Homecare in the time of coronavirus
I think HindleA would have appreciated it.

Have a look at the clock on Keir Starmer's wall.

5 past 11...so either he was late for it, keeps his clock 5 mins fast, or asked for the photo to be taken afterwards.

It seems the Great British Public aren't as revolutionary as Brexit might have implied. People thought they were voting for a safe and secure past, not an uncertain, disaster capitalism future. The Tories understood this, encouraged these false notions, yet even so have been floored a little it seejs by the deep vein of small 'c' conservatism running through the British public that has enthusiastically embraced the paternalistic restrictions of lockdown in a true 'Blitz' spirit and aren't, it seems, any where near as desperate to get back to the treadmill as our wealthy overlords are.
Let's hope the public continue to shoot down those "lockdown busting" kites that are currently flying and quietly refuse to go back to work until their safety is placed before company profits.
Great title, very succinct. How the Government Screwed Up On Coronavirus So Badly

Re: Tuesday 28th April 2020
Starmer has been criticised by some for making the need for a government "exit strategy" a key part of his message. But surely the above is a key reason why he is doing so - many don't trust the government and think they will try to force everything "back to normal" before it is actually safe to do so.
If there is actually something definable that they can be held to, that becomes all the harder.

Good morfternoon.
Gove says scientific advisers determined what was held in PPE pandemic stockpile
In the House of Commons, in response to a question from the SNP’s Pete Wishart, Michael Gove, the Cabinet Office minister, suggested that the government’s scientific advisers bore some responsibility for the shortage of PPE (personal protective equipment). (Politics Live, Guardian)
Re: Tuesday 28th April 2020
Gove blaming his government's scientific advisers is a small, inadequate response from this government minister
Re: Tuesday 28th April 2020
(cJA bold)While the UK’s major internet providers have agreed to remove data caps on fixed-line broadband during the coronavirus pandemic, this does not apply to the estimated 1.9 million households with no internet data or the 25.9 million pay-as-you-go customers, who make up over a quarter of all mobile phone subscriptions in the UK.

I also thought after the 2016 pandemic test it was recommended to the government that stocks were inadequate.
I also got the very strong impression from the Panorama programme that stocks had become even more depleted between 2016 and now.
All of which is a roundabout way of wondering whether the amount of stockpile the scientific advisors thought we had and thought was adequate was, in fact, the same as the stockpile we actually had by Jan 2020.

In any case didn't the subject of Brown's ire actually go on and vote Labour?

It’s 10 years since bigotgate. It exposed much. Concern about community, nationhood and the impact of immigration was dismissed as swivel-eyed bigotry by our New Labour elites. It would bring Brown’s coronation and New Labour’s technocratic and Oxbridge-class rule to a swift end.

Matt Hancock laughs off the questions from the New Scientist as they're "too science-y" (I paraphrase).

This beautiful song came to mind today. Written about a very different scenario, but resonates for me.
