The latest fad. You can't move for edu people claiming that what they're doing is this.

Bet they've already worked out who's getting this - usual suspects only should apply...

So @billybragg has just tweeted Jews have "work to do" in rebuilding trust with Jeremy Corbyn. Billy Bragg. Corbynism is a cancer. It's a cancer that eats into everything and everyone.

Michael Rosen is protesting against some particularly evil outsourcing ( many or all the conditions of employment would be illegal here)

https://twitter.com/MichaelRosenYes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

From petition for staff ,

"It is also imperative that Goldsmiths distances itself from ISS. ISS previously held a contract at SOAS, where in one particularly gross betrayal of trust, ISS management called an emergency meeting for all cleaning staff where, once inside, they were met by at least 20 immigration officers dressed in full riot gear, who detained and later deported some workers. The cleaners were locked in a classroom and escorted one-by-one into another classroom where they were interrogated.

They neither had access to union support nor legal representation and many were allegedly unable to fully understand what was happening due to the absence of interpreters. Six of the workers were forcibly removed to South American countries, including Colombia, where gross human rights abuses against trade unionists are regularly documented. Two workers were subsequently held in immigration detention for a sustained period of time.

All of this was done as a form of intimidation and to discourage other agency workers from fighting for union representation and a ‘living wage’.[iii] The threat that ISS could at any moment perpetrate such coercive and duplicitous actions creates a hostile environment for cleaners to work within. Surely this state of affairs contradicts many if not all of the values that Goldsmiths College stands for? "

My understanding is that Grimes won't be able to use crowd-funded money to pay his £20,000 fine because it's covered by the same rules as election funding. All donors must be UK residents and give a full name and address and these conditions aren't met by crowd-funding sites.

So if Tory MPs are genuine about helping this poor, misfortunate victim of Vote Leave's inability to stick to the rules they're going to need to dip into their own personal pockets to bail him out and put their names to it for all to see.

Crowd-funded money could be used for legal fees, but does that mean these MPs believe Grimes will be prosecuted by the police or do they think the Electoral Commission verdict can be challenged?

Ultimately these MPs are part of the Parliament that decided on the rules that would cover the referendum campaign. They are saying Grimes is being unfairly treated for being fined in accordance to the rules and procedures they themselves set. Really quite remarkable.

Stockpile food in the event of a no-deal Brexit? Dream on
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... t-dream-on" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The UK food sector, like the UK car industry and much of the high-end goods and services economy, is a finely tuned machine, and the sort of disruption we might see in the event of a no-deal Brexit, such as chaos and delays at the border, would result in it grinding to a halt.

With their comments – presumably meant to assure us that they have a plan, or at least a clue – May and her ministers have shown us instead how woefully under-prepared we are.

So, what do the three leading Jewish publications actually mean by "existential threat"??

Are they saying that the present Labour leader enthusiastically backs a second Holocaust? That he wants to expel all Jews from these isles, or indeed simply make their lives here intolerable in some way?? Or even that he thinks Jews should not have the rights accorded to other minorities in Britain?

No, none of these things. Regrettably, I suspect their real problem with him is his consistent advocacy for Palestinian rights.

In the continuing debates about IHRA this should not be forgotten, however much some might wish us to.

AK -- thanks for starting it off today :-) Does anyone else remember LBJ and the Pig-farmer ? And the idea of JC creeping out at night to daub swastikas on synagogues ...

A sound one from TBG last night --
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
"WELCOME TO THE WITCH HUNT
or WOULD THE LABOUR PARTY EXPEL EINSTEIN FOR ANTISEMITISM?"

This I find conclusive on the Silly Ken Livingston, which is NOT ancient history, and the long-running campaign ! --

The anti-Semitism offensive orchestrated against Jeremy Corbyn

"During a radio interview on anti-semitism in May 2016, Livingstone ventured on to incendiary historical ground: “When Hitler won his election in 1932, his policy then was that Jews should be moved to Israel. He was supporting Zionism before he went mad and ended up killing six million Jews.”

There were lots of problems with Livingstone’s foolhardy statement. The date should have been 1933; there was no Israel then, it was Palestine; and the phrase “went mad” implied that Hitler’s earlier expulsion policy might be seen as sane.

But the mix of inaccuracy and clumsiness of Livingstone’s off-the-cuff remarks are not what got him into trouble: it was the claim that Hitler “was supporting Zionism”. Almost immediately the media reformulated Livingstone’s statement as “Hitler was a Zionist”, even though it seemed patently obvious that was not a fair summary of what he said or meant.

In English, the formulation “Hitler was supporting Zionism” is ambiguous and could mean either that Hitler liked or sympathised with Zionism as an ideology, or that he assisted or facilitated Zionism’s aims, possibly unintentionally.

The distinction is important because there are plenty of respectable historians of that period who would agree with the second meaning, and almost none who would concur with the first. Certainly, the second meaning is no proof of anti-semitism.

But no one in the media or among Corbyn’s critics was interested in raking over the troubling but documented ties between early Nazis and sections of the Zionist movement, even though it was the key to understanding Livingstone’s remark.

It's a long read, covering the Al Jazeerah exposés and much else . Jonathan Cook , highly recommended .

I think the reason those in the 'bubble' carry on with this line is that they know JC can't win. He responds in his usual calm way and it is, as you say, ineffectual, or if he fought back the accusations of anti-semitism would intensify given that many of the accusers are jewish themselves.

It's a very effective line of attack within the metropolitan bubble but I'm not sure it has much resonance outside it.

Dominic Raab, the new Brexit secretary, has arrived in Brussels for talks with Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator.

In an article for the Daily Mail, Raab says that with “ambition, hard work and energy” the government will be able to strike the right deal for the UK. (Politics Live, Guardian)

Well, I'm not in anyone's 'bubble' , and I see we agree that he didn't fight back !

Look carefully at the few paragraphs by Jonathan Cook above . Another leader could have come out fighting on that, actually educating people on the context, forensically demolishing journalists who twisted the wording, but instead JCorbyn appointed SC to look .... slowly ... into it .

Well, we can't change the man's character and lifelong choice not to be in positions where he had to take serious responsibilities. Till now, but that was accidental ! And I'm still waiting for those who attack him to name their alternative :-)

I would very much like to see some genuine informed polling about AS and the present Labour controversy.

Not that you would ever guess it the way most of the media go on, but all the evidence is that uncritical backing for everything Israel does is actually not at all popular with voters.

This is from 2015 , more homework :-)--

" Jews don’t form a homogeneous voting bloc, but they have in the past been a barometer: long left-leaning, they strongly backed Margaret Thatcher in the 1980s before swinging heavily to New Labour in 1997.

This week, a poll for the Jewish -Chronicle found that 69 per cent of Jews intend to vote Tory next month, with Labour trailing on only 22 per cent. Moreover, while 64 per cent said David Cameron had the best attitude towards British Jewry, only 13 per cent picked Miliband as the best supporter of the community. The Jewish Chronicle poll found 73 per cent of Jews said the parties’ approach toward Israel and the Middle East was ‘very’ or ‘quite’ important in determining how they would vote, and by 65 to 10 per cent Cameron led Miliband on having the best attitude.

Community activists believe Miliband’s position on Israel has become such a sticking point that many Jews who traditionally vote Labour can’t bring themselves to do so. One said: ‘They have been forced to choose between their party and their support for Israel in a way they never thought they would be.’ Some have already made that choice: last autumn, Maureen Lipman declared that, for the first time in five decades, she wouldn’t be voting Labour. At the same time, Kate Bearman, a former director of Labour Friends of Israel, resigned her party membership.

Even some Jewish Labour activists believe the party has written the community off electorally. This could turn out to be a costly miscalculation. There are a string of marginals — Finchley and Golders Green, Hendon, Brent Central, Ilford North, Hornsey and Wood Green, Hampstead and Kilburn, Harrow East, Harrow West and Hove — where Miliband has little room for error and Jewish voters could provide the difference between victory and defeat.

The Labour leader has, says one sympathetic observer, shown a great deal of ‘carelessness’ in his dealings with the Jewish community. If that carelessness costs him the keys to No. 10, he continues, the ‘tragedy will be complete’. "
