Testing is the area that the public least trusts the government on, as well. Seems the government is determined to double down on that particular failing if it's true they are letting underpaid, unskilled amateurs employed by the like of Serco collect samples, but it's the inevitable consequence of austerity cuts to the numbers of nurses and other healthcare professionals employed in this country.

As some on twitter have observed, he looks particularly well and rested.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Boris IS BACK!! Does this fill you all with joy?
In contrast to the run down and haggard look he's been sporting since Christmas.
Dumping all the responsibility for running the country on Dominic Raab for a few weeks clearly suits him.

And still are, I fear. The reason we tried containment in a half hearted way without social distancing support or border controls were because politicians were too content with a strategy that would kill huge numbers of people.

Well, in some ways it's good that he's back as there was a sense of dithering and "We can't do anything until Boris is back" which was a little odd anyway since we're told hat this isn't a Presidential system.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Boris IS BACK!! Does this fill you all with joy?
Whether anything will change now that he is back - we'll wait and see.

It also emerged during the legal hearings that the businessman, who earned £160,000 heading the trust, lied about having held a senior position at John Lewis and a board position at the British Airports Authority (BAA), and to have run a venture capital bank.
While Kane had served as commercial services director for BAA, he was never on the board and never graduated from the sales floor at John Lewis.
Now a freedom of information request has revealed the DfE spent £44,668 in legal costs fighting Geraldine Hackett’s request to make the information public, including about £26,000 in government legal department fees and £18,000 in counsel’s fee.

Before the Tory government slashed bereavement benefits for families, there was a safety net in place that would have caught people affected in this way automatically. I hope I'm not expected to applaud them for temporarily re-instating something they should never have taken away in the first place.Hancock says families of NHS staff who die during their coronavirus work will get payments worth £60,000.
And he says the government is looking at what can be done to help the families of other frontline workers who have died during the crisis.

The typical lowish number for hospital deaths on a Monday, I see. Next few days may give a better indication of how fast the totals are actually coming down.
