I would have imagined a tortoise called Tarquin to be wearing tiny tortoise pince-nez discussing Satre with said lawnmower.
As to the lawnmower's thoughts on French existentialism I couldn't say without knowing the model, if it's one of those old cylindar ones I could see it having a broadly Buddhist outlook.

Indeed a cylinder one.The fact it is only four inches,gives Tarquin plenty of time for incantations.He wears a baseball cap.
