OBR sceptical about DWP's claims about UC.
They reproduce with implicit hilarity the onerous job description for the 13,000 work coaches being recruited for UC at £24,000 to £26,000 per year, commenting these “stretching roles are modestly remunerated”.

Compare with physiotherapists et al carrying out WCA's for not much less than £50k ...

Have been to bed and have just got up again (briefly).

Tuned in to Sky TV news Press Preview of tomorrow's papers -

Times - More on the Oxfam\charities story (seems to be a pretty murky story, at that)

Telegraph - UK could walk out of EU talks owing to the "increased aggression" on the part of Michel Barnier

Guardian - Labour\Water Privatisation

Sun - Jon Venables

Express - Theresa May setting out a roadmap (AA guide to Maidenhead?) for wonderful things

Very similar skewed presentation as per social care and intrinsically linked.Already time limited for JSA,setting up of needless divisions, diversions up blind alleys, neglectful of progressive societal/health care provision which leads to a third of average HB an adapted home, otherwise hospital based treatments ie.vast cost saving activity not least to the NHS presented as unsustainable. The removal of the ability to also work,a fuckwittery binaryfication, before you get to continued residualisation of basic State reciprocity. The unsustainabilty is the continued lack of investment subject to circumstance which it is and subsequent exponential costs.IMHO.

The independent @CPSThinkTank found it would actually require at least £176 billion more borrowing.

Good morfternoon.

If I hear one more person say that they are sure that there's a solution to the Irish border problem (without suggesting what that solution might be) . . .

(Theresa Villiers, this time - and you'd think she ought to be in a position to offer a theory\solution, if there is one.)

Oh - apologies. I gave you a bum steer on the Guardian's headline (from last night's Press Preview post). For "Guardian", please read "Observer". Sundays are very confusing, newspaper-wise!

Probably. I give up trying to disentangle the difference. Even when I quote from what I think is the Observer, the url thingy says it's from the Guardian.

The Guardian\Observer thing? (Seems to be from the Guardian.) Or the promoting of Jacob Rees Mogg? It seems, to me, to be about 50\50 on the latter.

Strange, I was able to access it.

It's just about London Economics argument that Rees-Mogg would benefit from hard Brexit because of his investment company that specialises in emerging markets. It shows how this is a bit of a simplistic argument, with no guarantees that hard Brexit would lead to any more trade with emerging markets, as even with new barriers the EU would still be easier to trade with. I suspect this is probably true, that hard Brexit is more of a general ideological outlook for Rees-Mogg than a specific money making scheme. As opposed to the hedge fund bosses who funded the leave campaign who are much more likely to be thinking purely of their own short term profit potential. Rees-Mogg is more of an instinctive deregulate everything, throw out all the health and safety and environmental protections so I can make more money, don't give a toss about other people, kind of git. Unfortunately, whether with boundary changes or not, he looks pretty safe for the forseeable future. :(

"Theresa May is facing a growing revolt among party donors...

With mounting accusations across the party that May is dithering over Brexit and lacking an inspiring domestic agenda...the former owner of Newcastle United, told the Observer that the prime minister was facing a make-or-break period of her premiership. The north-east businessman, who has given the Conservatives more than £500,000 since 2007 and helped fund May’s snap election, said the prime minister needed to make clear where she wanted to take the country, even if doing so led to her removal."

McDonnell is talking rubbish about nationalization costing "absolutely nothing" because you've got an asset. It's deficit neutral, but that isn't the same thing at all.

He's also mentioned structuring public services so that it's extremely hard to outsource again. This is going to lead to huge sums of money being wasted.

Get some experts in. I haven't seen any since the fiscal council.

not as much rubbish as the privatisation and outsourcing improving efficiency, being greta for consumers and various other unicorns

One thing that politics has taught me recently is that electorates have the attention span of a gnat so any attempts to try to explain complexity will lose against simplistic arguments that are focused on appealing to the emotional side

Those that immediately shout at this are also the same that say that we didn't give away free money to the banks as is sometimes portrayed

In the end though we have to do something to try and backtrack on the rape of the public services since 1979 and the transfer of swathes of public money into the pockets of the wealthy who have then used that to drive up assets prices

If only people spent more time looking into the detail of actual examples privatisation and outsourcing in as much detail as they do in putative Labour policies for a future election
