Don't go bringing actual facts into this now ;)

It is also on the record, of course, that in both 2015 and 2016 certain Labour "moderates" were offered SC places by Corbyn and declined them.

Though it may still be significant that Adonis has so rubbished the idea of a shiny new "centrist" party saving the day for us all. Especially since Phil Collins (no, not that one) made yet another attempt to breathe life into that corpse just the other day.
LOL.
There is a reason Richard Burgon is shadow Lord Chancellor, and it isn't because Corbyn is able to work with people of divergent views.

He won't work with a Europhile Blairite like Adonis.
He's working with Cooper though. How does that fit into you narrative? Smith's also there in what could become an increasingly important role.
You're on to something there, refitman, thank you for pointing it out.
People will get along together well enough and effectively accomplish successful endeavours. Oh my god. What will become of us. People and country might thrive not merely survive. And then were will we be, eh?

He's knowledgeable and writes clearly. Labour Infrastructure Commission (I think that's what they were called, something like that) - Adonis' work on that was exciting, it was impossible not to be interested. He knew his subject. I don't have extensive knowledge like Tubby has but I know enough to understand extensive public transportation infrastructure investment solves about a dozen UK problems.
I don't know any more than you about infrastructure. I thought it looked like a good job for him, and would have been pleased with him having the same job under a Labour government.

He's had something of a midlife crisis since though. Among his stupid suggestions is applying the Pickles-like "don't pay more than the prime minister" to university Vice Chancellors. Plus he's got a bee in his bonnet about rail freight being bad and supports "platooons"of lorries, whereby they're supposed to voluntarily line up in convoys.

That's fair comment, but Lord Chancellor (as it still is in some ways) is supposed to be semi-detached, and it's not hard to find lawyers in Labour. It's the last position that should be held by a strong partisan.

I'd like McDonald moved from Transport, and somebody who actually knows how the system works in his place. That's likely to be somebody more business friendly, who doesnt listen to Tosh Gandalf. Lilian Greenwood was good, but she's burnt bridges.

One of the most depressing bits of that link I put up is that Roger Ford says he explained VTEC to McDonald, but he didn't take it in.

Whatever you think of nationalization, rail policy now is casting around for scary numbers (even if false) that can apparently be redirected to reducing fares at no cost to the taxpayer. So we're left with "efficiency savings", just like Jeremy Hunt talking about health.

The silly thing is that there's a very good "Corbynite" argument to be made against what's happened with VTEC. The government has scrimped on infrastructure spending (the amount is OK, but it's spread too thinly). So stuff gets cancelled, and money we'd be getting off VTEC disappears because they can get the contract cancelled. Corbyn would have had much more infrastructure investment done by now, if he'd been leading the government not the opposition from 2015.

We've had a moritorium on new Driver Only Operation trains announced by Andy McDonald. That's likely come from talking to the RMT too much- Labour is the only party that allows people who don't contribute to it to buy its policies.

You can have as many helpers as you like on trains as you like, whoever is opening the doors. There's no problem with that at all.

Handwriting to help Govt catch gangs behind mass-scale benefit fraud

"Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, David Gauke, said: "We are committed to tackling benefit fraud, especially from organised crime gangs, because it diverts money from the people who really need it."

They always come out with that line, yet to find any evidence of "redistribution".Fraud up by the way.

If Greening is to be sacked then May is being influenced by her right wingers who want a return to grammar schools.

I can't think of any other reason why she'd go - think she's been pretty sound although the social mobility plan is a bit weak - there's a limit to how much education can do to offset lack of decent jobs.

Nick Gibb for promotion? Might also be that they see Greening as not being sufficiently militant on academies.

Promoting Gibb would go down well with most of the edu tweeters who like his pushing "knowledge rich curriculum" stuff.

Grammars will never go away with May in the position she is now. If she'd won a healthy majority that would have been it but with Graham Brady being where he is, it's still a possibility.

Yeah, but New Zealand tend to vote for right wing, socially conservative governments and lack Australia's natural mining resources. I.e. they're not very wealthy and don't utilise the resources they have very well.

If Toby Young is now in the group of the great and good who get called upon to fill vacancies on panels and committees, then this country really has gone to the dogs in a big way.
