Re: Thursday 7th May
Swindon North had a tory majority of 7000 last time, hardly an 'important marginal' in a neck and neck election.
Re: Thursday 7th May
Swindon North
Con hold with a 22.6% majority, 64% turnout
candidates votes %
Justin Tomlinson 26,295 50.3% Cons
Mark Dempsey 14,509 27.8% Labour
James Faulkner 8,011 15.3% Ukip
Poppy Hebden-Leeder 1,723 3.3% Green
Janet Ellard 1,704 3.3% Lib Dem
Re: Thursday 7th May
It required a 7% swing so was never really likely to go Labour based on any polling I've seen in last year.mikems wrote:Swindon North had a tory majority of 7000 last time, hardly an 'important marginal' in a neck and neck election.

Indeed - it is South that is more marginal and elec calculus still had it as Tory....numbers from Swindon North may indicated where the votes are going though

I'm watching ITV...Much more how BBC used to report on the elections. A massive drop in viewing figures might be the only thing to make them pull their socks up...Spacedone wrote:Look at the BBC at the moment, everyone laughing and smiling after that Tory hold.

Re: Thursday 7th May
I'm taking some crumbs of comfort from the increasing numbers of signals that Nigel Farage is well and truly fucked in South Thanet.
The truth ferret speaks!
Re: Thursday 7th May
Every time I try to post I get kicked so short and sweet (tinfoil hat time) I feel manipulated by the polls so they appear to make no sense - is this just so all the headlines are about Tory poll victory as opposed to what the votes actually might be? Or am I clutching?

Indeed.
It is so bad that it makes a Con majority a remote possibility.
Forget it people. Tonight is over.

Ok I've changed my mind about staying up. I've got to get up for work in 5 hours and I don't feel like being depressed and exhausted at the same time. Hopefully things won't go the way they seem to be going but if I have to wake up to another 5 years of these c***s I'm going to need to be rested.
Re: Thursday 7th May
It'd certainly be a result that could be accurately described as a tragedy.WelshIan wrote:And the rest of us suffer along too while they learn.Spacedone wrote:Looks like they're going to have to learn the very hard way.WelshIan wrote: Not just nationalism, the right wing media have made sure people are not informed about how bad this government is, and has suppressed any alternative view.

Re: Thursday 7th May
So, in summary
Nats taken Scotland
Lib Dems completely dead as a party
Tories in ascendency and with a mandate to destroy our country
Labour cannot naval gaze.....this will be a weak Government governed by hubris - we have to come out fighting and hopefully the referendum on Europe will destroy them from the inside

Re: Thursday 7th May
Oh god this is horrible.
It looks like the LibDems have totally collapsed and their vote has scattered to the wind. I'm baffled as to why anyone who voted LibDem last time would cross to the Tories now, but looking at the Tooting result that seems to be what has happened. Add UKIP eating into the Labour vote and the rise and rise of the SNP and its like a perfect storm sending us straight to hell.
