Morning!
Just looking at all the Zimbabwe news (or rather not news) I'm struck again by the desire above all else of many Zimbabweans to avoid conflict.

There's a link to gov.uk explanation of payment cycles -
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... ent-cycles" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And it says
So taking the weekly average over the period was too complicated?When you have 5 weekly earnings payments within an assessment period, your income may be too high to qualify for Universal Credit in that month.
If this happens you will be notified that your income is too high and you will no longer get Universal Credit.
You can re-apply the following month as you should only get 4 wage payments in your assessment period then.
You will need to be prepared for a month when you get 5 wage payments in one assessment period and budget for a potential change in your monthly Universal Credit payments.

@tinyboat
Some time ago and not quite same circumstances,I had a weekly maximum limit earnings but applied to one.This could cause potential problems at xmas,bank holidays etc with enhanced pay and non tandem with pay rises(hah) and limit (or not) changes.I know it was/is bone of contention and can't honestly remember the method of averaging out etc,but I sometimes did go over but only once disallowed in retrospect,some years later for one week I presume on "cleansing" operation.

I think what Labour's Abrahams says here is good. The formal rigmarole apparently necessary is frustrating. Abrahams wrote Hammond ahead of his budget, telling him UC won't do with evidence supporting why not. Asking Hammond to use the budget to fix UC seems naive to me but I think it's protocol. I regret these time-wasting political antics are required. If I'm wrong about any of this, let me know....Abrahams said there was increasing evidence that UC “is not fit for purpose – and Labour believes the budget is a chance to fix it”. The original aims of the system – to simplify social security support, ensure people were always better off in work than on benefits and reduce child poverty – were laudable, and had been supported by Labour, Abrahams wrote.
“But UC is failing to deliver on its objectives, as we have heard from respected charities including Child Poverty Action Group, Trussell Trust, Citizens Advice and Gingerbread. Even former government advisers, civil servants and UC’s own architects are now critical of the scheme,” she added. “As it is being rolled out, universal credit is pushing people into debt and rent arrears, with many people in social and private rented housing being served eviction notices.”
I'd likely use unparliamentary language over this government's series of bad leadership decisions. Tory media then calls my intervention communist guerilla warfare demands my exile if not worse.

Not quite getting that,it is her job,not least to put pressure on by any means possible.To not do so would be negligence.I am nobody I wrote/write to Ministers via MP etc with concerns zero expectatons but the replies in themselves provided evidence as to the level of ignorance,attitude and unjustifiable illogical nature of reforms,the effects of which were the opposite of their presention.At the bare minimum I have/had proof they were lying.

I think if you look at the ones existing/previous ones eg.this may increase the risk of homelessness,people borrowing from family subject to "behaviourial change",applied overwhelmingly to those not expected to work,may give a clue as to why they prefer to use "evidence",according to the simplest cherry picked cases as regards UC.

In context, I don't think Hammond said anything remotely objectionable. He was clearly just addressing the (Luddite) question of what happens when a particular kind of job (here drivers) disappears because of technological change.

Logistics company CEVA says delays could lead to ‘calamitous situation’ at Dover, but warns it may already be too late
Leigh Pomlett, the executive director of CEVA Group, which specialises in road, air and ocean-going freight, said Downing Street and the Treasury did not understand how difficult it would be to have a system in place in 15 months’ time, when the UK leaves the EU.
“It is just the urgency of this that worries me. It takes me longer to negotiate a supply chain contract than we have here. Arguably, it is already too late,” he said. (Guardian)

So, it turns out George Freeman announced he was standing down as Theresa May's policy chief this morning in a piece for ConsHome, in what was the most low-key resignation of all time.
So interesting that hardly anyone read to the end.

The investigation will look at:
whether or not Mr Grimes may have delivered a return that was incorrect in relation to a donation he received from Vote Leave and related campaign spending;
whether or not Veterans for Britain delivered a return that was incorrect in relation to a donation it received from Vote Leave and related campaign spending;
whether or not Vote Leave delivered a return that was incorrect in relation to campaign spending;
whether or not Vote Leave exceeded its spending limit in the referendum.
