Morning refit

The 0535 paper review — pointed out that those new sanctions were one difference with the Opposition. Looking forward to journos seizing on that in the morning’s interviews … which I won't listen to as R4 goes OFF after Farming Today . (Carrots at the farm gate are now cheaper than some years ago, ffs !)

Will Liz Kendall call for even tougher sanctions or just support the Tories ?

Peter Brookes was 80 last week and there's an article on him today
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/pete ... -cjc7d6nmz

Unfortunately I can't copy the one heading the article, it is very cruel indeed .
" The hero, or antihero, of Torrid Times is Boris Johnson, whose chaotic exit from office befitted his tenure of it. He is depicted severally as a pig, in a coffin, trussed in leather bondage, burning in hell next to Prince Andrew, manhandling Volodymyr Zelensky as a human shield and, definitively, as a lying toad (in one of the Nature Notes Brookes has been drawing since 1996, once The Times went full-colour). Does he hate the man?

“I find it difficult to use that word of anybody,” he says. “There’s enough hatred in the world without me adding to it, if that doesn’t sound too high-minded. Rather I found him, amongst other character flaws, a self-obsessed liar who was patently unworthy of holding the office of prime minister. Surely the worst we’ve ever had?”

He corrects himself. “I think it’s generally acknowledged that Liz Truss was that. Let’s just say he runs her a very close second, which is going some and in no way alters his ranking in the very top echelons of shits and shysters.”

Today's is not the greatest, but you can't win 'em all --

Sharkey was a spokesman for some corporation not so long ago - his reinvention is quite something (though not unwelcome)

So far we've had Gillian Keegan saying that phones will be banned in the classroom - something the DfE said only last year was not necessary since most schools have that policy anyway; and Danny Kruger doing the "they're trying to control us!" crap.
"There's a huge movement going on globally to create essentially a world government that will have power to dictate to national governments what they should do in anticipation of another pandemic," says Danny Kruger, who says there is "no greater threat to our national democracy"

Odd that the original Guido tweet about this has been deleted. Wonder what it was about?

Ah, found it.

The former Tory MP was suspended in April and now sits as an independent.

The suspension was put in place after he was recorded offering to lobby ministers and leak confidential information on behalf of investors from the gambling industry.

Though it didn't happen, in fact it was one thing that Brown ditched soon after becoming PM.

I wonder if we'll get any similar messaging officially from Labour?
