Re: Thursday, 31st August 2017
Morning all.
Thank you. I'd got to the point where I was thinking about what I would tell the kids if the worst happened. Awful feeling.
So, 20 years eh?
One of the most ludicrous things I've ever seen was on the release of Candle In The Wind where I happened to be in the local town and decided to go to Our Price to have a look for something. Big mistake. The queue of people lining up to pay for the single stretched through the shop and 20 yards or so into the shopping centre.
I just though "What the bloody hell?" - most of the country seemed to have taken leave of their senses - people saying they felt worse than after their mum or dad died!

"Our Price" is responsible for my owning some really awful LPs which I bought on the back of loving just one or two tracks. ("Our Price" used to have a sort of "remainders bin" - the contents of which were so cheap that I couldn't resist.)

Re: Thursday, 31st August 2017
When you put this alongside the Frances Ryan piece you linked earlier which shows how families are losing quite substantial sums from the family element on moving across to universal credit, the overall picture is pretty stark. They're taking money from those most in need in the name of austerity to give to the better off to buy votes to stay in power. It's always been the Tory MO, but they're going so far so fast you wonder whether it'll all keep hanging together for them or if something will break so badly even the Mail can't ignore it any longer.HindleA wrote:https://amp.theguardian.com/society/201 ... e-spending

Once whilst doing the school run, wearing his wifes's (rather skimpy)dressing gown and nothing else the car broke down and had to walk to the garage. The car got sorted eventually not sure if witnesses/staff have completely recovered.

The press conference was a non-event (although I didn't expect otherwise). Although I learned that we make nice pitchers which, at a pinch (and as a one-off), blend well into a Japanese tea ceremony.

Ah yes, 20 years ago.
In the week after the crash, I was in the town square chatting to a mate as I waited for a taxi.
This middle aged woman walked up to us literally wagging her finger, and then exclaimed "why are you just standing there laughing and joking, why aren't you showing that you CARE?"
We were, quite literally, speechless.
Just as well she didn't see the copy of Private Eye I had just bought, either. One of their greatest covers ever

I went swimming only to get out and find my locker had been broken into, bag taken with keys inside...and then find my car had been nicked.
So instead of going to see my dear wife, I am awaiting a locksmith to change the locks just in case.

Bummer. You're wise to take the lock-changing precaution. I hope it all gets sorted out satisfactorily and that hospital visits can be accomplished without too much trouble. Car hire? Perhaps your insurance covers that.
