Consultation outcome

Warm Home Discount Scheme 2018 to 2019

In what seemed like eons ago and more hopeful times,not least because it was not beyond the realms of possibility I argued for the extension of WFP to DLA recipients high rate care/certain conditions.

My argument is that if you want to facillitate otherwise in hospital/lessen need for "intervention" treatments in own home,attend to the extra costs in a more bespoke fashion rather than income based,not least because obviously with high costs you are more likely to become low incomed over time.We did receive payments from hospital for dialysis extra costs/companies have schemes (as bemoaned by IDS but now published by DWP as part of
possible support) I think this should be more general.DLA is for extra costs,just think there is a possibility of supplementing in one way or another.

Her case highlights once again the drastic shortage of accessible housing across the country.

Morning All

@Frog about to read your Brexit piece. In the mean time, here's a very interesting, and quite long, piece from the Irish perspective.

https://www.rte.ie/news/brexit/2018/061 ... ly-brexit/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I hadn't really thought before about the political pressure on the Irish government, who risk being seen as too placatory towards Brexit by their own voters.

It is Government policy to leave the EU. Instead of getting bogged down in factionalism the entire Government irrespective of the stance of individual Ministers on Brexit must show national leadership & get out there, extol the benefits of Brexit & deliver for Britain.
We look forward to the extolations! Or extolments. Or whatever they are.

Last week I came to the House to answer an Urgent Question regarding two PIP appeals to the Upper Tribunal (known as AN and JM) that I had withdrawn. I was unable to comment on a related case that was pending an appeal to the Court of Appeal (known as LB) as it concerned ongoing litigation, and I committed to updating the House at the earliest opportunity on this case when I was able to do so.

I carefully considered this appeal and have decided to not continue with it in order to provide certainty to the claimant involved. The March 2017 amending regulations (Regulations 2(2) and (3) of the Social Security (Personal Independence Payment) (Amendment) Regulations 2017) clarified the Department’s position on PIP Daily Living Activity 3 (managing a therapy or monitoring a health condition) and therefore further litigation is unnecessary.

On Wednesday 13th June I received confirmation that the Court of Appeal had consented to my Department’s application to withdraw the appeal in the LB case, and I am pleased to confirm the claimant will be receiving arrears of benefit as soon as possible.

"My Department has now begun work to apply the law as stated by the Upper Tribunal in LB and will take all steps necessary to implement it in the best interests of all affected claimants for the period 28 November 2016 (the date of the Upper Tribunal decision in LB) to 16 March 2017 (when the amendment to activity 3 came into force). This work will include a review exercise later in the year. We expect that around 1,000 claimants will be affected."

One of Chope's arguments for his behaviour in the commons is that he disagrees on principle with Private Member's Bills, saying that they simply don't get the same kind of parliamentary scrutiny. Well...

Tory MP who blocked private bill to outlaw upskirting has sponsored 47 private bills himself
If he is so against private members’ bills in principle, then why has Chope himself sponsored a private members’ bill to make Brexit a bank holiday? And how come he has also personally sponsored a private members’ bill to force NHS patients to pay for treatment.

In an extraordinary interview with German newspaper Zeit, Nigel Farage called the reporter a “nutcase”, told him he should be on a “comedy show”, and was “away with the fairies”, and terminated the interview after the fourth intervention from his press officer.
He doesn't like being asked questions about his meetings with Russians and Julian Assange for some reason. Much happier having cosy pro-Brexit propaganda chats on the BBC I expect.

May come from the common reflection that servicemen would often dream of saving up to go home and buying a farm to settle on after the war or their deployment is up, but the deceased receive a small plot of land (the grave) automatically.

The material also appears to show that Andy Wigmore, spokesman for the Leave.EU campaign and the business partner of Arron Banks, the biggest funder of Brexit, passed confidential legal documents to high-ranking officials at the Russian embassy and then denied it to parliament.

"Some people may remember seeing a figure on the side of a bus a while back of £350m a week in cash," she said.

"I can tell you that what I'm announcing will mean that in 2023-24 there will be about £600m a week, more in cash, going into the NHS.

"That will be through the Brexit dividend. The fact that we're no longer sending vast amounts of money every year to the EU once we leave the EU."
But Mrs May also acknowledged that "as a country" more will need to be contributed.
She did not spell out that would require tax rises, although a recent report by the Institute for Fiscal Studies said they would be needed as it was hard to imagine the money could be found from economic growth or raiding other areas of government spending

@tinybgoat

This is a tricky one!

Reading about the Brexit dividend on Twitter, I realise it's really important that we highlight that the problems with the NHS and the feeble economy originate with the Coalition. It was the Coalition that got us into this mess and painted the backdrop on which a Leave vote became possible.

IMHO, arguments that there is no Brexit dividend, while largely spot on, are fraught with difficulty!
