The flag the government seem to be flying is about loosening up - but what they seem to be suggesting is that so long as you stay in your self-isolating household and carry on paying strict attention to social distancing guidelines, then you might go out a bit more, for longer, and without needing the strict necessity of food, medicine or daily exercise.

What people seem to be hearing is 'it's over, we can all go and meet up again'.

This doesn't seem like a good thing. What's been going on for the last few weeks has been (surprisingly) successfully complied with, in part because it was blunt, clear and 'strict'. If you start trying to do this whilst being fuzzy you haven't got a hope.

Meanwhile, the local press have just taken down the last week of comments on their daily columnist. Obviously, they are carrying out the long established role of the free press in a democracy of making sure the State doesn't get questioned too closely.

Good morning.

World cannot return to 'business as usual' after Covid-19, say mayors
City leaders representing more than 750 million people have published a “statement of principles”, which commits them to putting greater equality and climate resilience at the heart of their recovery plans.

I know this is a complete irrelevance but it's in the Guardian Sport YouTube archive article today - Ronnie O'Sullivan making a 147 in the time it took Peter Ebdon to make a break of 12, shown in real time in split screen.

This is in response to a tweet from Kerchingski and I'd like to think Helen's right. Also, pigs might fly.

Sigh, my MP. When the tory council wanted to close my daughter's school he publically argued with them, calling them on on their dodgy use of data and generally doing the right thing.

That's pretty much it though. I particularly recommend this twitter thread about tariffs.

Yes, looks like Jenrick has badly misjudged this one. Which confirms the impression of him as a lightweight ideologue.

Anecdotally, went out this morning and things definitely seemed their busiest for weeks - even if still some way from "normal".

(though this may also partly be a pre-Bank Holiday thing)

Even these things are relative (well, a bit) and he is definitely one of the worse ones.

It's a Sunday night announcement from Boris Johnson because he wants to have the most up-to-date figures to inform his decision? That makes no sense, since we are always being told that the Monday figures are not necessarily an accurate picture because of the "week-end effect".

From my urban Midlands village location, you'd think the lockdown over given the traffic volume and lack of physical distancing when socialising.

Not going to link to it, but the Mail's headline is 'Not so fast Boris! Starmer and Sturgeon blow hole in bit to ease lockdown'.

We're all in it together.

Boris Johnson did not share any details of his plans for easing the lockdown with Nicola Sturgeon or other devolved government leaders in a phone call which ended a short while ago, Sturgeon’s office has said. (Politics Live, Guardian)

Interesting to see that the Telegraph tomorrow is leading with Starmer.

Signs of them losing patience with their star sometime-columnist?
