Toady had a bit on it this morning, but I couldn't bear any more when they had some smooth-talking junior minister on to defend UC.
By contrast France Culture radio had their usual quality output, this time on the recent death of Faurisson the holocaust denier in chief . ( Searching "Faurisson death", there are plenty of Anglophone mourners out there .) So do you give the "proud racist" Bannon a platform ?

Only just twigged that Andrea Jenkyns has Ed Balls old constituency, I'm a bit slow on the uptake sometimes.
What were they thinking?
2015 really was a very odd GE.

One which I read with particular interest, given its location this week :)

His rave review of Lisa Nandy made me think of what might have been - she really should have returned to the SC after Corbyn's re-election as leader.

Though it has to be said that Balls was partly the architect of his own misfortune there.

(it is reliably reported that he even turned down the offer of assistance from party HQ during the campaign, imagining that he was quite safe)

Andrea Jenkyns needs a full team behind her. She has a magic quality, just as Mrs. T did in the mid 70s. Not the finished item - yet. But precisely the kind of honest, rational, conviction politician the Conservative Party - and, more importantly, the country - is crying out for.

" Those said to be at risk included one of the key architects of UC, the former Conservative leader Iain Duncan Smith, whose majority of 2,438 was significantly outweighed by the 6,180 households expected to be moved on to UC. Sharma is defending a majority of 2,876 in a constituency where 6,567 households were expected to feel the impact of the shake-up. "
Something else for the Opposition to focus on .
PS edit -- losing their seats couldn't happen to more deserving members .

Britain’s chancellor prepares to raise taxes
Philip Hammond is hemmed in by his manifesto, but must find the money somewhere
Given his previous (failed) attempt to raise NI contributions for higher earning self-employed, another try at taxing people who have money in a way they can't avoid would be consistent. This one might be worth keeping an eye out for:
Rumours swirl that Mr Hammond wants to restrict income-tax relief on pension contributions to the basic rate of 20%, rather than the saver’s marginal rate. Doing so could yield £10bn a year.

"Disabled people who can only do limited work are meanwhile seeing their support reduced after working just six hours a week, rather than 16 hours a week in the previous system – meaning somebody working 12 hours a week can be over £100 month worse off – according to the findings."

By design, and of course if you are still at parents home when an adult, the household is not exempt from the cap regardless of so called protections of DLA/PIP.Now,you can view particular pernicious consequences specific to situation ,single, homeowner, non spare rooms, working beyond just UC and benefits/allowances as historical amnesia(as to why there were accounting/facillitations of non instutionalism/beholden to family/charity)design fault, difficult,or blindingly obvious targeting but the message/social engineering effects are the same.

"Bomb suspect arrest: What we know about Cesar Sayoc"
Cesar Sayoc's political inclinations were passionately displayed for everyone to see.

His social media accounts and the windows of his white van were plastered with messages supporting the President, and provocative photos and memes attacking liberals. Facebook video showed him in a MAGA hat at Trump rally in 2016.

He was also open with a former boss, who says Sayoc called himself a white supremacist. Debra Gureghian said Sayoc told her that lesbians like her and other minorities should be put on an island. And though he liked her, she would be the first person he would burn, Gureghian recalled.
........
Even though she hated his political leanings, she wouldn't fire him because he did his job and there were no complaints, Debra Gureghian said.

"He was a model employee," she said, adding that she "can't understand" how he would allegedly send mail bombs.
Hate to think what her other employees have been like.
