If he's voted out next year there's a chance I will self combust, there are no words left to describe their shallowness. He voted for it in the first place, Christ I would have more respect for him if he stood by his actions, which isn't saying much, I have more respect for a dog turd.

One of the Tories (I think it was Philip Davies) asked (twice) whether this meant the end of the coalition.....

And I said as much, in one of my comments. I do get that the NATO Summit is the 'Big Event' but comments on the catering for journos, the lunchtime menu for the delegates and a bit about the Red Arrows and not a single word about a significant & embarrassing defeat for the Government? That is just odd, and I couldn't let it go unremarked. Has to be editorial policy (Andrew is always quiet about IDS) and confirms my low opinion of the ATL Politics coverage.AnatolyKasparov wrote:I doubt if it was entirely AS's decision what he is covering today, tbf. Pretty astute dat. I would expect the Scum to give the Tories the most wishy-washy of recommendations come May 2015. The rest you're spot on with. The Star don't seem to have any interest in politics - they have Guido as their 'political columnist', which I think tells you everything you ever need know about that diseased organ. I half expect them to come out for UKIP. The Excess certainly will, as they consider everything that's ever occurred since 1954 to be part of some terrible lefty conspiracy to destroy the Empire and do down their white, middle class, octogenarian readership. I still shudder when recalling that I grew up in a household where the Excess was the only paper to be read there and Sir Jonah Junor to be a political sage.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Don't think that will happen - his "eminence grise" here Trevor Kavanagh remains as committed to the Tory cause as ever - but I do wonder if any endorsement of Dave by the Currant Bun will be anywhere near as fulsome as the PM hopes for?letsskiptotheleft wrote:Murdoch and Farage have a secret meeting in NY, I wouldn't put it past the old bugger to endorse the Kippers, not for a minute.

Re: Friday 5th September 2014
For once, the FibDems are getting a round of applause BTL:
http://www.theguardian.com/society/2014 ... mentpage=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Admittedly, it's a slow hand clap, but I suppose it goes to show that they do have a vague sense of self preservation in the FibDems. Shame it'll probably never make it to the statute book (private members' bills rarely do). I noted above that this probably signals the beginning of the end for the coalition, so you can expect very little government business to get through the house, if this becomes the default setting, IMO.
To my mind, it's too little, too late, and neatly ignores the fact that the bedroom tax wouldn't even be on the statute book were it not for the Fibs supporting in the first place. Expect FibDemVoice to trumpet this bill as the true spirit of the FibDems whilst quietly ignoring how it became law.

I see this picks up on the story that Wembley Matters ran which I commented on yesterday. It's all very well saying that:
But the fact remains that many of them simply aren't suitable to use as schools. Gove talked about one starting in the DfE! Playground? Playing fields?"The whole concept of free schools is that they can happen anywhere. We try to save the taxpayer money by trying to make use of old buildings."
I don't buy the "Oh I couldn't work" line - she could have easily slotted into a school after the fuss died down but she'd set her mind on running a school herself.
I do wonder why Daisy Christodoulou and Harriet Sergeant have bailed out as governors even before the school starts - especially as Daisy was supposed to be their curriculum expert. Wouldn't you want to see it in action first?. Maybe they found they couldn't deal with her. It'll come out eventually I reckon.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Christodolou is very ambitious (in a not entirely positive sense) and she'll have her eye on more important stuff than this school. Sergeant is just an out and out chancer.

Breitbart is by and for free-market pseudo-libertarian loons. I would imagine the BTL is some kind of unholy mix of the Telegraph and Guido's blog (not ventured BTL there).ErnstRemarx wrote:What is it with t'interwebs and BTL comments? Thank you, Bryant seems to have been particularly good today? Had a smirk at his Rees-Mogg barb ''the representative for the 16th century'' or something like that.HindleA wrote:letsskiptotheleft wrote:Has anyone any idea how the LibDems, who attended voted? Going to find an old saucepan and that can be used as a spittoon as I read the list.

It seems that Labour have won 3 votes in a row, no doubt it be dismissed as not being important, but Chief-Whip Gove isn't doing a terrific job is he?

They spent £170,000 before they deferred the opening in 2012, but it was money well spent:
"This includes the development of marketing and consultation materials which could be used as the basis for their current marketing and consultation in Brent as well as educational and staffing plans, governance arrangements, policies and procedures and other material which can be used by the school when it opens in Brent. It would be therefore be unreasonable to say that this money had been wasted"
£170K for dashing off a few policy documents? You could have paid me less than that & I would have knocked some out. Also, it's only 120 kids at the most, and a staff of 7. That's a pitifully small number & would be unviable in the real world.
Oh, and she's a hag. I'm glad she's got eczema because of it.

Haven't read any approvals for May's choice yet. Is this another Tory cock-up?
Panel looks like it will have different areas of expertise. The chair needs to be a bright person who isn't associated with a particular one.
There's a QC as counsel.

Stephen Gilbert & Adrian Sanders didn't vote for either so presumably weren't there

I was going to post a reasoned reply, but costcentre2 just hoyed his school blazer over (two days usage) for me to repair. Fortunately, I did Home Ec at my comp back in the '70s, unlike Mrs55 who went to a posh school. She knows the difference between the pluperfect and preterite tenses, but can't sew for toffee.

Absolutely delighted that the bill from Lib Dem @AndrewGeorgeLD to fix the Tories' bedroom tax has passed thanks to Lib Dem and Labour MPs

Ha ! You all thought Channel 4 was for us lefties didn't you ?!
Think again:

Actually Ms Long - the official title is under-occupancy penalty & that you think it is called the spare room subsidy says more about you & C4 than I care to think about. The sneer at Reeves was unnecessary & puts a whole new complexion on the so-called 'left-leaning' stance.
Think again:
“The bedroom tax is on its way out,’ trumpets Labour’s Rachel Reeves on Twitter with no fewer than four exclamation marks!!!! But both her optimism and excitement are perhaps a little premature, even after today’s government defeat in parliament over reform of the spare room subsidy, to give it its proper title.
