Someone on Cif says:

''anyone who grew up on a farm and bottle-fed orphaned lambs will know you don't use a 1 1/2 litre bottle to do it - the lamb would choke. I think the RSPCA should be called in.''

Flagship Universal Credit in 'disarray' study finds

A study has found that Universal Credit, one of the Government's flagship policies, is in "disarray", suffering from a lack of staff, poor training and inadequate IT.

Finally it's getting some decent publicity....

They won't do anything. They reckon they can't afford to prosecute fox hunters.

Quite. I'm not a fan of the RSPCA. Try ringing them up and see what sort of a response you get when you ask them to take action on anything. They're a sanctimonious talking shop with a uniform.

Double quite.
I've probably bored you before with my sorry tale of how the RSPCA refused to help with an aggressive feral cat.
I ended up in hospital on an antibiotic drip with infection tracking up my arm after it shredded my hand and arm, and that was after we'd asked them numerous times for help.
The cat needed treatment for a huge abscess and other health problems, which we discovered after a neighbour managed to catch it. Which is what I had told the RSPCA was likely, but they still gave us the bum's rush.

That's why I never donate to the RSPCA but donate and sponsor cats at the Cat Protection League.

Cameron, speaking in his constituency, Witney, in Oxfordshire – where he was pictured cuddling a lamb – said it cutting the top rate of tax was not “our policy, it’s not our plan”, but declined to rule it out.
http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... income-tax" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

"where he was out canvassing with his ...." - would seem reasonable
"where he was pictured with his wife Samantha" - at a pinch
"where he was pictured cuddling a lamb" - that has got to be taking the proverbial.

On that YouGov poll.

Unless it was a specific poll of 18-24 year olds with a sample size of at least 1000, ignore it. If it is an extract from a standard YouGov poll definitely ignore it. As I keep saying you can't analyse the cross breaks in opinion polls.

Aha, so it is real, but rather out of date. Which leads me to suspect it is a cobbled together aggregation of other polls.

I see Toady's doing his usual "let's only tell half the story" with his 'Balls wants to close down free schools' nonsense

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Toby Young ‏@toadmeister 15m15 minutes ago
@bitginger @DavidWooding @edballsmp Yes, he said it in his response to the budget. He said: “We are going to get rid of free schools."
Well, actually...
We will have sensible spending cuts in non-protected areas. We will cut winter fuel payments for the richest 5% of pensioners. We will cap child benefit at 1% for two years. The shadow Chief Secretary has been setting out in our zero-based review of every pound spent by Government cuts from rooting out waste and inefficiency in policing, in local government, in defence, and in schools. We are going to get rid of the police and crime commissioner elections. We are going to get rid of the free schools. We are going to stop the overpayment of housing benefit. We are going to deal with the issue of—[Interruption.] I meant new free schools. The shadow Chief Secretary has set out ways in which we can make those sensible cuts in non-protected areas.

We will also make fairer choices. We will reverse—[Interruption.] If the Chancellor wants to intervene, I will happily give way.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer (Mr George Osborne): No, carry on.

Ed Balls: I am sorry, but I thought the Chancellor was about to stand up and tell us whether he talked to Lord Green about tax avoidance. He knows very well that our policy is to not have any more new free schools, and our £230 million saving is based on that.
So not "closing down the existing ones" you utterly shameless liar.

I was asking a little while back where to get a Labour window poster, having completely forgotten I'd told a Labour campaigner I'd put one up when Todd Foreman came round to introduce himself last summer. A very dedicated volunteer just hand-posted a letter & posters from Todd Foreman this afternoon, much to my surprise. My husband has already put them up and they look good, too, very simple and eye-catching. None of my Libdem neighbours have their posters up yet, though. Can't imagine why! ;)

Ouch! That's harsh. I'd prefer they voted Labour because they have better policies, but I suppose at least it means they didn't think Ed was a plonker. Crosby will be worried, I think.

I may be wrong but I have the feeling that more of this government's failures are being aired on the telly other than Channel 4 News and the odd Dispatches programme. Yeah on the Beeb too. Despite this NickyB still keeps advising us of polls with a WMA, whatever that is, showing that Labour shall lose their lead, indeed hoping for a Tory victory. I cannot say that I am without concern as there does seem many more vote Tory than will admit to it, certainly around these parts. Would you agree, frightful_oik?

Regarding Joey Essex as some of you have mentioned. I perhaps overstated my feelings for his ignorance the other day but did remark that it may be a persona that he capitalises on. I still think him ignorant though, albeit he appears a likeable chap. Anyway not wishing to mock him I agree that should he encourage the youth to vote then he shall have achieved no mean feat.

As for Russel Brand, my eldest bought me Revolution for Christmas because he reckoned he sounds like me on his Trews podcasts. Not voice or turn of phrase you understand. Nevertheless although I like his humour, mockery and some of what he says I cannot abide his nonchalance regarding casting your vote and told my son so. Having begun to read the book, something that would ordinarily take a few hours I had to give up after the first two chapters. I found it all rather self-centric. Look who's talking!

I may pick it up again some time to see what he does say; surely he moves on.
I would close my eyes if I couldn't dream.

I've found them alright, PorFavor. Perhaps they vary from area to area. I got our two dogs from them, passed on now with the passing of years. They do appear to do good work concerning cruelty to animals by undeserving owners or accomodating animals when their owners become too frail or worse to look after them. I don't like the way that some creatures are put down when they cannot be accommodated, but then they have neither the facilities or the funds to be a sanctuary.

While I'm on such topic, we used to give monthly donations to WWF. My wife kept telling me that she got too upset reading their newsletters. I kept telling her not to read them then.

I find them very cynical. The advertise on the TV, that they'll look after your pet. They don't say anything about if it's old or if not suitable putting it down. And with the pet owner 'dying', the inference is to leave them something in your will.

My dad started getting distressing literature from animal charities. He was on a low fixed income and I discovered he was signing up for those 'small' monthly payments because it was so upsetting. I made him cut down to a couple and tear up any more of their mail that came.

I'm as daft as the next person over animals but a big chunk goes on publicity and directors wages, and I'm not prepared to pay for that.

My brother in law was a site agent and years ago was responsible for the new Guide dog for the blind headquarters.
He watched them order exotic trees from abroad for the grounds and hire a top chef for their canteen. He reckoned no expense was spared.

Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael has said the leaking of a memo which claimed Nicola Sturgoen would prefer David Cameron to be prime minister was "just one of those things".

Mr Carmichael confirmed the memo was written in the Scottish Office but denied it was embarrassing for him.

He said: "This is the middle of an election campaign, these things happen."

Yeah. I'm sure he'd feel exactly the same if someone leaked a private memo about Clegg. Not!

So McBride's suspicion about it coming from the LibDems looks as though it may have been right. Motive and opportunity - the basis of all crime...
