Of what? sorry am trying to understand but the apparent lack of units leaves me perplexed.
Am sure it's me - because that's life these days, right?

Sympathy for the Devil

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21991654/

After an unprecedented run of genuinely good films can Nicolas Cage keep the ball rolling?

Sort of.

Anyone can enjoy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent or Renfield but this one's for Cage connoisseurs. The plot is paper thin, it exists only to allow Cage an excuse to be violently insane for 90 minutes while wearing a ridiculous red wig. For those unappreciative of his genius the film could appear to be a self indulgent pastiche of just about every performance he's ever given, but for the true Cage adherent it's like watching a master craftsman at work.

He tortures some guy on a demented road trip/kidnapping. Kills a bunch of people. Blows shit up. Becomes increasingly frenzied. And as the title suggest you're not supposed to know if he's the real bad guy. I mean sure, he keeps shooting innocent people, but maybe the guy he's kidnapped is worse?

On the Cageometer, I'd give it a 7/10.

He was clearly enjoying himself and while the wig looked like someone had scalped a J-pop singer and stuck it on Cage's head, at least his beard looked semi-natural.

I guess it depends how you look at it. In Europe we're living through the most peaceful and prosperous period in its history. Most of it has been horrifically violent with endless pointless wars about territory, resources or religion. The Thirty Years war killed more Germans than the Second World war. Can you imagine that? All done by hand.

We're all here Western children of the Sixties or Seventies. So we grew up in a social environment that was more revolutionary liberal than anything seen before in human history. So we're biased, we see humanity through the lens we grew up to view the world through. We think we're the arbiters of rational human progress.

But if there's one thing history teaches us it's that humans aren't rational, and that brief periods of enlightenment have previously either been snuffed out or exploited by the rich and powerful for their own gain.

Back in the day the ancient Athenians or French had revolutions which they hoped would sort out the problem but in both cases they ended up with militaristic dictators who made things worse.

My advice? Fuck knows. Walk up a hill and enjoy the scenery and if you can't do that get wasted and let all your worries melt away. For a few hours. Though I would advise paying attention to the sign above the Oracle of Delphi which said 'nothing in excess'. I am trying.
