On the DT front page for tomorrow.

David Cameron in split with Theresa May and Michael Gove over human rights

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politic ... ights.html

* Not quite sure how Farage gets into the story...look at the link!
David Cameron has ruled out withdrawing from the European Convention on Human Rights despite objections from Michael Gove, the Justice Secretary, and Theresa May, the Home Secretary.

In the first major cabinet split since the election, Mr Gove and Mrs May believe that pulling out of the convention entirely may be the "only solution" to re-establishing the supremacy of British courts over Strasbourg judges.

Excellent - Labour should be able to exploit this mess that they've managed to get into and one entirely of their own making.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

It's not just RT carrying the story, the express has it too.

And just for good measure here's the telegraphs take on it.

As of 11am, here's how many votes on average it took to elect an MP:

SNP 26k
CON 34k
LAB 40k
LD 291k
GRN 1.1m
UKIP 3.8m
#GE2015
Labour did okay given the circumstances.
That 3.8 million worry me. It's the juxtaposition with the greens, I think. But it would have worried me anyway.
It worries me too.

I think it was tc who made a comment earlier today along the lines of there's no need for others to bash Labour because we do such a good job of it ourselves.

Well this article - and yes, it is Wow!!!! - made me consider which is preferable the party that can and does criticise itself even if that means disunity and dissent more often than we would like - or the party where no open dissent is permitted and you are either in or out, us or them. I know which I prefer.

Am I the only one who thinks that it is the task of Labour to define itself against the Tories rather than against our own policies?

I recognise exactly what is described in this article, having had the temerity to challenge this wisdom of allying a great disability pressure group with constant anti-Labour vilification. I did this in the politest way I could pointing out how the groups posts didn't just go out to Scots, but to the whole of the UK. For my concerns, which were valid I was banned. If it had been once or twice that this occurred I probably wouldn't have bothered, but 2 years nearly of incessant hatred of Labour got to me. I'm not sure how great the reach of this is, but at least a couple of tens of thousands.

It hasn't surprised me one bit that the SNP is behaving provocatively in parliament and outside Scotland, they are on a mission to destroy Labour, and though I did, by dint of being vocal in my criticism of orthodoxy, manage to secure a slight lull the same stuff has now reappeared, this time attached to all leadership articles. If this is democracy or socialist thinking I give up. It gives me the horrors to think they want to take the north of England with them. I'm not so generous as the writer, I see both leaders using this tendency to destroy anything that stands in their way. Silencing your opposition support through intimidation and aggression doesn't seem to be a good representation of social justice and equality to me.

Very well written (with dark humour) piece from Deborah Orr on the Right-to-Buy, entitled, Housing policy is a disaster – so let’s make it worse:
I’d like to believe the government’s rhetoric – that this is a policy aimed at improving the lives of deserving individuals who can currently only dream of owner-occupation. The difficulty is that those people live in private rented accommodation, and can currently only dream of council or housing association occupation. The government’s plans only make those ideas even more distant. If anyone needs the right to buy, it’s people who are renting privately.

Thanks, all, for the excellent links and often deep-thought-provoking comments over the weekend! Sending love to all and continuing to seek :zen:
