I see Liz is in a bit of trouble in the media this morning. The fundamental truth of the royal family is they would love a modern day Nazi party. Ardent royalists who keep the plebs under control, perfect.

Good morning to all

Firstly, would like to send best wishes to those who have had health and other issues within the family and many hopes for positive outcomes

Also, well done to Temulkar for his novel - looks really interesting and I am looking forward to reading it

Just to comment on the Brenda story in the Sun - the fact that a child was acting at the behest of her elders is not a big story in itself except when we talk about hereditary institutions

It has been pretty clear to me for a while that there have been extreme right-wing views in the Royal Family that have been hidden away from us - we only see what we are allowed to see - and actually we are more deferent to them than we were in the earlier parts of the last century where the Royal Family was pretty much held in contempt by a good number of people. My own grandparents included - working class socialists from Liverpool! I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg

It is the same problem we have seen in recent years - the Establishment covering up, hiding and apologising for each other - made worse by the current bunch of incompetents in Government

Whilst on that subject - the hatred I feel for this Government and Cameron/Osborne in particular grows ever stronger each day.......and the deep despair of the ignorance and lack of moral compass of a good number of the British people as well

It seems we are truly only out for ourselves and I feel nauseous when I saw mawkishness and crocodile tears whenever there is some sort of charity event etc.

If you care about these type of people - why vote fucking Conservative or sit on your hands you numpties!!!!

Edited to remove and excessive use of the word 'allowed'

Thought you meant Kendall of that ilk for a minute - I've got the Labour leadership on the brain :D

As for our beloved first family, I thought Edward VIII being pretty much openly pro-Nazi was common knowledge?

I can't help wonder what the motive behind the Sun's story is, it being Murdoch's views in print or so it's said. Perhaps we don't know of Prince Philip being rude about him so he swipes bacvk at the family. If he were a federal anti-royalist surely he'd attack younger family members, maybe he refuses to acknowledge Liz and his own mortality. Anyway it's hardly news about Edward VIII, so what if a child did a Nazi salute?

I remember doing the like in post-war childhood games, even executing captives or scalping cowboy opponents for that matter. Despite the nine o' clock watershed I wouldn't rule out kiddies play acting ISIS or Saudi Arabian style executions today. Should they ever get caught doing so at school let's hope they're not Moslem. Who knows what Tory ministers may think?

I'm somewhat confused as to the fuss. She was 7 at the time. Also, weren't the Nazi viewed as generally "not a bad thing" around that time? (fully prepared to be corrected on this)

Yes, around that time a lot of people here just saw Hitler as a "strong leader" who was restoring Germany's hurt national pride.

(tied in with this was the widespread feeling they had been badly treated by the Versailles Treaty because of the, albeit understandable, French lust for vengeance)

And these feelings weren't just confined to the political right (eg Lloyd George)

As for K R Murdoch, the fact he hates the royals is arguably his one redeeming feature.

As you, and others, have said - the child was 7 at the time. I shudder to think of things that I said\wrote\did at the behest of my mother when I was that age and even a little older.

The wider implications for the adored, adult Royals (now and then) are more relevant.

Edited to insert the word "adult".

Not sure if anyone's linked to this site before - found it through Twitter yesterday - so apologies if it's been seen and is known...it's quite a long piece (as they all seem to be) but by f***ety b******s, they make a lot of sense....and it does clarify the current 'extreme' nature of our 'establishment' (politics/media)...

Is British Disability Welfare Reform, Simply a Display of 'Hate'?

'Hate crime' may therefore not always need to be physical, face to face or committed towards specific individuals in order for us to regard it as 'hate crime', particularly if psychological violence is involved. If whole sections of Britain's disabled are also being wildly categorised as potentially lazy, shiftless and immoral, and chiefly in order to manipulate public opinion. Our politicians, government and popular media may be employing a form of psychological violence that is actually on a par with 'hate crime' as we more commonly define it. Psychological violence that has certainly been argued to have induced anxiety and depression in some of our disabled, driving many to commit suicide.

Just been checking out the electoral commission report into the 2015 election.
http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/f ... eferendums" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I was interested in comparing postal votes to 2010.

7.6m postal votes were issues compared to 7m in 2010. Returned votes puts postal votes turnout for 2015 at 86%, a rise from 83% in 2010.

If postal votes are insecure, clearly a rise in their use makes the potential for fraud greater. Nevertheless, it doesn't really explain why people said they would vote Labour and then seemingly didn't. If fraud did take place, I'm not sure it could explain Labour's underwhelming performance in local elections across the past 5 years. I think we just have to accept that Labour supporters don't vote and try to tackle that.

The following article by Ipsos-Mori underlines how Labour was successful with its target voters but its target voters don't turn out in the same numbers as the wealthy and elderly who benefit from divisive Tory policies.

https://www.ipsos-mori.com/researchpubl ... ?view=wide" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm wondering if ditching the care cap may have been a significant strategic mistake from the Tories. Labour have an opportunity, by embracing it, to regain some ground with the over-65s.

I used to think (anti-monarchist though I am) that, since we're almost certainly going to have a head of state, I'd retain the monarch, spouse, and an heir and a spare. Copy some of the European models. Two child policy - as for the rest of us - and no other family members on the (considerably reduced) pay-roll. However, given the mindset of a lot of the British, we'd probably end up in a "Mary, Queen of Scots must go" situation. Although I do draw the line at executing them - so what to do?

I don't understand the sensationalised stories about QElizabeth2 at this time; I thought it was common knowledge ties of diplomacy & all that necessitated some outward show of show toward Germany's unfortunate pick. It was also my understanding Prince Edward was rather fond or something like it of Germany's leader. I love history. I'm an amateur. The time leading up to WW2 isn't my favourite time period so my knowledge of that time isn't extensive. I wanted to add my voice to the question here - why is this being picked up now? It's not new.

Flipping through Tony Blair's family history, I'm staggered by the extraordinary biography of Leo Blair, Tony's father. Leo's other son, William, is an exceptional person too.

Doing some cursory research on David Cameron, I encountered the following:
Perhaps the most admirable characteristic of this father of three is that he refrained from making political capital out of his most painful personal experience.

Page after website page of write-ups of former PMs & other illustrious scoundrels & steadfasts - checking sources & tracking confirmation is essential if I want to know what really happened & even then, maybe.

Mmm, to follow or not to follow your link, гражданка? He may have made PM but not the most interesting of chaps, although I sometimes seek info on him if only to take the piss. Does it mention his being approached by two well-dressed men on the beach? I think they were well dressed or is that in my mind's eye. Whatever I'd hate you deem I thought him handsome, I only added that to bolster the pretty boy image. Oh go on then, I'm always up for a laugh.

Yes - that's why I thought they must have been referring to the other PM named David Cameron. There must have been one to make that quote anything other than sarcasm.

HS2 tunnel could damage water supply
Current plans for the HS2's Chiltern tunnel could damage water supply in Buckinghamshire if given the go ahead, the High-Speed Rail Commons Select Committee has heard. Giving evidence to the committee, geologist Dr Haydon Bailey told the committee that a major regional water supply could be damaged by drilling just one hole.

Yes, it was referring to David Cameron, current Tory PM & his son, Ivan.
The link is pretty mainstream information, it's not some nut website, at least, I never thought so until now.

Plaid pays for a 'positivity guru' as an image consultant... but asks for donations to fund election organisers

Well you could say that's sensible as their supporters are far more likely to fund election organisers which are pretty essential, eh? You could say that ...

Think CIF, anti-NHS.
They're struggling to keep up with all the trolling needed to counter the very powerful message being put across by the ImInWorkJeremy hashtag today.

Funny how our right wing media hasn't ridiculed Kendall for failing to secure the support of her own constituency #Labourleadership

Not sure - it was originally reported that her seat had nominated Cooper, but it is suggested now it was a mix up and one of the other Leicester seats did :?

Don't put it through a tunnel then. Let it run overground. Money saved, everyone's a winner.

Yes it was.

And he's namechecked me too. Bless. Quite sad that he gets virtually no re-tweets - his rants fall on stony ground...

And now repeated the line about Mid Staffs for which he got thoroughly bitchslapped by Gabriel Scally a while back. This kinda thing is quite important...

Have you ever been to the Chilterns Tubby? I took my driving test there. When I did the hill start it was about the 20th I'd done that day. Railways like flat places. Or tunnels and viaducts. :D

It's been noted that it's Education questions in the Commons on Monday.

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/p ... 150720.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

9 Rishi Sunak (Richmond (Yorks))
What progress her Department is making on providing fairer funding for schools. (901094)

12 Mr Laurence Robertson (Tewkesbury)
What progress she has made on the introduction of a national funding formula for schools. (901097)

13 Paul Maynard (Blackpool North and Cleveleys)
What progress her Department is making on providing fairer funding for schools. (901098)

17 Victoria Prentis (Banbury)
What progress her Department is making on providing fairer funding for schools. (901102)

Something tells me that fairer funding is a hot topic...and by coincidence, there's a HoC library note about it too.

http://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ ... ry/SN06702" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Wonder what prompts them to do these - do they just have a look around and see what's currently being discussed e.g. there was one on Inheritance Tax just before the emergency budget.

Wonder how many of those Tory constituencies have deeply uneconomic small village primaries in them. Can't be too bad the funding if they can afford to fund them.

Funnily enough these are one part of the public estate they don't want to sell off.

There was a skit on some Radio 4 show yesterday about the Bennite, Blairite, Brownite, Thatcherite, iteism that seems to be 'de rigeur' (one for you PF) nowadays. That is you can't be a serious senior politician - and certainly not prime ministerial - without having an 'ite' attached.

They tried out the current Labour leadership candidates

Kendallite - was a diet sweet - less sugary Kendal mint cake
Corbynite - a building material
Cooperite - I can't remember - can anyone else?
Burnhamite - can't remember that one either ...

But my point is ... can anyone imagine what 'Cameronite' might come to represent? I think it will be something so slippery and slimey - without any fixed points or commitments - the pinnacle of U turnism.

Interesting bit of Gove yesterday.

Considering making education progress a condition for leaving jail. It, er, already is. The Parole Board look at progress made across the board including on courses designed to reduce reoffending.

I guess he wants to take it further than that and have his proxy sat there telling prisoners "Sorry, you got 45 out of 100. Pass mark was 50. Another 6 months for you".

I do like a good House of Commons Briefing Paper well footnoted.
If all that can be done is to document the disaster, I'm glad someone is doing it.
