Q: Productivity growth is expected to be permanently lower. So can productivity growth drive economic growth.

Osborne says he is optimistic about productivity growth, but that he is not basing his plans on it.

He says there has been research into productivity and some of the findings are strange. For example, booking a holiday with a travel agent in person is deemed more productive than doing it online. That does not feel right, he says.

Osborne, 60% dissatisfied to 27% satisfied.
Before GE2015 he had net positive.
Six in 10 people are dissatisfied with Mr Osborne, including a third of Conservative supporters, compared with 46 per cent of the public in the month before the Budget.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who led opposition to cuts in disability benefits, has enjoyed a surge in his ratings, overtaking David Cameron.

I would like to take the opportunity of thanking Anatoly for the weekly local election round ups which I find absorbing reading and look forward to now as a weekly pleasure! They are so much more informative than the published polls. However, more generally and worryingly, I do sense a Lib Dem recovery based on the message that they kept the Tories under some sort of reasonable control even though we know that they colluded on some of the more harmful policies not least the NHS and austerity.

I know how you feel - but I'd happily settle for them regaining their heartlands (which are unlikely to go to Labour) if that contributes to the Conservatives losing the next General Election.

A cold, wet day.

Coming in from shopping found a bumble bee in distress on the garden path, so I put it in cream cheese box, brought it indoors and offered it sugar syrup, which it totally ignored. Then I tried it with best Manuka honey. That did the trick. I put the box by an open window, it lapped for a good fifteen minutes and then flew off.

George Osborne defends blocking analysis that shows how much money he takes from the poor and gives to the rich
The Treasury no longer publishes a core part of its distributional analysis

The Treasury used to publish a so-called distributional analysis with its budgets and autumn statements that included
a clear chart showing the impact of all changes on the incomes of all groups – from the poorest to the richest.

The scrapping coincides with independent analyses showing the Government's recent budgets have tended to
redistribute away from the poor and towards higher earners.

Good article on TTIP.

http://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolic ... gainst-it/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Makes the point that the Single Market as we already know it is far more ambitious than TTIP, that it was predicted to be a race to the bottom on regulatory standards, but wasn't.

But also argues that TTIP will entrench the existing order of large corporations dominating markets. I'm not sure I see that changing much anyway, so I wouldn't worry as much about it as some.

Yes I've every sympathy for her over that. But that doesn't automatically make Momentum itself a bad thing. Then there's having the thought process to ensure that there are no negative stories for Labour / Corbyn to allow the MSM ease up on the coverage of the Tories infighting. A bit more savvy please!

And I think SC actually has a pretty thick skin overall (she got threatened with rape, remember) but she seems to attract more dislike than several Labour MPs with similar politics. I don't blame her for thinking that isn't really fair.

Also slightly ironic she doesn't appear to get on with Jez, given they seem to share certain similarities (not least feeling distant from much of the PLP)

Someone will have a quiet word. Tell them they're making Poland look stupid. And remind them they're the biggest net beneficiary of EU

Suzanne Evans lawyer Richard Hendron tells me he did tell Ukip lawyer that rumour Farage beats wife might appear in Evans witness statement

Mrs Farage probably doesn't clean behind the fridge often enough. And she's an immigrant.

All options for restart seem to be negative, RR, we just need to sort things out, as humans we could be doing a better job. I have all sympathies for the loss of the victims and for their grieving friends and families, re Brussels, but the refugee blaming thing is beyond comprehension to me, where refuge is desperately needed instead we see bigotry, and there have been several articles and comments even from friends that for the first time they understand the rise of fascism and how it was actually enabled by ordinary people, I've seen enough bigotry in the last year for a lifetime, I truly hope this poor planet and its people recover from it. It won't go away on its own so I am grateful to all who oppose it in many and individual ways. Every little bit helps.

On another note, for the first time I saw the point of Rachel Reeves, she is like a terrier when she wants to be (have I got the right kind of dog, doesn't let go?) well done her for hanging in today, the repeated refusal of GO to respond to reasonable questions duly noted.
