<sigh> Hoped the knives might be put away for a few days at least.

No one (hopefully) wants to gag Kevan Jones, he should be free to put across constructive views or concerns about such important issues, but using words like 'his incompetence' about Corbyn just inflames things and helps Labour's enemies.

If he is correct then there is indeed a problem, but going about it the way he has seems to be provocative rather than helpful.

As Tubby pointed out yesterday Corbyn is planning to attend a Stop The War fundraiser as guest of honour. Roughly 100 of his MPs give or take will be furious about that. Any credit banked from Oldham has been immediately thrown away.

So there is clearly something fundamentally wrong about Corbyn's political thought process. Nothing he has done in the last week has looked in any way smart. One assumes the people who work with him are getting driven slowly nuts, probably not ideal to complain about it to the press.

So, those 100 MPs and their followers should cause a stink about it and whine to the press ?

We saw last week how many were happy to pass on the inaccuracy about Stella.

Again, you see everything through your way of seeing 'smart', 'intelligent'.

Time to bring out that Independent article by the psychiatrist who observed that anti-Corbyn people exhibited as much unreason as they claimed their opponents did, just a different type ?

That was written on the 3rd, yahyah, and is manifestly untrue compared to the Lybia vote or Afganistan in 2006. Instead of action being waved through, the 70k lie was exposed, and the govt forced to defend its waar. Corbyn is now in a perfect position to damn cameron with every failure. A point even the daily mail conceded yesterday,

Kevan Jones just loves to smear and brief, then cries foul when he is called out over it - askk joanna lumley and the gurkhas

Surge in companies set up to dodge Osborne's tax rise on buy-to-lets after Chancellor's raid on second homes and rental properties
Landlords may try to establish companies to avoid new tax demands
George Osborne is doubling the amount of tax on £250,000 second homes
It is estimated his tax grab will earn the treasury £4 billion extra a year
Many landlords are considering selling their portfolios to avoid the tax

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... rties.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Of course there is. This is yet another of Osborne's measures that will probably end up hitting the smallest, least profit making of landlords - those with just the one rental property or so.

Kevan Jones is swiftly inheriting the mantle of useful idiot Tom Watson wore under Miliband. Any remaining sympathy I have for him following the spat with Livingstone has now gone, as I question his motives even on that one.

PETER OBORNE: There was one winner in the Syria vote. And it wasn't Dave or Hilary Benn
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/artic ... -Benn.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
... But I believe that only one politician deserves to emerge with an enhanced reputation as a result of the week’s events. That figure is Jeremy Corbyn.
Whether or not you like Mr Corbyn (and I profoundly disagree with many of his policies), there is no denying that he emerged from the arguments over Syria as a man of moral courage, integrity and principle.
Indeed, how interesting that after months of denigrating Corbyn, the Blairite tendency — together with those excitable inhabitants of the Westminster bubble — have been made to look silly in their prediction that Labour would lose the Oldham by-election.
In the real world, it seems the voters have more time for the Labour leader than the metropolitan commentariat.
Faced with bitter hostility from his own side on Wednesday, Mr Corbyn stood his ground. Courteously, he set out his honest doubts about the wisdom of bombing raids on Syria.

To put his achievement another way, Mr Corbyn performed the role which every leader of the Opposition is expected to perform, according to British constitutional textbooks: he held the Government to account...

... At last we have an Opposition leader who does his job by opposing the government and asking the right questions. Throughout the debate, Jeremy Corbyn was calm, resolute and precise — a performance that was especially creditable given that he was subject to vilification from his own Labour MPs.
One of the most disloyal of these was Hilary Benn, whose speech on Wednesday night was not nearly as impressive as reported. Mr Benn showed no comprehension of the complexities of the Syrian civil war.
He offered no ideas of his own to contribute to a successful outcome. He is a political mediocrity who has become a convenient stalking horse for the Blairite faction which has been determined to destroy Jeremy Corbyn since he was elected.
There is growing evidence that the British people have seen through all the politicians cynically trying to exploit the war for their own ends. Polls now suggest that opposition is growing to David Cameron’s decision to attack Syria.
Indeed, the Prime Minister’s case for war is already in disarray. In particular, his claim that there are 70,000 ‘moderate’ Syrian ground troops ready to fight ISIS is now in shreds.
Mr Cameron has personally insulted millions of British people (including many Daily Mail readers) who have doubts about the bombing by implying that they are supporters of terrorism...
His piece is not an unequivocal eulogy for Corbyn btw - he fully acknowledges that he doesn't agree with Corbyn on a lot of things and that Corbyn has certainly made mistakes as leader. But thought it worth linking to this and showing these quotes as it's Oborne - and it's in the Daily Mail - and I am increasingly finding it very strange that such views are coming from the unlikeliest of places.

All these artivles about intimidation and so on seem to me to be more than a little hypocritical in light of the overt bullying by the media and within parliament that has been happening on a near daily basis for years. Do they think we don't notice, or there are certain levels of privilege that allow people to be exempt from being called out for their bad behaviour?

STW are an embarrassment - just yesterday some dick there praised the "internationalism and solidarity" of ISIS

But I find it hard to get too exercised over Corbyn attending a dinner, tbh. He clearly no longer has an active role in either them or CND.

(indeed, in the latter he has explicitly moved from an active to a honorary position)

Talking of bullies, Cameron once had a terrible reputation for being one, the Flashman nickname isn't heard much nowadays thanks to a compliant media.

Born with a silver spoon, the brat having everything in his life handed to him. He gobs off without a second thought, doesn't like it back though.

My first reaction to your comment, yahyah, was that you were being far too nice to Kevan Jones. It certainly would have been nice to have been able to enjoy a good turnout and result at Oldham for at least a couple of days before the grumbling resumed!

It strikes me that this is more of the "office politics" I referred to the other day. I do think there probably is a genuine problem for MPs in serving a leader with so little relevant experience for the role and I fear there will be more of this. I agree, however, that there's no need to blab to the press about it. It needs acknowledging and addressing within the party, but I don't see why the rest of us need to hear about it. Policy and presentation can cost votes, but I suspect how well a leader is running their office isn't really of much interest to most people - there's no need to voluntarily draw attention to these sorts of problems imo. And it can only get better, I would have thought. I don't think anyone ever gets any worse at these sorts of things with experience.

But I find it hard to get too exercised over Corbyn attending a dinner, tbh. He clearly no longer has an active role in either them or CND.

(indeed, in the latter he has explicitly moved from an active to a honorary position)

Doubt he needs the cash TL (he is reputed to be worth about $300 m), he is probably just bored. Had the 'pleasure' of meeting him once (a signing session for the Thomas The Tank Engine books) ......ennui is, I believe, the word that best described his attitude.

Thank you for saying that Willow, it shows that my attempts to be less abrasive may be working *
My first version, before editing was a lot more cross sounding about Jones.

I am trying to moderate my feelings.

Often end up having to take a more pro-Corbyn stance than I would like, just to counter some of the knee jerk **** that is being thrown at him. But that just ends up feeding the them/us scenario.

*maybe this is a case where I shouldn't have bothered

@Toby

Just told my husband about your post about Ringo's drums.
As a drummer with Septimus the Spider ...who I hear you all cry...a Halifax soul band in the sixties, he has an interest in all things percussion and the Beatles.

He pointed out to me that Ringo would not have made anything as much as the others because of lack of songwriting royalties, which may explain his current dash for cash.

(Though the sub-editor needs a good talking to)

What are shadow cabinet members doing texting journos from inside meetings? It seems that at least one is using the 'honour' to do a Jim Murphy and share divisive anti-leadership stories with the press. It was an appalling way to behave under Ed Miliband and it remains so. I can actually see why there are calls from some quarters to deselect some of the current PLP, if this is what they use their privileges as elected members and shadow ministers to do.

Corbyn's in a difficult position, anything he does will be presented as evidence of his Stalinism.

But there surely is a case for insisting mobile phones, ipads etc are kept out of the way during meetings.

How can trust be fostered, and full attention given, if someone's texting or tweeting ?
