The best way to achieve better work is to ensure that employees have the power to reject oppressive jobs and choose good ones. This requires that they have outside options – something to walk away to.
And yet Taylor doesn't mention the things that would increase these options and so empower workers. These include disempowering monopsonies; a more generous welfare safety net (such as a citizens income); stronger trades unions; and macroeconomic policy that creates plentiful jobs.

Re: Tuesday 11th July 2017
There was a fluff article in the guardian earlier/the other day ( I lose track of time) about 'who is your celebrity doppleganger'.
I think I've just found mine, although he isn't quite a celebrity yet. Give it a few days and the appointment of a Special Prosecutor, though...
Rob Goldstone: who is the man who set up Trump Jr's meeting with a Russian lawyer? It's me!
ETA - I think it's the glasses in that picture, I don't look like him in the other pics I can find.

So it would seem according to Newsnight that high street shops can get away with this fake 'self employed' bollocks.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-40512248" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
People are being harrassed, given set hours, docked money if they don't follow strict rules, told they're being filmed all the time so they stick to said strict rules. All for way less than the minimum wage. From what I could gather some were earning £50 for a 60 hour week. Which to my feeble maths skills equates to less than a pound an hour.
And currently this is legal in this country. Because apparently these people are 'self employed', despite all the evidence to the contrary.
But do the tories care when it means they can blather on about record employement figures? Will May do anything about it after the summer recess?
I suspect the answer to both of those is 'no'.

The case for a huge expansion of electronic monitoring using GPS was unproven, but the Ministry of Justice pursued an overly ambitious and high risk strategy anyway. Ultimately it has not delivered.

Re: Tuesday 11th July 2017
The GPS on my phone (presumably largely the same technology as in these tags) currently seems to think I'm 50 metres below sea level according to the altimiter, and as I'm indoors and it can't get a proper track on the satellites it would appear to believe I'm wandering around randomly about half a mile away.
GPS doesn't work indoors, it's as simple as that, as a result of the laws of physics. And even outside it can be a bit patchy at times due to both the laws of physics and basic Euclidean geometry.
My suprise level registers approximately zero when I see this nonsense being bought by scientifically illiterate ministers from rapacious companies like G4S.
It's 21'st century snake oil. And the fact ministers can't do a 5 minute Google search asking what GPS is and how it works is obviously a joke, but also what we've come to expect in this benighted country.
