Re: Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September 2019
Why has BBC News got a discussion panel talking about the "upcoming election"?
Did they schedule it in before Johnson lost his vote on Wednesday and didn't have anything else to replace it with?
I mean, I know an election is becoming inevitable but they were talking like it's already underway

Well there is going to be another election at *some* point (unless PM Johnson is even more of a dictator than in our worst imaginings) and "upcoming" is a rather flexible word

Re: Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September 2019
Yes, of course.
Not at all about laying the groundwork for acceptance of a deal between the Tories and the Brexit Party. That would just be cynical manipulation and not at all something our objective and impartial national broadcaster would cynically and manipulatively do.

Well lots of Tories assure me there is not the slightest chance of any such deal - should I believe them?

Whether British public are right or not is irrelevant - polls suggesting higher trust for Johnson than Corbyn, given a) Johnson and b) this week - surely demand some kind of action?

Re: Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th September 2019
I think it demands that the British public take a much longer and harder look at Johnson before they are asked for their verdict in a GE. Until November 1st should do it.tinyclanger2 wrote:Whether British public are right or not is irrelevant - polls suggesting higher trust for Johnson than Corbyn, given a) Johnson and b) this week - surely demand some kind of action?

Polls can often be lagging indicators in these things anyway.

In the last half an hour or so, BBC TV News was reporting (with film footage) on some sort of "Brexiteer" v police fracas in Westminster. I've looked everywhere for reference to it, but it seems to have now completely dropped out of sight.

It could well have been a related, break-away incident. The one I'm referring to took place on the approach to the cenotaph.Lost Soul wrote:Was it this :PorFavor wrote:In the last half an hour or so, BBC TV News was reporting (with film footage) on some sort of "Brexiteer" v police fracas in Westminster. John Mann has resigned from Labour to take up the post of antisemitism tsar with the Tories.
At least I think this is true....

I think there are only 289 of them

I'm thinking that Boris Johnson is (highly irresponsibly) trying to play the martyr - knowingly encouraging civil unrest.

Oh - and the Conservative whip. Is that the 17th LibDem that Gloria Swanson was hinting at, earlier?

Sajid Javid, on the Andrew Marr programme, was repeatedly side-stepping ruling out the Conservative Party joining forces with Nigel Farage.

If they do that, they can probably say goodbye to another few dozen Tory MPs.PorFavor wrote:Sajid Javid, on the Andrew Marr programme, was repeatedly side-stepping ruling out the Conservative Party joining forces with Nigel Farage.
Quite likely the same if they openly break the law re an A50 extension.
These things are not consequence free.

I like to think that the EU has enough expertise at their disposal to scupper this (no doubt Dominic Cummings inspired) move without expending too much time and energy on it.

Macron postures about giving the UK extensions to the Brexit deadline for his domestic audience.
But with an early GE all but inevitable here, it is almost inconceivable that the EU won't at least wait and see what transpires.
