Weird kinds of symmetry still occuring years after, lump sum payout of one pension,I recently pursued strikingly similar amount I paid to finish the mortgage off early, secured at the time it would have finished etc.

North Korea accuses US of 'gangster-like' behavior after Pompeo talks
The Telegraph's main headline for this on their mobile site was 'World War Three'. You know, Home news, sports news, World War Three news...North Korea has said that high-level talks with a US delegation led by Mike Pompeo were regrettable and accused Washington of trying to unilaterally pressurise the country into abandoning its nuclear weapons.

@adam
I suppose given where we've been on Brexit a lot of folk would give a sigh of relief if we ended up with a Norway style proposal. I don't want a Norway, but it clearly would not be the end of the world for the UK. And businesses and other organisations small and large could work with it.
In any case, there would then be a lengthy transition period into such a thing. And the hope that with time and "events" it might never happen.
That's the optimist in me BTW
Other times I just want to hide!

So much for collective responsibility.
Someone should remind Boris he's a government minister now, not a journalist. He's as responsible as May for the latest Brexit plans. He's criticising himself. Twat.

What is more, it won't change anything if we all spend all week watching it ! But I suppose it might be a way of demonstrating to ourselves how 'caring' we are ? Disaster Porn --
Noun. When the media puts horrific or tragic images on a 24 hour loop, constantly driving them into your head, and then refers to the events portrayed as an "unspeakable tragedy" . .. .despite the fact that they have four different talking heads analyzing it 24 hours a day.
Often times disaster porn is used to generate financial support. Most commonly associated with 9/11, where every mention of the "terrorist outrage" was followed by an infomercial for NYPD t-shirts and American flag bumper stickers.
"This is just horrible. I can't even bear to look." Said Geraldo Rivera as he rewound the disaster porn tape of the World Trade Center collapsing for the 10,000th time that day. "Buy 'I LOVE AMERICA' bumper stickers and NYPD hats now!"

Except you get the feeling Boris is just waiting for May to sack him to put his underdog, standing up for Tory leave voters, bid for leadership plan into action.

Johnson is desperate to be sacked, May is well aware of this.
And its quite possible that the longer he remains in "office", the more ridiculous he looks.

Re: Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th July 2018
I have an uncle who is a keen pot-holer. It's a popular hobby here on the Mendips, so the challenges of cave rescues is something I'm somewhat familiar with. My uncle was on the scene for a particularly difficult rescue many years ago of a caver who had a fall and broke his leg while deep underground. It was featured on the TV show 999 rescue. One injured experienced caver with no added difficulty of increasing water levels was challenging enough. The task they're facing in Thailand is unimaginable. Why we become invested in the fate of one set of strangers but not others is an interesting question but I think it's more a case of needing to not be invested for our own sanity for the majority of the time. There are personal tragedies unfolding all the time around the world. We can't emote over all of them. But there's something about people being trapped underground that particularly seems to draw people's sympathy and attention. I don't really know why that is. But I'd rather hear all about such rescues after they've been successfully been completed, I have to say. This Thailand rescue is quite unprecedented and it's very hard to tell what will happen.frog222 wrote:What is more, it won't change anything if we all spend all week watching it ! That's it, really. When they put [the boys] in the water with scuba gear on, the only real danger is panic. If they can get them used to being underwater and breathing underwater they will get them out safely.
If they're able to get them in the water at first nearby where they can come up again if necessary to get over their initial fear, they should be ok afterwards.
Mr gilsey used to scuba dive but thank God, not in caves.

Imagine FIFA had announced last night that despite England's victory on the pitch, it will be Sweden who play Croatia in the semi-final. That's the way a lot of Brexiteers are feeling now: angry and powerless over what they see as an unaccountable elite overriding a clear result.

DExEU's Midnight Runners: David Davis, Suella Braverman and Steve Baker have all resigned tonight... with only 8 months until the #Brexit deadline. What a shambles
Re: Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th July 2018
Whereas poor Boris Johnson is "haunted", apparently. It must be very difficult for someone with no conscience to be presented with two matters of conscience (Heathrow and "Brexit") in such quick succession. Poor lamb.

It may take months for the EU to realise Davis has resigned.
