£100 billion borrowing pledge by @scrabbmp sounds a bit like Farewell to deficit reduction @BBCr4today
Funny how they've suddenly realised what people have been saying for the past five years - that if there are infrastructure projects that need doing, then with interest rates at record lows, now is the time to borrow.

edit: now rethinking & questioning whether he would have a food tester, as I suspect it would go against his ethics.
hmm, think I must be having a pro corbyn swing today.

Which gives me an idea.
I'm going to open a new thread called David Cameron's real legacy, where over the next few months we can compile a timeline of his gaffes, u-turns and various disasters ready to publish on the day he leaves number 10.
Are we on board?

This Guardian 'long read' is worth a look even if it is by Rafael Behr. In a refreshing departure from recent coverage, the piece is relatively light on how Corbyn 'lost' the campsign, looking at how the In campaign was made to pull its punches to avoid a serious split in the Tory party, and, how the serious backlash by people who see themselves suffering while elites don't caught the campaign by surprise.

"Mark Priest of ETX Capital says Standard Life’s decision to freeze its property fund last night has spooked the City, and helped to drive down the pound.
Standard Life’s decision to close redemptions on its open-ended property fund is vitally important and shows just how precarious the situation is right now.
This seems to have precipitated some pretty big selling in property stocks and asset managers, with Legal & General and Aberdeen Asset Management suffering nasty falls this morning. Barratt Developments and Taylor Wimpey are down 5% again.
Investors are getting very nervous now as they fear Standard Life may not be the only fund that will close its doors. The last time we saw this kind of action was in the financial crisis."

Morning (just). Not feeling like commenting much at the moment. Corbyn is apparently announcing his 'final' shadow cabinet today. If I can hope for one good thing to come out of this entire debacle it's that the young bloods and previously overlooked MPs produce some new stars to carry the Party forward once Corbyn has been deposed. Because the current set in the old guard have demonstrated themselves to be completely unfit to run a fricking birthday party, never mind an opposition party. Hoping the whole lot of them are gone by 2020. Useless bloody imbeciles.
Also a shift to offering PR is being mooted by both sides of the party according to the PLB. Silver linings?

Listened to 5Live this morning where they were giving the teachers' strike extra coverage. Can't remember the name of the reporter, (Clive Barnett perhaps?), but he was dreadful. If I say he said 'These commie traitors should be hung', I'd only be slightly exaggerating.
Then they had a debate with a striker and some woman from the Campaign for Real Education. What a thicko! (CfRE woman obvs). Why do these people who oppose all strikes always insist they support the right to strike? They don't.

Good morfternoon.
I'm so glad somebody else has noticed.Crispin Blunt, the Conservative MP who chairs the foreign affairs committee, told Oliver Letwin that it was a “dereliction of duty” for David Cameron not to make any contingency planning for a Brexit vote. There were only two possible outcomes from the referendum, he said. And, since Cameron said he was planning to remain as prime minister whatever the result, he should have planned for a leave vote, he said. (Politics Live, Guardian)

John Lewis report slowing of sales from 7.3% to 2.1% in the week after the Brexit vote.
They are holding their clearance sale, which is usually very popular.
Well done Brexit/Lexit. If mutually owned companies with a good record of charitable giving, non contributory pensions, and good staff benefits including education and leisure subsidies, suffer there will be more room for the cowboy companies. Just what we need.
