A couple of weeks ago a mistle thrush was got by a cat and its bones were lying outside and junior here turned up and ate them. Properly gnawed away until they were all gone.

These baby squirrels are nigh on twice the size they were last week.

If you're growing that fast presumably you need loads of calcium.

Or maybe junior is some kind of monster who wants to eat our bones.

He doesn't look like it but appearances can be deceiving.

I don't think I've ever seen a baby squirrel. You'll have to train it to tap on the window for peanuts. We had one that used to do that if we were late putting out food. We had a massive oak tree at the bottom of the garden, and I used to sweep up mounds of acorns, so it never needed to go hungry, but it preferred peanuts. I read that summer is when they can starve. They hibernate if it gets too cold then wake up but no acorns til Autumn.
When we moved I told the new owners what it did, and left a couple of pound of peanuts to get them started...I hate moving and leaving the animals I've fed behind.

They say they will dig up your bulbs and eat them, but I never had a squirrel that did that. And they're supposed to like plums. Don't know if that's true or not. Perhaps they go for other sorts of food if they're really hungry? I always used to make sure there was enough peanuts for the birds and the squirrels.
