Purge? Corbyn’s Momentum group to exclude socialists
Content of article doesn't quite live up to headline though.

https://www.rt.com/uk/325090-momentum-purge-far-left/
Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn’s Momentum group and senior MPs are trying to block the influence of leftist groups, such as the Socialist Party of England & Wales, citing fears of entryist hijacking.
A central part of the effort will involve drawing up of a new code of conduct that will block socialists and communists from being elected to leadership roles and attending debates.
The move is partially driven by fears that leftist organizations could discredit the movement, which was set up to continue the spirit and energy developed during Corbyn’s leadership election campaign.
Many grassroots activists and far-left groups have called for the deselection of unpopular Labour MPs, including those who voted for bombing Syria last Wednesday.

I view RT and Al-Jazeera more often than Sky News or BBC 24. They aren't perfect, and they do have obvious bias in some subjects, but they are a damn sight better than our homegrown news sources these days.

I was going to say that too. Whenever there's a 'tell it like it really is' article, it's frequently on Huffington.

Yep, they're good at putting forward some stuff which is skipped over by msm,

& makes good comparing with other sources.

Just thought the headline slightly mischievous.

"A 22-year-old woman with relapsed acute myeloid leukaemia died after being denied a second allogeneic stem cell transplant. Her doctor said her late relapse and good response to salvage chemotherapy meant there was a 50% chance that a further transplant would have cured the disease. However, the local GP-led clinical commissioning group refused to fund the procedure, which would have used healthy stem cells to try to help her bone marrow, and she received palliative care instead."

Tory MP defends faking death threat over Syria air strikes vote

A Tory MP has admitted faking her own death threat in a Facebook post designed to expose the "unacceptable" abuse she received after voting in favour of air strikes in Syria.

Lucy Allan, MP for Telford, posted an email she had received from a disgruntled constituent complaining about her decision but added the words “unless you die” at the bottom of the post.

She defended it by saying her addition had been a threat sent in by another constituent on the same day and justified her decision to post it because it showed examples of the abuse that MPs receive “most days and that most people tolerate silently”.

This latest Sun event is worse than I thought ...
Sun apologises over misleading ‘Six days to terror’ story
Paper says it was ‘misled’ by investigator who claimed to have travelled from Turkey to Paris without a passport, as ITV News also takes down article on him

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2015/d ... rror-story" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
... But Sun insiders said that, after the Croatian authorities denied the account, with scans of his passport to prove it, Ghessen confessed that he had in fact flown from Croatia to Paris in order to deal with a “domestic trauma” possibly involving his children.

Instead of telling his paymasters the truth about the journey ahead of publication, the Sun said Ghessen simply made up the account of taking “a series of trains up to Paris, dodging the guards on the way” and hiding in unlocked toilets.

Senior Sun executives are said to be furious at being caught by what one called “disgraceful” behaviour. One also admitted it was “not a particularly glorious episode” for the Sun...
and look who got himself in on the act ... and now doesn't want to be associated with it ...
... The newspaper spread, which included reaction from Labour MP Simon Danczuk, prompted concerns about security in Europe following the Paris attacks. Danczuk has not returned calls seeking comment following the Sun apology...

MPs vote to reject giving 16 and 17-year-olds the vote in the EU referendum

MPs have voted to reject giving 16 and 17-year-olds a vote in the EU referendum by 303 votes to 253 - a majority of 50.

The amendment passed by the House of Lords saying there should be votes at 16 in that referendum has now been designed by the Commons Speaker as a matter engaging financial privilege (because of its additional cost) and that means that the Lords cannot just vote to put the amendment back in when the bill returns to their end of the building.

But peers can table a fresh amendment to the bill, designed to achieve the same goal in a different ways. Labour peers are considering this option, and so the conflict between the two Houses is not over yet. (Politics Live, Guardian)

I also think Goldsmith is going to have to be very careful in how he attacks Khan given the current anti Muslim rhetoric. To be linked to that - in any way - is not a good look for a London mayoral candidate (it's not a good look anywhere).

I hadn't seen the Dave Hill article in the G when I posted my comment about Goldsmith's attack on Khan. Seems Hill is warning about this too ...
London mayor: Zac Goldsmith must be careful with his negative campaign
The Tory candidate’s team deny exploiting anxieties about Muslims to win City Hall but that could be one effect of personal attacks on Labour rival Sadiq Khan

http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/dave ... e-campaign" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
An official Tory website called SadiqWatch, launched on Monday, asks the question: “Who is Sadiq Khan?” This draws attention to Khan’s recent change of position over increasing London’s airport capacity – he’s switched from wanting expansion at Heathrow to enlarging Gatwick – the support he received from unions during Labour’s mayoral candidate selection campaign and his nomination of Jeremy Corbyn to be a runner in the party’s leadership contest.

The site sharply escalates the Goldsmith campaign’s attempts to detrimentally associate Khan with Corbyn, despite Khan’s not voting for him in the Labour leadership ballot. Its masthead proclaims that it is “holding Corbyn’s candidate to account.” Meanwhile, Goldsmith campaign literature being distributed by Tory activists has described Khan’s politics as a “divisive and radical”.

This last accusation has angered Khan’s team, with one member of it telling the Evening Standard it could be read as “code for Muslim” and a “coded racist attack”. Adam Bienkov of Politics.co.uk reported that a SadiqWatch video posted on the Conservatives’ Facebook page attracted a number of unpleasant comments.

At the time of writing, those comments have not been removed. One describes Khan as “a dishonest Muslim” and a “cheap crook” and one complains that “the native population is being diluted on a horrendous scale.” Another declares: “If Khan/Corbyn get in you can expect another 50 mosques in London, more extremists, no thank you there’s too many already. Vote in the Tory candidate.”

Turning Schools Around
The Educators

Schools in England have been warned that if they coast, rather than improve, they risk being closed down.

Sarah Montague meets the new head teachers of a Birmingham secondary school involved in the so-called Trojan Horse scandal. Golden Hillock School re-opened in September with new leadership, and became Ark Boulton Academy , where some of the students have seen four different head teachers in four years.

Now, principals David Gould and Herminder Channa plan to take the school out of special measures and introduce higher expectations for students, staff and parents.

Their promise to students is that they will learn everything they need to go on to university or a career of their choice, but it will require focus, discipline and hard work from students, staff and parents.

Presenter: Sarah Montague
Producer: Joel Moors.

Is this unusual? I don't follow the business liveblog very often, so I don't know if these kind of commodity crashes happen often:
Every share on the Dow Jones industrial average is in the red.

Oil giant Exxon is leading the fallers, down 3.1%, followed by major rival Chevron which has lost 2.9%.

Caterpillar is next, down 2.5%. It makes mining and construction machinery and vehicles, meaning it is very exposed to the ups and downs of the global economy.

Bracknell Urgent Care centre will undergo a focused inspection after the CQC found staff were 'fearful' of reporting incidents

PATIENTS at Bracknell's Urgent Care Centre are being put at risk due to staff shortages and delays issuing prescription medicines a health watchdog has warned.

The centre, based at Brants Bridge, does not have enough experienced staff to meet demand and ensure safe waiting times according to the Care Quality Commission (CQC), who conducted two unannounced inspections on August 17 and 24 this year after receiving tip-offs

One Medicare Ltd, who run the centre, has admitted they underestimated how many patients would go to them for treatment, with 10 per cent more cases than had been anticipated since it opened in April 2014.

Welsh government budget has been announced today.

First the good news - 4.1% more, £290million, for the Welsh NHS.
1.1% for education & skills.
The bad news, 2% cut for local government.

Wales has faced a 3.6% cut from UK government funding over five years, when inflation's taken into account.

I am filled with dread at the prospect of next year's council tax. So the 2% precept for social care - should a council choose to apply it - will just about compensate for the overall loss in grant. Nothing gained.

Astonishing article. As Mike Sivier says ... 'what are we to think about this'?

Gays are off the hook! UKIP candidate blames refugees for latest floods http://p.ink.cx/1SLq7og" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Unbelievable.

12 Syrian refugees are arriving soon, offered refuge by Ceredigion council.
A local independent councillor is demanding they are screened for terrorists after the Paris attacks.

The progressive parties supported a fund raising event last week to help welcome the refugees.

The 'independent' tag for local politicians is not a good one around here IMO.

Cumbrians have hilariously mocked Cameron’s photo-op tour of flooded towns

Well, a week or so makes a difference.
A few hours working in the garden today allowed time for thought.

My feelings about leaving Labour because of the malarkey of people like Danczuk would be defeatist. Instead of being negative I have put January 15th in my diary, the day of hustings & the vote for Ceredigion's Assembly candidate fortunately being held only 15 minutes drive away from where we live.

It'll be a chance to experience the cut and thrust of debate (hopefully), get to meet some of the new members and start actually getting involved rather than just donating. Taking the responsibility of voting means having a stake in things too.

The new CLP membership secretary has sent out a really welcoming and encouraging message which makes the whole thing seem more accessible for the less than experienced supporter.

I'm still reeling from what he said yesterday -
[David Cameron said] The emergency services have been brilliant. But that is no consolation to people who face a very wet few days, and then perhaps not being home for Christmas. (Guardian - my bold)
Sorry for the re-post but it's been going round in my head all day. Of course, the press lap up his every utterance. This should have been ridiculed mercilessly.

In the video linked, Cameron, in full smarm mode in Carlisle talks of 'the defences we built'

We ?
Just done some checking and on an Environment Agency site it says the scheme was finished in 2010.

By we I presume Cameron means the last Labour government ?

He gets away with so much. In the video in OhSo's link he calls local people who've been affected 'these people' in an odd way.
