More convolutions !
According to the chain of events, this was also possibly linked to the fact that Narayana Murthy, founder of Infosys, and Peter Thiel, the owner of Palantir, had business links. Why this matter is that Rishi Sunak, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, who is also the son-in-law of Murthy, was “inadvertently” selling the NHS to both the companies for no bid prices.
Re: Wednesday 20th March 2024
Another classic of a Tweeter making their point ... based on an under-researched bit of 'journalism'
Based on this Xitt you wouldn't know that both govts were doing the same thing, or were they really ....!P&O crew members interviewed by the Guardian and ITV News said they worked 12-hour shifts, seven days a week, for up to 17 weeks at a time. The workers said they must remain on the ship until their contract ends.
Before the new French legislation bites, operators will be given a three-month implementation period. Rival ferry groups paying at least minimum wage fear that during that window P&O and another low-cost operator, Irish Ferries, may launch a legal challenge.
Similar legislation in the UK to prevent crew being paid less than the minimum wage is expected to come into force this summer. The UK minimum wage now stands at £10.42 an hour and will rise to £11.44 an hour from April.
Once both laws become active, any ferry company found to be paying less than the minimum wage could be fined about £76,000 a day – roughly split equally between fines by UK and French authorities – according to an analysis by Brittany Ferries, which has not adopted a low-cost business model.
Re: Wednesday 20th March 2024
The first of April will be the fifteenth anniversary of my 2009 stroke which was a very interesting experience all round as I was extremely lucky to have months of rehab including six weeks overlooking the beach at the excellent Granville centre .
I try to celebrate it every year with my first dip in the sea, which usually lasts only a few minutes as it's still (to me) bloody cold .
Forecast now is for two warm days, then COLD again including the end of the month ... so am planning my first symbolic dip this afternoon !
Having thick walls it was colder inside than out so I lit the stove . Top approaching 300°C when I will pour on some chemical to convert the SS stovepipe tar deposits to soot for the Spring sweeping .
Then for some mowing when the grass dries ...

Sunak seems to have grown fond of attacking Starmer for doing his actual job as a lawyer.

Apparently Leo Varadkar has resigned as Taoiseach “for personal & political reasons”.

One of three PMs in Europe of indian extraction - the other (Costa) is about to step aside following the recent Portuguese election.
Which will just leave Sunak - but for how long?

Had to laugh when Stephen Flynn asked Sunak which of the born-again Thatcherites on the Labour frontbench would be best suited to replace him.

Short list, even so.
He is a charmless nerk, Blackford did it better whatever else you say about him.

Now now AK, he's far from charmless, he had the commons in stitches, even Sunak was laughing and I bet there were plenty on Starmer's back benches who were chuckling to themselves,
If the Labour front bench keep offering him open goals what's he supposed to do? Ignore them? Labour are the SNP's main competition in Scotland where Thatcher is about as popular as explosive diarrhoea. It would be a dereliction of duty if he wasn't mocking Labour's new found love for Maggie.

So he came out with a goodish joke, OK then.
I think even Sunak has managed that at least once.

Nah, I'm fine
Actually, have remembered the PM's quip now - it was after the Mid Beds byelection and he commented that at least the new Labour MP would actually be more supportive of him than their predecessor for that seat had been. Even lots of the opposition benches found it genuinely funny.

Re: Wednesday 20th March 2024
Just caught up with the Pottery Throwdown final. Won't give away any spoilers in case anyone hasn't seen it but the right person won.
Talking of TV I won't be around tomorrow evening as I'm off for a long weekend visiting my brother and his wife so no QT review I'm afraid.
Which is probably just as well as that pitiful, odious creep Rod Liddle is on and I absolutely fucking despise him. Having Mad Mel on last week was one thing, but it's quite another to invite on a 'man' who assaulted his pregnant girlfriend, made Auschwitz jokes on a football forum and was too much of a coward to admit it so pretended he'd been hacked (before having to admit the truth), and revels in being an all round racist, misogynistic dickhead. Like Johnson he's a toxic child in a flabby man's body, he even maintains the same faux dishevelled shtick. Just looking at him makes me sick.
So yeah, I'm kinda glad I won't be watching.

Liddle has also got worse rather than better over time, back in the noughties he did have some redeeming features.

Like Hitchens, and Phillips before him he was once of the left, in his case the Socialist Worker Party. I don't know how many of you have met these people but I have. I had one as a landlord and they're the biggest hypocrites I've ever met in my life.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar, 2024 11:00 pm Liddle has also got worse rather than better over time, back in the noughties he did have some redeeming features.

I've only ever watched one episode of Throwdown (at Xmas), but it was fun. I should watch more. I do follow Rose Schmidt on social media and she posts some wonderful (and weird) pots.Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Wed 20 Mar, 2024 10:13 pm Just caught up with the Pottery Throwdown final. Have fun with your family, looks like you've picked a good week to skip QT.
