Good morfternoon.
Rishi Sunak has pledged to end “anti-car measures” as he set out a series of ideas to prioritise the needs of drivers (Guardian)

Nice try.
Technical error at DVLA adds £7.50 and weeks’ delay for driving licence renewal

Drivers have to use more costly post office or postal options because of online identity verification problem

. . . many who have tried to use post-Brexit passports have received a pop-up message saying that their application cannot continue because their passport is invalid. (Guardian)

I remember Lansley screaming that before the 2010 GE, which torpedoed a potential cross-party deal on social care :fire:

Good morning PF, it's lovely to see you but we don't usually have a new thread for Sunday?

I've made the same innovation elsewhere, one advantage of being long-retired :-)

No question that an incitement to murder a witness would immediately see a Mafia boss banged up awaiting trial,

but Trump ?

Good morning.

Boys Smith is one of the more interesting and thoughtful Tories I've found. This is worth a read.

The answer seems to be "yes", although it took me a minute to remember how to do that

My friend and I passed the police tonight at a double murder scene on our way to a Persian restaurant.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-leeds-66966294

It was pretty grim, there seemed to be a subdued pall over the area all day. Then we got to the restaurant only to find out it was fully booked. There was a birthday party going on for a 92 year old lady called Mary. There must have been about 30 people there, friends and family, and it's a tiny place so there weren't any tables left but they were all absolutely lovely and made room for us and made us welcome.

It's a funny old world, isn't it? One minute everything's horrible and the next...

The restaurant does corkage so we had a bottle of wine with us but we were plied with so much other booze (even Mary was on the sherry) that my friend was noticeably staggering on the way back to my place.

Sometimes this world doesn't seem so shit after all.

Anyway I see Hunt is coming after the thousands of people like me on benefits who even Iain Duncan Smith deemed too sick to work.

Mel Stride, our current fat faced minister for making the lives of the unemployed and sick or disabled miserable, is at this very moment having a 'consultation' about removing certain categories from the Work Capability Assessment he deems superfluous now that we can all walk into a job at home. These almost entirely concern people with mental health problems, even including whether someone is a danger to themselves or others. Because if you work from home what does that matter? Who cares if you're suicidal? Not the DWP.

It would be nice to think if Labour got in next year none of this would happen...but Starmer has just made Liz Kendall shadow secretary for work and pensions. A vacuous Blairite simpleton who supported Tory benefit caps even when she ran for the Labour leadership.

Wonderful.
