Thank you Nitin Sawhney - speaking on Channel 4 news about his childhood in Rochester and how sad he is at UKIP being elected to represent the area.

Re: Saturday 22st & Sunday 23rd November 2014
I am a wazzock! Where the heck did Watney's come from? Oh, yes, their old Brewery (Stag, formerly Mortlake) is/was just north of here in Mortlake, next door to where Ind Coope was. And, although it is now owned by a German company (and is producing Budweiser) it is having much of its equipment removed to Wales right now and will be closed, completely, by the end of next year. That is another 140 or more jobs going, locally – and a load more des-res river-side apartments getting built...TheGrimSqueaker wrote:Dangerously close to an incitement to violence imo, if just one of those houses is targeted for some form of attack in the near future the Mail are in deep shit; Dacre et al may think they are being clever, but those houses contain the MP's families as well.RogerOThornhill wrote:Just seen that - since when was Neil Kinnock part of "Ed Miliband's elite"?DonutHingeParty wrote:The Daily Maul this morning has an article which is basically a sneeringbmap to the shadow cabinets houses. I've heard of one rule for the rich and one for the poor but I didn't think it was supposed to work this way #Leveson.
Incidentally, Alistair Cameron and David Miliband are private individuals so shouldn't they be protected?
Not quite sure what the point is "MPs who primarily work in London...have houses in London"? Shocked...
@LadyC, you're very welcome. And wonderfully coincidental to hear that we were in much the same area at the same time!
On the subject of dray horses, Young's used them for local deliveries from their Ram Brewery in Wandsworth eight up until its closure in 2006 and they still maintain a couple of teams for promo purposes. And quite a number of local breweries all over the country have started using them again for local deliveries, for environmental, promotional and (even) economic reasons. All quite luvverly.
It was Young's I meant...
First went there (to see the horses) as a tiddler with the Pony Club, lived and worked around the corner in the late-seventies, have taken my son and his friends there countless times – and gone on my own many times, too, and then campaigned to prevent the closure and redevelopment of the Ram Brewery, its stables and yard, and their mini-farm. It is a bloody sad loss – and the horses are much missed by many in the area.
I'm glad to know that there's an increase in the number of local breweries starting to use horses again. It makes so much more sense, for local deliveries, and makes the local people feel a part of things, too – as well as being luvverly
This time, I'm gonna be stronger I'm not giving in...

This has already been happening if you check the photo on the link. Our local Trussell food bank at the Kerith Centre announced they were going to do things differently this year.
In previous years they had poor families go to their hall and handed out food and presents. If it had been me I'd have felt humiliated. Thankfully they seem to have realised that it was a tad crass, and are just going to have a party for the kids, hand a few presents out and food parcels will be delivered.

I think you need also to distinguish between people who are actively working for an alternative (like the Greens) and people who are just mouthing off about parties all being the same. Though having said that, my SWP friend had put more time into working for an alternative than anyone.

Francois Hollande talked a certain amount of sense about austerity in the Eurozone, but didn't win any allies and even his mild social democracy barely lasted 2 years.

Politicians are human. They have the same faults, fancies and sometimes skewed opinions as a person who lives on a council estate. They look after their own, and Tories in particular operate very much within the 'old boys network'.StephenDolan wrote:Evening all.

But, as long as they stayed within boundaries showed loyalty to the country, and resigned if they were caught out, things ticked along fairly well.
Unfortunately this lot are a new breed. Their arrogance and sense of power by right of birth and wealth far outweighs any talents they may have. It's no good appealing to their sense of decency or empathy because they've never been taught it.
The press barons are made in the same mould and aid and abet them. Even the Guardian uses offshore tax schemes to hold on to their money. The high ups are guarding their jobs and/or income and as Mr Ohso says, they'll kick, bollock and bite, and try every dirty trick in the book to keep it that way.
The only thing that will slap them down is deep humiliation in 2015.

I've thanked you for that lovely ambiguous turn of phrase - 'put him down'.TechnicalEphemera wrote:Business will put him down before he gets that far.rebeccariots2 wrote:Westminster Hour on Radio 4 - quite interesting stuff on Cameron's big immigration speech ... and some possible tactics re European negotiations (invoking the article that will start the process of leaving! - 'holding Europe's feet to the fire').

Sarah Vine insists the NHS isn't being sold off.
I asked her if Branson was putting in tenders out of the goodness of his heart.
Jesus wept. They must think we're all stupid.

Well - on the bright side - shows some of the Tory stalwarts are observing the #CameronMustGo tweets and are sufficiently rattled by them to feel they need to respond.ohsocynical wrote:Sarah Vine insists the NHS isn't being sold off.

Daily Express reporting on its front page that UKIP in SECOND place in new poll. No details of the pollster.

@HollowPoint64 @DouglasCarswell Doubt if it is YouGov because that is exclusive for national polls to News International

Could the ExprEss poll be this Sun readers' survey which IS NOT A PROPER POLL. Known in business as a "voodoo poll"

The Express "Ukip in 2nd place" poll story is only relevant if carried out by proper pollster. Otherwise just tabloid rubbish.

I know I shouldn't be posting this so late - just before bedtime - truly the stuff of nightmares. Ukip's new youth movement ...
Ukip plans Russell Brand style 'purple revolution' to attract younger voters
http://www.express.co.uk/news/politics/ ... ger-voters
The party has already almost doubled its membership among the under-30s in the past nine months, writes Caroline Wheeler.
Now it is launching its own youth movement, known as the Purple Revolution, to attract even more young members.
In what might be mistaken for a bizarre political alliance, Ukip has adopted the quirky lettering which appears on the cover of comedian Russell Brand’s new book Revolution for its own logo.
Like self-styled political activist Brand, Ukip has turned letters in the word REVOLUTION into mirror writing to read LOVE.
Ukip’s new recruitment bid, being bankrolled by millionaire donor Arron Banks, has its own website and offers those who sign up to its newsletter a free Purple Revolution Nigel Farage T-shirt.
Under the slogan “Love Britain Again” the website has a section entitled “Farage Gold” featuring some of the leader’s most famous speeches and exchanges. It even features the party’s new signature “victory” hand gesture, made famous by Winston Churchill....

Youtube have, slightly, improved their report function (but have hidden it under 'More', just to the right of the share buttons) and it was a pleasure to use it on that nasty little video. What an odious set of opinions that man has. And I find myself glad/relieved that he doesn't have any money...rebeccariots2 wrote:I watched the video. (not satire – it’s the UK today)
The rise of UKIP into the mainstream is allowing some very dark forces to feel emboldened enough to come out of the shadows.
Here’s a party political broadcast on behalf of the United Kingdom Independence Party by one of their supporters.
Be afraid – very afraid (if only of the hairstyle):
This time, I'm gonna be stronger I'm not giving in...

Francois Hollande talked a certain amount of sense about austerity in the Eurozone, but didn't win any allies and even his mild social democracy barely lasted 2 years.
