No wonder Tory HQ got upset. Labour aren't responsible for this Tory foul-up received successful media transmission.Barry Gardiner, the shadow international trade secretary, had earlier told the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show that Labour had not ruled out staying in the single market and forging a new customs union with the EU.
“It’s not our call and it would be foolish of an opposition to actually put out there and say this is the solution, when we’re not in the negotiating table itself,” he said.
“If we’re at the negotiating table, we can have those discussions. I’d be very happy if Theresa May wanted to move over and call that election and let us do that. But until we’re around that table it’s not sensible to say what you can get out of the negotiations, because you’re not sitting there..."

Legatum: who are the Brexiteers’ favourite think tank and who is behind them?
It's arguably the most influential think tank in the country, pushing a free market pro-Brexit vision and enjoying privileged access to media and ministers. But what does their background in 'disaster capitalism' tell us about Legatum's Brexit agenda?

And whilst today's Observer might not have Cohen, it does apparently have a frightful fawning puff piece on Anna Soubry.
Which contrives not to mention her actual voting record at any point, but lets her get in lots of digs at Corbyn/Labour - totally unchallenged by the "interviewer".
Deeply shoddy, sloppy stuff - utterly unsurprisingly, comments have *not* been enabled.

Figures from the European Commission’s statistics body, Eurostat, show that British companies invest half as much per worker in vocational training as the EU average, and that investment in skills has fallen by 9% in real terms over the past decade.

Indeed, basically, the comparable countries in Europe regard a decent quality of life for citizens as a basic requirement; in the UK we see it a something that only the aristos, their modern "diaspora" and self-serving bastards deserve. The general view is that rest of us don't deserve it, and as a nation, judging by our voting record, we seem to agree.frog222 wrote:HindleA wrote:https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... -recessionFigures from the European Commission’s statistics body, Eurostat, show that British companies invest half as much per worker in vocational training as the EU average, and that investment in skills has fallen by 9% in real terms over the past decade.

I understand this better now. If I'd not lived through events home in the UK during this time, I wouldn't have understood as well. It's not comfortable or easily reconciled for me, acknowledging this classism. I know for certain all people deserve some of the best we create together. There's no excuse for shameful neglect of lives, none.

"" John McDonnell turned the tables on ITV’s Political Editor today by using the journalist’s recently published book to justify Labour’s spending plans.
The Shadow Chancellor quoted from Robert Peston’s “WTF” as he explained why Labour would borrow an additional £250billion to invest in the UK – despite the country already being in £1.8trillion of debt.
Peston was heard to mutter “Yeah I know what’s going to happen now” as McDonnell began referencing is latest book, leading the journalist to chuckle to himself as he heard his own arguments thrown back at him.""

Did we have this or something like it? I hadn't known this before now."But what actually happened just after 4.30pm on Friday? Two men, aged 21 and 40, have handed themselves over to police after an apparent altercation at Oxford Circus tube station. This confrontation, it is now reported, escalated into full-blown panic as the rumour mill whirred into action, turbocharged in real time by social media. MailOnline had to apologise for circulating a tweet claiming that a lorry had mounted the pavement on Oxford Street with “police all around it and blood on the floor”. The tweet was not only incorrect but 10 days old."
