The benefits of bin dipping.

Post by Sky'sGoneOut »

A friendly vegan freegan told me of a Waitrose not far away you could get in and out of pretty easily so earlier tonight dressed all in black wearing my beret, like a French ninja, I made my way up there, and besides jumping down off a wall into some darkness I judged to be much closer than it actually was and scraping my arm, all went well.

Here's what the bins had to offer...

2 x 500g pack of Chicken breast fillets.
400g Scottish smoked salmon.
Pack of German Brunswick ham.
Spanish chicken and roast potatoes in weird wooden containers.
Chicken, ham hock and leek pie.
Pack of duck spring rolls.
Chicken and vegetable risotto.
Wild rice and Haloumi salad.
Pack of four pears.
A load of chocolate mousses.

Now bear in mind I've only got a little backpack (no it's true) and I mostly only took meat to leave stuff for the vegans so that's a mere fraction of the delights that were on offer. I think such raids shall become my new Tuesday night 'thing'.

He also told me about some charity shop bins nearby you could get into but I gave them a miss. I mean we all have to have our standards.

As an addendum may I stress for anyone thinking of getting up to this kind of the thing the importance of taking a torch. In my infinite wisdom I failed to foresee that creeping about in the dark in a strange place might be made slightly less irksome if one had some kind of convenient light source to hand. Oh and rubber gloves, I'll definitely be taking those next time as well. Not all the bins have nice things in them.

This one's right next door to a church so you can drop down from the church wall. An ecclesiastical breach in their defences.

Torch and gardening gloves. I've got a pair that'd give you loads of grip and protect your hands from all those nicks and scrapes you get from clambering over walls, as well as from the, um, detritus in the bins! Night-vision goggles would be great, too.

You can get throw away lighters that have a little torch in the bottom. I reckon it would be exactly what you need. It gives off a blue light, so not quite so obvious as a harsh yellow beam.

Sounds like you did well...A bigger knapsack next time?

Yesterday night I even got beer. Four cans of Abbot Ale with an expiry date next year. What kind of sick monkey throws perfectly good beer in the bin?

Are you suggesting they're treating me as some kind of pet?

 :lol!: Just spat mi tea.... and crying laughing! Got a lovely image of a couple of night-shift workers being all chuffed because they had made you happy with their beer donation and debating what else they can offer :)
