People forget Depeche Mode were decidedly uncool for a long time and being a fan during the uncool 80's period makes me a proper fan, I was there at Whitley Bay icerink, I was there at Murrayfield icerink. My Dad drove me to both then sat in the car reading a book.
Although i will swear blind that my first album was Parallel Lines (because it was the first one I chose and bought for myself, although I had some other things as presents before then) I have a feeling that the first album that was actually considered 'mine' was a freebie from the Bernie Inn which had a Terry Jacks version of this song.
(Giles Smith in the very good book 'Lost In Music: A Pop Oddysey' says that something as important as the first record you ever bought should not be left to something as arbitrary as the truth, which I very much agree with).
I think I've listened to this 20+ times in the last week. Never get tired of Tool and this in particular. It's a musically complicated song and this video, made for someone's maths coursework, explains the mathematics behind it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wS7CZIJVxFY
