Here's one of Osborne's scrawny rabbits I guess. Except - if people have any sense and memory - they will realise the game here. Savagely cut said flood defence budget when you get into power ... and leave it that way for 4 years. Then announce more funds just before the election ... as though you are increasing the budget, when you're not, maybe just restoring some of what you took away but to different places .... places that are more favourable for you come the election. But said funds won't materialise until well after the election anyway. All a game of promises, promises - designed for maximum publicity.Heckle the PM... get £15m for flood defences
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/po ... 93248.html
... The Whitehall source noted that Yalding is also in a constituency that is expected to be a straight LibDem-Conservative fight in May's election. Tory Helen Grant held the seat in 2010, but on a substantially reduced majority of 5,889 after the Lib Dems' vote share rose by 13.2 per cent...

Well how daft would that be? Even if the Conservatives scrape through the election and get into power again ... doubt very much that Cameron will go unchallenged as leader. That's the JCB run by one of his party donors Anthony Bamford who he made into a life peer last year...
Did anyone comment on this already?

Of course it would be daft, would anyone be surprised though. Any position the Guardian takes will lack any sort of coherence, being hypocritical if they go Labour and against their history if any other wayrebeccariots2 wrote:Well how daft would that be? The evidence is there though. They are laying off Cameron - and in this article giving him a great big benefit of the doubt, whilst at the same time trying to big up LD opposition to the worst excesses of Osbornomics......they may figure that a hung Parliament is inevitable and their preferred option would be a LD/Tory continuing
I cannot see how the Guardian can credibly back a Labour win, or anything that leaves Miliband as PM, based on their personal attacks over the last few months. The political editorial staff are all soft Tories/Blairites/Orange Bookers to a man (Wintour, Watt and thenon-entities whose names I cannot even remember)

Radio 4 reported the location as being at JCB without a mention that Bamford is a Cameron pal, Tory donor etc.

And probably quite a few tax cuts which "pay for themselves".
I think they're probably planning to pay for everything else by abolishing the Dept of Culture Media and Sports.
The wording re the NHS is very careful - free at point of use - doesn't commit to how it's funded and managed.
At present their policies for the people webpage reads like a list of every populist idea that could be shouted out from the floor at their Doncaster conference. Which, in fairness, is pretty much what they say it is.
But it's basic and the only way to get decent treatment is to take out Health insurance. Which is what Farage wants.

He isn't, the Lib Dem PPC is Jasper Gerard; he was born in the area and still lives here (yes, this is my constituency, so we know Allen has no real chance - but we ain't letting that stop us!!), used to be a columnist for the Sunday Times I believe.RobertSnozers wrote:Hmm. Maidstone was Anne Widdecombe's seat, so there was no incumbency, and circumstances were a bit unusual in 2010 as the LibDem PPC was Peter Carroll who very publicly had Joanna Lumley as a supporter when he was lobbying for Gurkhas' rights. He also started a very successful campaign to stop changes to maternity services which would have meant the consultant led service moving to Tunbridge Wells. Grant had to follow. Didn't help that she was an 'A-Lister'.rebeccariots2 wrote:Here's one of Osborne's scrawny rabbits I guess. Except - if people have any sense and memory - they will realise the game here. Mind you, I can't imagine Grant will have much of an incumbency benefit in 2015 as Andrew Lansley signed off on the plans to reorganise the maternity services (after unsuccessfully trying to kick it into the long grass) just before Christmas 2010. Grant virtually went into hiding and had to reinvent herself somewhat. I can't imagine she's particularly popular locally. Thing is, I can't see Carroll doing better than last time (if indeed he is the candidate) especially with LibDem support imploding nationally.
People were spitting blood last year over the flooding; Yalding is prone to flooding and had been earmarked for some serious defences under Labour's plans, the plans that were ditched by the Tories as soon as they took office. So, yes, you're right, Grant's popularity has taken a hit and the Lib Dems have retained some popularity here, but not enough to give Gerard the edge, even with the Kipper factor. Sadly you could stand the proverbial blue rosette wearing donkey here and it would take this seat.

Maidstone has been a LibDem/Liberal "target" since the 1970s without ever quite seeming to come within reach.
Grant is a genuine example of that much abused term "parachute" - she was basically imposed on the local party by Cameron who wanted "progressive" brownie points (as somebody who was both non-white and ex-Labour, she ticked two boxes at once) and there is still resentment there. Given the state of the LibDems nationally, though, hard to see her not getting a lukewarm "endorsement" again next year.

Not RoT and not fully sure, but reading 4.5 and 4.6 of the "Explanatory Memorandum" it appear to tighten the definition of disability (for DSA) and restrict the amount a disabled student can claim towards computer equipment to only items over £200 (so would exclude printer cartridge's, paper, software programs etc. )citizenJA wrote:@ RogerOThornhillWhat Miliband & Labour team want annulled linked below.Early day motion 572

For those interested the recent 'Ecopop' initiative in Switzerland has been roundly defeated
This was sold as being a ecological and environmental initiative to limit population growth but the UDC (or SVP in German) have been involved and they are clearly racist. The environmental side always has some merit in discussion but this type of approach based on population - ie immigrant - is easily hijacked by others
The vote was considered to be in the balance but it looks a pretty clear 'No' even in the reactionist Cantons. I ive in Vaud which was the strongest against the initiative
The Guardian featured ti vote today which is why I mentioned it

Re: Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th November 2014
In that they said £2m and that's a fraction of £10m, that is correct.Balls told the programme that Labour would put an extra £2.5bn a year into the NHS, partly paid for by its mansion tax on homes worth more than £2bn.
Osborne said it was more accurate to describe this as a “homes tax”.
He said: “Of course they come on this show and say it’s for people with houses worth £10m or £15m, but once Labour introduces a homes tax, it will be people with homes with a fraction of that who will be clobbered with it.”
Is he still on the stuff from the other day?

Just hearing about what the BBC comes out with - and lets Tories and Kippers come out with - these days makes my blood boil.
Haven't been able to watch much for most of this year, and by all accounts it is just getting worse.

Labour man on his deathbed announced he'd become a Tory. When his friend asked why, he said "I'd rather one of theirs died than one of ours"

Sorry - Daily Mail:
PM frustrated by not being able to kill stuff. Much like the Normans when they'd run out of Northerners to harry.

It's mugging people like us off, hoping we'll support it because it makes nice nature programmes.

@RR, Electoral Calculus still have the seats local to you still as Labour gains, wishful thinking or do you tend to agree?

Funny figures on there. Plaid Cymru holding one seat is 100%.
Labour holding Blaenau Gwent is merely 99.9%

Am so sick of seeing the same self-satisfied presenters recycled into more and more fields they have no expertise in, that they'd have to pay me quite a bit to get me to watch any of their nature/culture and other once-interesting programmes.Tubby Isaacs wrote:I've completely given up on it.tinyclanger2 wrote:Just hearing about what the BBC comes out with - and lets Tories and Kippers come out with - these days makes my blood boil.

Perfect example of why I am wary of some of their predictions, no doubt they stand a token Muslim in that constituency? Wonder if there's one selected, do you know?

I don't know. The BNP stood here last time, and duly got 2.8%.letsskiptotheleft wrote:Tubby Isaacs wrote:Ha, ha.

All 3 main parties plus Respect had Muslim candidates last time.

Well, finished moving the last of my stuff and am now fully moved into my new house. Just relaxing with a beer and the rugby. Also catching up with all the great posts today.

As long as they fully renounce their previous beliefs, I don't see any problem with former BNP/EDL members joining another party. Obviously, if they are standing for office there needs to be a lot of checking for skeletons.rebeccariots2 wrote:ohsocynical wrote:Arthur Seaton @lockhart_flaws 10m10 minutes ago
A Ukipper has just corrected me Griffin is not supporting Ukip just voting for them. That’s me told thenOtto English @Otto_English · 3h 3 hours ago
Kippers bang on about how UKIP alone bars ex BNP and EDL people from membership. Ever wondered why the other parties don't need that policy?

I moved in here over a year ago and still haven't finished unpacking. In fact, today I discovered that the cat has peed in one of my boxes - the one which contains some of my LPs. Any handy hints from any of you regarding remedying such a problem, please?
Hello, everyone! Just thought I'd pop in to talk about cat pee and generally raise the tone . . . .
