.

Re: Wednesday 5th July 2023
I watched Politics Live today pre PMQs and wondered how they're going to get the left-leaning journalists and pundits to make up the panel if (when) Labour win the next election. Today they had regulation Tory MP and Labour MP, together with Ellie Whelan, of Spiked (she's described as libertarian which I take as = right wing) and Melanie Phillips, of the Times (no additional comment necessary). The same question will apply to Question Time, of course, in selecting the audience, as well.
Actually, the Labour MP is sometimes missing, to allow a representative of a smaller party in. Won't it be fun to see how often there's no Tory present. And I'm looking forward to see who is brought in from the left to replace the regular extreme right winger - like Claire Fox or Alex Phillips. Actually, with Fox's Revolutionary Communist / Living Marxist background she'd be a shoo-in!

Twitter still not working properly, even if the crude daily limit may have gone. Thank you for doing your best to ruin a perfectly good platform, Elon.

Have we seen this? Proper bonkers stuff.
"I've been a university professor for more than 20 years". Nope. Since 2015 apparently. Not sure I trust anyone who can't get their own biog right.

Actually, the joke is on Corbynites there - in a democracy 30% counts for little if the other 70% hate your guts.
But no, Not A Cult.

Nah, it's hilarious that a politician who ONLY appears in the news when being attacked - most recently for have the temerity to pick a poem - is the most popular.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Wed 05 Jul, 2023 4:07 pm Actually, the joke is on Corbynites there - in a democracy 30% counts for little if the other 70% hate your guts.

He isn't the "most popular" in how that term is more normally defined in politics, though (which is *net* popularity)
And also, hardly being mentioned in a hostile media these days is surely more likely to improve his numbers than the opposite.

With the NHS crumbling, the Gov looking to close all the ticket offices and a (self-inflicted) immigration crisis, at least Wes has his priorities straight
Will it be 500 pages of "and then another private medical company gave me a big donation"?

Can you imagine, if the Labour leadership showed this much passion over the NHS
