I see Tony Blair is doing his 'third way' stuff on the NHS again. Lapped up by the right who usually tell him to stay out of it.

And this from the Telegraph article.

The comments come after former Health Secretary Sajid Javid called for a Royal Commission into the NHS, saying patients were being failed “as a direct consequence” of how the health system is structured.

Well you can lay that directly at the door of Andrew Lansley.

I think he's quietly got rid of the limits - haven't seen anyone complain that they've been locked out for a few days.

Most of Lansley's reforms have already been unwound afaik, but the chaos of implementing and then reversing is definitely part of the problem.

Javid's just saying the usual things about how some nebulous 'reforms' will make the NHS better without spending more money. See also Streeting.

I see Miriam Cates is doing one of those "essentially" things here which means 'I'm making this up'.

The practical and financial details need careful analysis. But it is the social implications of this policy that are most concerning. Speaking this week, Bridget Phillipson, the shadow education secretary, says that “you can make the biggest impact in the early years”.

Experts certainly agree that the care given between birth and age two has more influence on a child’s future than at any other time in their life. But who is the “you” to whom Phillipson refers? The implication is that it is the state that can have the biggest impact in a child’s early life and, by extension, that this must be achieved by superseding the role of the parent. The logical conclusion is that the role of families should be diminished and responsibility for raising children transferred to the state, otherwise there will always be “inequality”.

This is a deeply troubling stance, although not a surprising one. Left-wing thinkers are suspicious of families and parents, and socialist movements across the world promote universal state childcare from infancy.

I watched Politics Live today pre PMQs and wondered how they're going to get the left-leaning journalists and pundits to make up the panel if (when) Labour win the next election. Today they had regulation Tory MP and Labour MP, together with Ellie Whelan, of Spiked (she's described as libertarian which I take as = right wing) and Melanie Phillips, of the Times (no additional comment necessary). The same question will apply to Question Time, of course, in selecting the audience, as well.

Actually, the Labour MP is sometimes missing, to allow a representative of a smaller party in. Won't it be fun to see how often there's no Tory present. And I'm looking forward to see who is brought in from the left to replace the regular extreme right winger - like Claire Fox or Alex Phillips. Actually, with Fox's Revolutionary Communist / Living Marxist background she'd be a shoo-in!

Nah, it's hilarious that a politician who ONLY appears in the news when being attacked - most recently for have the temerity to pick a poem - is the most popular.

That and little Luke losing his shiit trying to prove otherwise.
