Morning refit

Gilsey having been an accountant reminded me of the olden days on Prem Sikka's accountancy threads at the G . Generally only a few score comments, and we had fun ! Steve Hill FCA etc defended the nobility and selflessness of the Big Four against all comers .

A little similar fun at The Times Ukraine threads where I'm not 100% sure the RU trolls are AI or just misguided or plain mercenary humans, but anyway several human commenters do tease them . Yesterday's was about RU-speakers being persecuted etc etc , all very Adolf and the Sudetenland .

Elections 2024: Conservatives ramping up disinformation campaign
As the mayoral and council elections loom, evidence mounts of disinformation tactics to smear the opposition
The London Conservatives have been engaging in a campaign aimed at spreading fear around Khan’s supposed policies. A leaflet being put through Londoners’ doors warns of the Labour mayor’s proposed policy to further tax drivers with a ‘pay-per-mile’ scheme – a policy that has been repeatedly denied.

More fuel has been added to the fire by right-wing media – the Telegraph and the Daily Mail – who claimed that Khan was investing £150mn in “secret” technology aimed at facilitating a pay-per-mile scheme. However, Khan has declared that “as long as I am mayor”, there will be no such charges.

Conservative candidate for the London Assembly, Callum McGillivray, described the non-existent pay-per-mile scheme, in a video on social media, as “the final deadly blow to motorists, carers, small businesses and tradespeople”. Had he been talking about the Conservatives themselves, his statement would hardly have needed any fact-checking.

This old-fashioned photoshopping is easy stuff --

Just WAIT to see our AI Deepfake of Khan plotting this with his shady backers ...

which will come out 36hours before the election !

Many, perhaps most, people have now totally tuned out from anything the Tories say or do though.

LOCAL tax offices with local inspectors and employees and knowledge,

Most of which has now been disproved by events.

As someone who's struggled with mental health issues his entire adult life and who consequently knows a little bit about the subject I'm struggling to narrow down exactly which condition could possibly turn someone racist and cause them to 'not be aware' of themselves posting multiple racist tweets over a number of years.

Unless racist dickophrenia is now a thing.

A Conservative Birmingham city councillor is today exposed for sharing insulting and Islamaphobic social media posts. Rick Payne, 59, an army veteran, who represents the ward of Kingstanding, has shared multiple messages on the platform X, formerly Twitter, referring to Islam as a dangerous religion and pressing for people to ‘take Britain back’.

He speaks of a ‘civil uprising’ on the way and says ‘blood will spill’. In one tweeted exchange with disgraced extremist Tommy Robinson he shockingly refers to Pakistanis as ‘disgusting inbred medieval filth’ and ‘dirtier than pigs’, a theme he returns to in multiple more tweets.

Today, in response to our inquiries, a 'deeply sorry' Mr Payne said he had been 'suffering from mental health issues'. He has deleted the account. In a tearful statement, he also pledged to take up offers of support. He has been suspended by the Conservative group on Birmingham City Council, who say they are offering specialist support.

You know how Sky posts sometimes obscure, but always interesting songs late at night? Well this is one of those (not the second qualifier)

Actually mental health issues *can* contribute to bad behaviour online - indeed it is a tell if someone suddenly starts being obnoxious or whatever on the net when they aren't normally. Yes it does look like a bit of an excuse in this instance, though.

Indeed they can, but can they turn you racist?

Maybe it's like one of those people who have a bang on the head and suddenly start speaking Welsh, but in this case he woke up speaking far right wanker. It's a shame Oliver Sacks is no longer with us to write a book about him.

I'm not going to lie Refit, I was expecting a musical offering from Steven Seagal to be as bad as his films, but unaccountably it was actually great.

She was on CH4 news this evening talking about cracking down on tax avoiders and the like but I ended up being preoccupied by the fact that her facial expression remained exactly the same throughout the entire interview. It was as if her face was being worked by some body snatching alien that didn't know how real humans communicate. If it had been a John Carpenter film and I was Kurt Russell I'd have burned her with a flamethrower.

Did anyone see Alan Bates' testimony to the Post Office enquiry today?

I only caught a bit of it during which he was asked about a meeting he had with Ed Davey. He looked somewhat perplexed for a few seconds before admitting he couldn't recall anything about it.

Which I expect is a fairly common occurrence.

That was supposed to be a Jamaican accent? I thought he was doing some weird bhangra crossover thing. I even pictured him with little cymbals on his fingers bobbing his head from side to side in a sari.

As for professing his love for punani, I would hazard a guess that it's unrequited unless he pays for it.

Still a good tune though.
