With the exception of the vocabulary, political campaigning - and the viewpoint of some of the chatterati - gets more American with each election. It reminds me of the Romney aide who said angrily, as if he was the victim of meddling rather than part of an active attempt to lie to voters:

The more you think about what that says about their attitude, the more terrifying it is. It's also one reason why I've got such a problem with narrative-based politics - it substitutes the believability of a story as the only measure of its value entirely ignoring whether it contains any amount of true. *sigh*

I've just begun looking into who my Labour candidate is, not the guy I spoke to that stood last time but Cheryl Pidgeon. I'm guessing former Midlands TUC Regional Secretary as it doesn't actually say but was surprised that her mobile number is included on her profile on Labour's site. Should I feel the need to contact her I shall use her email address but then I would say that as a past OU tutor. Yeah students had my telephone number but I never gave out my mobile. Even then I'd encourage their use of email to which I could respond as convenient.

Edit: silly me there is always text, the manner in which I mostly use mobiles. Still surprised by her number's inclusion though, I'd hate (unknown) people ringing me whenever on a whim.

Our PPC has her own private mobile number and another one for Labour Party business. Perhaps it's the same with Ms Pidgeon?
