Re: Tuesday 29th August 2023
Just watched the latest Indiana Jones film which got some pretty bad reviews and did poorly at the box office and I enjoyed it. It was infinitely better than the Crystal Skull abomination.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge made an unexpectedly good jolly hockey sticks action heroine, the Nazis are back, and Harrison Ford seemed to be enjoying himself trying to persuade us that an 81 year old man can still go around knocking out Nazis with a single punch and throwing himself from one moving vehicle to another. The only naffness is the first 20 minutes where they de-age him so his face looks like something from a computer game. very uncanny valley.
It's a perfectly enjoyable romp and I've no idea why it's been so poorly received.

Not just anti-trans but overtly homophobic as well. How delightful.
Still I suppose for some people it'll take time to get used to gender swapping in plays, after all it's quite a modern practice that's only been going on for 2500 years.

PWB seems to be an actress that it is fashionable to slag off at present. I know she is posh and that will put some off, but she is also pretty talented.

Heh. Most amusingly Leeds have just been beaten by Salford City in the league cup. That's gotta hurt. Being beaten by Man Utd would be bad, but imagine being beaten by a jumped up non-league team owned by ex-Man Utd players.

Re: Tuesday 29th August 2023
As for Covid, it's a horrible disease which has cost millions of lives including one of our own.
None of us are stupid, we all understand it's here to stay, and none of us subscribe to any conspiracy theories.
So could I just gently suggest that we could do without being reminded of it every day?
I don't want to step on Froggy's toes and cause any offence, we all have our quirks (even me). I'm just unsure what we're supposed to do with all this information.
It seems to me given the circumstances that those of us fortunate enough to have at least vaguely functional immune systems have been given about as much help as modern medicine can provide. There's nothing more to give. So the choice is ours about we live our lives and weigh the risks.
Covid can't be wiped out like smallpox for example. Smallpox only infects humans whereas Covid infects multiple animal species so even if you vaccinated every single human on the planet there would always be millions of animals transmitting new variants of the virus. It's not going anywhere.
Yes we should do blatantly obvious things like improving ventilation in buildings and wearing masks on public transport if we're ill, but beyond that what more can we do?
Covid is just another layer to add to the patina of shit that coats our existence. If you're still alive count yourself lucky. A handful of Spaniards killed millions in central and South America with their germs, the neolithic farmers (who put up Stonehenge) were wiped out by the Beaker People bringing bronze and new diseases. If it wasn't for modern medicine half of us would probably be dead.
For one of us it didn't come soon enough.
