Theresa May: I will never accept EU's ideas on Irish Brexit border: EU27 must ditch ‘unworkable’ plans and break impasse, PM tells Belfast summit
1. We are committed to there being no change to the current border arrangements between ROI and NI
2. The UK will not be remaining within the CU or the SM
3. The UK will not accept NI remaining within the CU or the SM without us
4. We demand that somebody else sort this out.
So...In a speech in Belfast on Friday she is expected to brand the bloc’s calls for regulatory alignment north and south of the border as a “backstop” solution in the event of no deal as “unworkable”, and repeat her assertion that a border down the Irish Sea is unacceptable to any British prime minister.

Nice turn of phrase from Gary Younge.

It’s never their fault: why the Brexiteers love to cry betrayalAfter the recent Chequers gathering, Johnson said that accepting May’s Brexit deal would be like “polishing a turd”. He has a point. It’s now painfully clear that whatever agreement is reached, it will satisfy few leave or remain voters. What Johnson does not acknowledge is that it is his turd. If he is incapable of clearing up after himself, the least he can do is not blame the stench on others.

'Identity politics'

Re: Friday 20th July 2018
From Gary Younge's article
For all the bellyaching about the left’s obsession with “identity politics” – a term now so maligned it can mean whatever you want it to mean so long as you don’t like it – the right has most effectively leveraged identity (rallying people through race, nation, religion, gender, myth and nostalgia) to political and electoral ends.
“It used to be a pretty good deal to be a white, Christian male in America, but things have changed, and I think they do feel threatened,” Mutz told the New York Times.

There is also a good argument that the right are actually most fond of "political correctness" - their *own* kind, of course.

I do have some things in common with Theresa May. We both had fathers who were vicars. We both know the best way to do Brexit is not to do it at all. We are both hopelessly uncomfortable in large social gatherings. Luckily I have chosen a job where the latter isn’t a problem. So I was able to avoid the annual drinks party for lobby journalists at No 10 for the fifth year in a row and skip off home to watch TV. The prime minister wasn’t so fortunate and friends who went reported that she looked miserable throughout"".

It is genuinely amazing how Crace has come on in the last year or so, really thought he was awful when he orginally replaced the still missed Hoggart.

Well, that's it then. It's all off.Queen's private estate records £20m profit but could take Brexit hit
Duchy of Lancaster surplus rises 4.9% on last year but Brexit is seen as ‘strategic risk’
The Queen’s accountants have warned Brexit is a potential risk to her finances as she received another record multimillion-pound surplus from her private estate last year. (Guardian - my emphasis)
(Although, having said that, I'm sure we'd all be happy to shell out for any shortfall. God save the Quing.)

Despite her supposed lack of power, maybe she is *the* one person who might actually "stop Brexit"?? Now there's a thought......

Re: Friday 20th July 2018
So let me see if I have this right.
The right have been jeering almost incessantly at Labour for their attempt at making the definition and examples for anti-Semitism workable for a code of conduct...while their own party's code said nothing about it at all until a couple of days agi.
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And even then all they've done is to shoehorn it in that makes it seem that it's the only belief worth mentioning.
