Saturday 12th December & Sunday 13th December 2015 -

Post by yahyah »

Morning. Chilly, winter finally arrives.

The Tory bullying/sleaze/allegations of criminal activity & sexual assault story continues:
Conservative bullying scandal: How the 'Tatler Tory' Mark Clarke tried to take over the City of London

Clarke and the current secretary of Ukip led an attempt to propel right-wing candidates into the City of London Corporation

.....They accuse members of the team, whom they say ran the campaign from YBF’s London headquarters, of using underhand tactics in targeting rivals as well as other candidates who refused to support them...

The Independent can also reveal that the City of London Police separately investigated an allegation against Richardson of harassment a month before the election and, on the eve of the vote, an allegation of common assault and threatening behaviour against Mark Clarke after an encounter he had with another candidate.

Good morning to all

First weekend at home after two consecutive ones in Derby - I only go to the East Midlands as it is one of the few places a West Midlander can take on a sense of cultural superiority although it does entail getting used to being called 'duck' a lot!

Looking at all this about these right wing groups - does anyone really believe the threat of extremism and 'entryism' is coming from the left. The country, and not just ours, is more likely to take a step to the nationalistic right (look at the elections in France and the growth of the far right in Europe in general).

There is a tentative rise in left-wing populism as well (Greece, Spain, and perhaps a stirring here as well) but the criticisms are around the economic side and their challenges to the direction being taken on security

The real risks are for us galloping further and further to the right. Austerity, inequality of wealth, creation of an underclass of cheap labour, worker's rights being thrown out, a security state, politicisation of the military and the judiciary etc

We have also seen more and more of the Establishment taking political sides...military men being able to speak out about specific parties, a judge yesterday. Nothing too bad at the moment but there is starting to be a worrying tendency

Instead of looking for 'reds under the bed' which don't really exist perhaps we should turn our attention to the worry trend in fascistic tolerance (and I use that term tentatively being aware of Godwin's Rule)

The power and money is not behind any old-trotskyist sympathisers still fighting the battles of the Cold War. It is the slick right wingers, independently wealthy who are entering the media and other areas of the establishment and spreading their poison around so it becomes 'mainstream' and 'acceptable' - in fact we could use the word 'moderate'

The Guardian are running a report of the recent radio broadcasted confession, by a then young army conscript, of participation in the murder of eighteen socialist opponents of Pinochet in Chile.
The man has been arrested in Chile.

In the House of Commons we have at least one Tory MP who is a great fan of Pinochet, as was Thatcher. Andrew Rosindell told the press in 2012 he had 'huge admiration' for Pinochet and what he did and would happily join a fan club for the murderous general.

So today, where will the media be ?
Not at the doors of Rosindell & his Tory 'freedom' supporting pals asking for comment, that's for sure. Too busy hounding Corbyn for his dinner out, and trying to pin idiotic online death threats on his supporters to care about actual real life murders.

He did very well on Newsnight where he said that. He was on to talk about the climate change negotiations and deal in Paris and of course Kirsty Wark insisted on asking him about Corbyn going to the STW dinner. He was polite but clearly not going to be drawn into the media's stirring.
Working on the wild side.

Dead chuffed to read your post AH. :D
Although from the deep SE, ducky, and my ducky were used daily. And when we took the huge step of moving 15 miles away I never heard it again.

I had a phone call from a friend who lived in my street when we were small. She lives 'up North' now. She called me my duck, and I nearly cried.

Amazing to miss an endearment so much....

Just fed Mr Ohso his first bit of green vegetable for ten days. Chopped a Romaine lettuce leaf to within an inch of its life. De-seeded and skinned a tomato ditto chopped, with a slice of ham made into a sandwich, with a dessertspoonful of cottage cheese on the side. Skinned, poached, pureed pear and custard later for his tea.

Then we stand back and wait to see what happens ...

I'm shocked, shocked etc...

Charity alleged to have illegally funded Brexit campaign groups

http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015 ... arch-trust
Allegations that a charity founded by the chief executive of Vote Leave, a group campaigning for Britain to leave the EU, has broken the law by funnelling donations to political groups campaigning for a British exit are being examined by the charity commission.

The Politics and Economics Research Trust (Pert) gave 97% of its grants last year to groups who favour Brexit, according to a letter of complaint sent by a senior Labour MP. Matthew Elliott, the chief executive of Vote Leave, who is also a former chief executive of the Taxpayers’ Alliance, founded Pert in 2004.

Charities are not legally allowed to exist for a political purpose. Of £532,000 the charity paid out in grants in 2014, £300,000 went to the Taxpayers’ Alliance and £205,000 to Business for Britain, both of which are Eurosceptic. £10,000 went to Global Britain, which has campaigned for Brexit. In 2013 the charity gave £415,000 to the Taxpayers’ Alliance and Business for Britain.

Interesting that their website doesn't quote an address...it's a little...basic.

Some inspired "scary Muslim meme" jokes doing the rounds on social media right now:

"am at Blockbusters and a Muslim drops his card, I pick it up and give it him - he thanks me and says 'by the way, don't go to watch Man City this Saturday'

'oh, why not??'

'its on Sunday'"

Another one - "'don't go to Glastonbury next year' 'um, why not?' 'Muse are playing'"

Still lots of rain here.

Am beginning to appreciate the intricacies of drainage and flow dynamics.
The land drain ditch we dug the other day to get water away from the house is now full of water as well as gravel.
Hadn't appreciated that water would seep in from other directions, despite trying to model the outcome and flow direction using a pint of water, a roasting tin and ceramic baking beads.

Likewise Anatoly.
I always see you as the voice of reason, but didn't take notice about Watson.
His campaign literature was strong, and a bruiser, with a lot of experience, to help counteract the Tories seemed a good thing.

Por Favor felt let down by her vote, Cooper, the other week and I felt sympathy with her for that.

All true enough, but the real point is that he never needed to do it.

His clueless "advisors" (mostly from our dead loss MSM) and "image makers" told him that he should. Just like they told him to hold up that copy of the Sun

Tbf to Watson he did admit he had been wrong to believe all the recent rumours about Stella Creasy, it took some cojones to do that.

But one of his flaws is that he is, at heart, a factionalist. He slags off Momentum because, basically, they are not the same faction as him.

(of course this is true of Corbyn to a degree too, and a reason I didn't vote for him - but as leader he is at least making attempts to reach out)

And re your last point, its not for nothing that J E Powell once said "all political careers end in failure" (and yes, he certainly had himself in mind when he said it) But they don't all *have* to end as ignominiously as Mr Tony's did......

Mind you I do get upset if called a Brummie.....I am a proud Wulfrunian (or Yam Yam if you prefer)

Unfortunately, I was brought up in the same constituency where that 'intellect bypass' Emma Reynolds is MP....previously Ken Purchase (a good local boy), and the old hunting ground of Renée Short (went Tory in 87)

By the way found out last week that my sister voted Tory. Real shock as whole family is red to the core...Trade Unionists and old Liverpool working class. Her reason was he was 'slimy'.....the only reason can be from how the media portrayed him as he is not at all...especially compared with Twunt....she doesn't support any Tory policies as far as I can tell and works in the NHS

Reality makes a mockery of all Chancellor Jeff's plans, all of them.
I'd love to laugh at it, his serial failures, but his failures hurt people
and country so it's not funny at all.

Huh.

Forget-me-nots from this spring that seeded, have grown and are not far off flowering, I have polyanthus in fresh bloom, roses, and Mexican Orange blossoming again, and still have a solitary yellow hollyhock in flower.

Having lived in Wolverhampton for 30 years, I can confirm I've hardly ever heard "duck" used here either.

I grew up on the Stoke-on-Trent side of the Staffordshire moorlands. "Duck" used to be very commonly used in Stoke and immediately around it, but go a few miles down the road and you'd never hear it. Until you got to the other end of the county where some of the older people round Wednesbury still used it in the 80s, though like lots of dialect expressions it seems to have died out. A pity really, once upon a time I'm told, you could place someone within a square mile of the Black Country just by how they spoke.

Stoke-on-Trent, it has to be said, has a different culture, dialect and even accent to the areas around it.

The worst butty pics were shots taken from slowed down video.
Anyone would look odd when that is done, let alone when trying to masticate two pieces of thick crusted bread.
All true enough, but the real point is that he never needed to do it.

His clueless "advisors" (mostly from our dead loss MSM) and "image makers" told him that he should. Just like they told him to hold up that copy of the Sun

Ed's successes almost always came when he was true to himself.
The morning Ed Miliband went to get flowers for his wife, he picked up some breakfast and unbeknownst to him, a journalist snapped a photo of him eating it.

Where's the outrage about right-wing #scab and #Tory toff @TristramHuntMP attending Henry Jackson Society functions?

I don't care about that any more than I care about Corbyn attending a StW function. People on both sides should find other things to be upset about.

I have never heard it in Wolves either but was called it at least a dozen times in Derby

Then I always liked is 'Bab' for the youngest of the family. My wife's nan used to call her 90 year old brother 'the bab'

This is an empathy post with fellow west Walian yahyah. Bloody rain every day, everywhere. We've got mud flats outside - 3 muddy dogs with 12 muddy legs and paws to deal with every time we take them out and back in again. So wet and windy today Mr Riots has resorted to sitting at the kitchen table and replacing batteries in our collection of torches (we've got torches for everywhere and every occasion - even hanging out of our a....s, no, not really that last one). And I've resorted to cleaning the kitchen around him - that's how naff it is. Rest assured I've not lifted a finger to clean behind the fridge. Bah .... humbug and all that.

That Bah reminds me that I went to buy a birthday card for my sister this morning. I found what I thought was a lovely little card with a fluffy hand painted sheep branded with a heart on its side. Luvvly jubbly I thought. Until I took it out of the cellophane packaging and saw that the reverse (which had been obscured by the envelope) read:

"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine." Isaiah 43v1

I found it very funny - no idea if that was the intention or I just have a very warped sense of humour. If it wasn't intended I think they could have put an alert on the card to say it was seriously religious (I mean a sheep with a pink heart on it ... who would have guessed?).

I'm now saving this card for the right person.
Working on the wild side.

I think that tweet is more revealing of the narrow vision of the tweeter & their inability to see beyond an accent than it is of any aspect of 'Hunty'. But I guess it is easier to throw around facile labels than it is to actually engage your brain.
