From a quick look it appears that the NAO still exists, so what is it doing on this lot--

Again, you would almost think Starmer could solve it with a click of his fingers or something.

Is it also some of the left, as well as much of the right, who has a rather exaggerated impression of our current importance in the world?

A reminder that the Canute story is actually him showing his sycophantic courtiers that he was not, after all, omnipotent :)

Just suspend your historical knowledge fer a bit and join the majority of your fellow 'subjects' :-)

Well, if calls for peace won't have an effect, then there's no problem in issuing them, is there?

Seriously, why do you have such a problem with people not wanting Israel to murder an entire city?

I have a problem with them not realising they are utterly powerless to prevent it.

If every single Labour councillor and party member resigned "in disgust at Starmer" tomorrow, it would not save the life of a single Gazan child.

It might, however, perpetuate continued Tory rule. And in the real world we actually live in, a lot of people are actually bothered about that.

Much as I'd like to get drunk and shout abuse at Jacob Rees-Mogg I'm heading North tomorrow and don't want to be doing it with a hangover so no QT review tonight I'm afraid.

You are still Leeds based, Sky?

So if I guessed the name of your MP wrong last night who does that leave - Fabian Hamilton possibly?

Nah, fuck off. I'm not having that. "Palestinians must die otherwise the Tories might get in" is an abhorrent, disgusting thing to say. You're endorsing the potential genocide of an entire people, for a few votes.

Also, how in the suffering fuck is Keir Starmer saying "Israel and Hamas must come to a ceasefire and stop the deaths of innocent civilians" letting the Tories in??

The letter specifically says they that they know nothing would change in Gaza if Starmer called for a ceasefire.

Why do you repeatedly suggest that people calling for a ceasefire aren't aware of our powerlessness?

Of course they are, maybe they just can't stomach calling for an 'humanitarian pause' which implicitly accepts that Israel can go back to killing civilians afterwards. What are we saying, it's ok to bomb them as long as they've been fed and watered?

Maybe a pause might lead to something more? Maybe, indeed, that is a reason why Netanyahu and his gang are so wary of it??

There is still, however, more chance of it happening right now than an all out ceasefire.
