As hoped it's a beautiful evening here in Colne Valley, a bit chilly but gorgeous. Perfect voting weather!

The reports of high turn out if true have to be a good sign.

In the end apart from Jane winning here, all I really hope for is that Labour get one more seat and one more total vote than the Tories.

Though I wouldn't mind a sweeping win of course

I'm done for the day.

It turned suddenly cold and my feet and legs started cramping up, so I gave up at 8.30 No one had turned up to collect my slips and I was on the last page of the pad, so I came home. Trying to thaw out now.

More excitement. The Independent candidate who was once a Tory councilor, was challenged again because he was standing outside the polling station with a home made rosette with his name on it. Evidently he'd turned up this morning with a Conservative rosette on, even though he'd been deselected...
The Cons said it was against the rules to advertise yourself, so the poor returning officer had to sort out her rule book [she says they're always changing the rules] and this year the rule said he could have his name on his rosette.

I never knew it could get so exciting.

And for half an hour or so we had a queue which I've never seen before.
Up to 8:30, there were very few youngsters which was disappointing. Lots of couples and families. The oldies voted this morning.
So quite strong divisions in the age groups.

I over heard the Conservatives say they are expecting something like an 80% turn out for their vote in Bracknell.

Now I just have to get warmed up! It'll take ages. Where's the gin!

...we know how change happens.
How change has always happened.
Not because political leaders made it so.
But because people demanded it.
And people all across Britain are counting on you tomorrow.
And in the closing hours of this campaign, this is my message to the British people.
For five years this country has been run for the richest and most powerful.
Use your power for you, your family, and our NHS.
Use your vote.
Vote Labour...

I'm off for a nap for a while.

It was an early start, and a lot of exertion for me (being unused to it, it's knackering)

So see some of you later no doubt - g'night TGS, rest that big golden heart of yours.

Night night anyone who's not stopping for the long haul - and see you others later.

Apart from hoping Nick Clegg (Liberal Democrats) loses, also waiting to see how many people
will have voted for Steve Clegg (English Democrats) by mistake, not sure how likely this is but hoped it might confuses enough Tory tactical voters too make a diiference.:)

Crikey, impressive pictures of huge queues to vote over on the AS blog. One of my locals even reported a queue of a dozen or so waiting for the doors to open at 7am in our little town. Unheard of previously.

I can't decide whether to stay up after work, or grab a few hours and get up with the missus (and sprog1, who is getting caught up in the excitement. She's eleven, and already won a Devon Rotary public speaking prize...I have high hopes.../proud dad) around 3.30/4am.

I reckon I'll see what the exit polls say.

As someone pointed out earlier the exit polls may be dallied if there are queues.

Dunno who the pundits are, but the coverage is:

BBC
David Dimbleby presents comprehensive overnight coverage from around the country as the results of the General Election begin to come in. Fiona Bruce is in Sunderland, which is hoping to continue its record of being the first constituency to declare a result, while Jeremy Vine, Emily Maitlis and Sophie Raworth analyse events as they happen. Andrew Neil grills political heavyweights in the BBC Election Centre, Laura Kuenssberg follows how the night is unfolding on social media, and Nick Robinson assesses the impact the result will have in the days, weeks and months ahead.

ITV
ITV News Political Editor Tom Bradby presents live through-the-night coverage of the most unpredictable battle for Number 10 in decades, joined by a panel including two of the nation's foremost political analysts - Colin Rallings and Jane Green. Having hosted the seven-way leaders' debate last month, Julie Etchingham returns to examine the key facts in the studio with the latest graphics technology, while commentators share their interpretation of the results as they happen. Social media also plays a part as experts monitor how the General Election is being talked about online, and a team of more than 120 regional correspondents reports from key constituencies as the votes are counted.

Channel 4
Jeremy Paxman questions leading politicians as early results start coming in, Richard Osman dissects a unique opinion poll to find out more about the British electorate, and Roisin Conaty, Romesh Ranganathan and Aisling Bea give their take on the campaign and the world of politics. There's also more from the Gogglebox families and The Last Leg boys, as well as contributions from David Mitchell.

33 users and 64 guests this evening. I make it about 6 minutes to go before the polls close.

I can hardly bear the suspense. Please God, don't let my fellow countrymen and women take leave of their collective senses. I don't pray but if I did, this would be the time for it.

If that's right the pollsters really need to take a good hard look at their methodology because they've got it totally wrong.

If that is right then I am glad I don't live in the UK any more and also despair at my fellow Brits (apart from those on here of course)

I am afraid to say that anyone who voted for these incompetents is a disgrace, a fucktard and deserves anything that comes to them

Can't see the poll being that wrong based on previous experience
