I don't know how I survived the darks times of buillding more houses in one City than the rest of the Country put together, and the obviously unelectable ploy of replacing a Tory MP and then increasing the majority in successive elections. The thuggery, especially enacted by Kate,a 5ft "1 bespectacled mother of two librarian ,viscious she was, blatantly tried to sell me a newspaper once. And the tempestuous meetings of chair throwing maelstroms of abuse,or falling asleep to the light droning, waiting for it to be over to be threatened by someone buying you a pint in the bar afterwards,as I call it.It's funny how myth/reality,personal experience and the re-writing of your own history interact.

This is what she says.
Mabel Hahner:
I always find it difficult to find Labour documents - they are all over the place. I think the issue is about freeze date - see Chapter 4 Clause II C(iv) (Page 14 in 2015 Rule Book) - I would like to know if this has been agreed by an Independent Scrutineer. Elections always have freeze dates (for selection of a Candidate for Local Gov it is 6 months,. 'The timetable for the election, including any
freeze date, and the procedures for agreeing
the list of those eligible to vote must be
approved by the Independent Scrutineer.'
I dont know what freeze dates were used for leadership elections prior to last year, but an expectation was set in 2015 as the freeze date was very short.
In 2010 the latest date for new members to join was 8th Sep - with result on 25th Sep - so what is precedent for this 6 month freeze date - I think we need to know who the Independent Scrutineer so we can query whether it is fair?
Diane Rayburn Sounds like a bit of a nightmare trying to sort it out. Thanks for trying.
I have found the House of Commons Briefing Paper from 29th June which includes the rules and information about previous leadership elections. This confirms the dates from the previous 2 elections, and that the 6 month freeze date is a departure from previous practice. It includes the requirement for the Independent Scrutineer but it doesn't say who has been appointed. I wonder how I can find out?
I have emailed the address on the website leadership2016@labour.org.uk - you never know, they might respond

All that really needs to happen is for the PLP to be made more representative of the unions and membership.
Not a piece of cake, but far from impossible either.

Re: Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th July 2016
It involves the more toxic elements leaving the party, I actually think the hard right extremists will go after the election and the threat of deselection, which a left leaning NEC and Corbyn as leader is likely to bring in after this coup. I actually think the vast majority of the PLP will knuckle down, some will go, some councillors will follow them, maybe even a couple of MEP's. Does anyone really think someone like Akehurst would be a great loss to the movement?AnatolyKasparov wrote:Yes, its still doable and worth doing.mbc1955 wrote:I hate to repeat myself, but does anyone still believe this Labour party ought to be kept together?

I also firmly believe that if the party had united behind Corbyn this last year, then Labour would be hammering the tories i the polls.

From one of a number of sometimes sickeningly stupid pieces on Cameron's legacy, a better one...
I felt for him on Wednesday as he stood in the rain with his family, winds whipping round Downing Street, his legacy fighting a perfect storm. There goes a true representative of our country, I thought: a miserable, freezing family forced out of their home unexpectedly.

No need to apologise.
It was a non subtle attempt to get a response, sorry you are in pain.Luckilly I am not just don't sleep much. Thanks for response. Now I've got a response I cannot think of anything useful to say then again I rarely do.FWIW I lost my sanity some years ago,it was taken in the great "sanity coup" scandal.of 1998,you probably heard about it,then again probably not as I've just made it up.If you have read this far I admire your resiliance to utter bullshit and I hope I have in some way bored some of your pain away.

Hellooooooo!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday, dearest A and lovely tank, I was mainly not commenting because I didn't feel like it. Mainly because.... I just didn't feel like it.
This is, I believe (copyright I.D.Perugia Nosferatu Smiff), a reasonable explanation.
Today, however, I do. Feel like it, that is. Although I'd be quite keen to lapse into a trance-like state. I could sort of float above it all whilst contemplating the beauty of cerulean blue skies .......oh bollocks. It's still raining.
Obviously, I have to be very very careful today. Note to Ephie - do not roll eyes, do not tut, do not shake your head, do not mutter under your breath, do not raise your voice, do not indulge in "aggressive physical behaviour, regardless of whether that was the intent, for example, finger pointing". Oh, and don't throw a brick at a building thus breaking a window that is not someone's office window.
Meanwhile - I'd like to thank pk1 for the post yesterday with Ann Black's version of event at the NEC meeting. It shed a bit of light on what went on, which is always useful. I remain a bit troubled that three legal opinions were discussed, but only one of the QCs who wrote one was allowed to present their view; and I remain unimpressed that an item not on the original agenda for the meeting, ie. the new restrictions on who can vote in the leadership election and the £25 fee, was agreed.
Lots of articles in the Observer about Labour - and now it seems that Smith and Eagle are both pitching themselves as unifying candidates. They like a bit of unity. Which is why they are standing against the leader their membership voted for. Obviously.
Saving Labour has about 10,000 followers on social media; it was actively encouraging people to sign up for £3 to oust Corbyn, and to email their MPs to urge them not to back him. It was set up by Reg Race, who was the first MP to utter the word "fuck" in the Commons and had a not very distinguished political career; he is also the owner of Quality Health which has 320 contracts with NHS trusts to provide surveys. Race is a party donor and supported Alan Johnson's bid for the leadership in 2007.
Now that the NEC has changed the rules, Angela Eagle and Saving Labour aren't going to get the votes they hoped for from the £3 supporters; neither will Smith or Corbyn. So it's possible that the eligible membership is not so different from this time last year, and unless people have changed their minds, Corbyn could win again. I hope he does, because I can't see that the others would be any better, to be honest.
