Disappointing by-election for Labour in Bromsgrove last night.
Anatoly may have more info, but at first sight it looks like what could happen if there's no Brexit / UKIP to split the Tory vote and the anti-Tory vote does split

We also saw that in Exeter last week. Though this Labour result was *so* bad that its hard to believe just such general factors were responsible.PaulfromYorkshire wrote:Disappointing by-election for Labour in Bromsgrove last night.

Farage saying that BxP will fight most seats after all (unless Johnson accepts some "demands" that he can't and won't)
People saying this is bad news for the Tories, but of course they got a majority in 2015 "despite" a significant UKIP vote......

Re: Friday 1st November 2019
Three local council byelections this week:
Warwick DC - firstly a Tuesday poll saw a LibDem hold with 55% of the vote, an increase of seven points since May. This ward returned three LibDems in the post-boundary change elections this year, and they had generally dominated the two predecessor wards in recent years though the Tories had won one of them come GE day in 2015. They recovered a bit of that previous strength now with a double figure increase to 28%, whilst Labour clearly fell in share and to third place despite there being no Green candidate this time.
Windsor and Maidenhead - Tory hold with slightly over 40% and an increase of six points since May. The elections then were another one with wholesale boundary changes, and this moderately redrawn ward saw the Tories run much closer than usual by a localist Borough First slate with the LibDems in a decent third. This time round the LibDems increased from 20% to nearly 30% - and thus second place - whilst Borough First fell back. Amongst the also rans, Labour were also down but leapfrogged the Greens as they fell by more to 3% with two thirds of their May share gone. Womens Equality scored less than 1%.
Worcestershire CC - Tory gain from Labour in a division that has only been previously won by the Tories at their 2009 high point, but where they were close behind Labour in 2005 and (slightly less so) 2013 and 2017. Their 40% winning share was in fact almost unchanged since last time, and they were grateful for a remarkably even split in the three other candidates votes - firstly an Independent who fought on a platform opposing plans for "green belt" housing locally and was widely seen as a de facto Green candidate who came second with 22%, then the LibDems who trebled their share from two years ago and finally the Labour candidate who fell more than 30 points to just 18% - an astonishingly bad result and all the more inexplicable given that Labour actually performed well in the Bromsgrove DC wards making up this area in May.
Five contests to kick off November, and the GE campaign proper.
