It appears that Cummings forgot to tell Serco to tell the NHS about the compulsory masking of all their hospital personnel . Or is this another Cunning Plan ?

Six four-engined military planes low overhead an hour ago !

But no mass para drop on Sainte-Mère Eglise today . Still taken very seriously here .

Rather intriguing that the poll boost many thought Trump might get from all this, has very much not materialised.

Everything Parris says about Johnson was known before the GE.

Here's Gauke, also stating the obvious

I think that Parris was one of the relatively few right wing hacks who always had Johnson's number tbf.

Relatively few, you think?
Johnson's been around in politics for a while now.
I'd say the vast majority knew who/what he was, they still told us to vote for him, and that it was Corbyn who was unelectable.

Yes but Johnson is someone who got matey with the vast majority of them nonetheless (remember that utterly cringey scene with the mugs of tea outside his house?)

Parris declined to "bend the knee" even when most did, to his credit (pretty sure he voted LibDem at the last GE)

Serco wins Covid-19 test-and-trace contract despite £1m fine

Calls for government to cancel £45m deal with outsourcing company over track record of poor performance

Serco, one of the companies that has secured a lucrative government contract for the Covid contact-tracing programme, was fined more than £1m for failures on another government contract just months ago, the Observer has learned.

The revelation has led to campaigners against the privatisation of public services to call for the £45.8m test-and-trace contract to be cancelled.

The junior health minister, Edward Argar, is a former Serco lobbyist. (Observer)

Antisemitism claims have one goal: To stop Jeremy Corbyn winning power

Jonathan Cook 26 November 2019 11:34 UTC
Its recent Panorama programme “Is Labour Anti-Semitic?” presented 17 former Labour staffers attacking the Corbyn-led party. But the programme-makers failed to identify who these critics were. Many were in fact Israel lobbyists – one was even a former employee of the Israeli embassy in London.

While the show included one person replying to the complaints, it entirely excluded the many Jewish voices in Labour that defend Corbyn. Philo observed that both the BBC and Guardian, two media organisations often seen as offering a counterweight to the right-wing press, had repeatedly failed to address the evidence of whether Labour actually had an antisemitism problem.

“That is a key source of their power - they can impose silence and simply refuse to discuss their own role,” he concluded. Not surprisingly given the current climate, the Bad News book itself came under fire for being antisemitic in questioning the media’s antisemitism narrative. A book launch in Brighton had to be cancelled after a torrent of abuse from Corbyn opponents.

I noticed this in the printed copy this morning.

Israel's West Bank plans condemned by leading British Jewish figures

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... itish-jews" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Some of the most prominent and respected names in British Jewry have raised alarm over the Israeli government’s plans to annex parts of the West Bank, saying such a move would be an existential threat to Israel.

Among more than 40 signatories of an unprecedented letter to the Israeli ambassador to the UK are Sir Ben Helfgott, one of the best-known Holocaust survivors in Britain; the historians Sir Simon Schama and Simon Sebag Montefiore; the former Conservative foreign secretary Sir Malcolm Rifkind; the lawyer Anthony Julius; the philanthropist Dame Vivien Duffield; the scientist Lord Robert Winston; the former MP Luciana Berger; the Times columnist Daniel Finkelstein; and the author Howard Jacobson.

Their letter to Mark Regev, conveying “concern and alarm” about the pledge by Israel’s new coalition government to extend its territory over swaths of the West Bank, is the latest indication of mounting disquiet among British Jews over the plan.
That led me to this.

https://www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/boar ... n-1.499917" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and...
Board president Marie van der Zyl told an online meeting of Hampstead Synagogue members she believed her organisation “should be a safe and tolerant space where people can put forward their views even if we disagree”.

The Board’s position, she said, is that it is “a matter for the Israelis and the Palestinians'' to negotiate borders in any future settlement agreement.

She added: “We want to stand by Israel. But if you are talking in terms of Mr Netanyahu - we are a non-political organisation.”

“We don't take sides in Israeli politics and we don't take sides in British politics.
:D

This might prove to be quite interesting if the BOD sit on the fence or refuse to condemn Israel. It might lead people to think that, actually, the BOD doesn't represent the majority of British Jews...

I think the only thing that can confidently be said about the Government's strategy is that it's based on one idea. Fuck it. Let's set a date and just see what happens. We've got away with it so far, we've got a big enough majority that nobody can actually stop us. So. Fuck it.

The Week in Tory

1. The govt reduced the UK-wide coronavirus alert level on the advice of the “Joint Biosecurity Centre"

2. Matt Hancock revealed the “Joint Biosecurity Centre” doesn’t exist yet

3. Boris Johnson said he was “very proud” of the UK’s response
4. After previously telling us facemasks were essential, then not essential, then essential, then not essential, then essential, then not essential (6 U-turn) the govt said facemasks were, actually, essential

5. But not until 15th June. 2 weeks more of them being not-essential
6. And then NHS leaders revealed they hadn’t been consulted on any of this

7. The govt announced dentists were returning to work the following day

8. And then dentists said they also hadn’t been consulted about this, or even warned it was happening
9. The govt announced it was relaxing the lockdown nationally, because it said the R level (infectivity rate) had fallen as low as 0.7

10. Within 2 days the R level had risen back above 1 in much of Northern England, but the govt has not reintroduced local lockdowns
11. The gov justified relaxing the lockdown because we would have a “world-beating Test and Trace” in place by 1st June

12. And then the next day, the head of the Test and Trace programme revealed it would not be operational until Sept
13. The following day it was revealed an "urgent Test and Trace programme" was recommended by experts in February, but not acted upon until May

14. Boris Johnson announced he is personally taking charge of the coronavirus response, a mere 138 days since the first UK case
15. The head of Outbreak Modelling at Imperial College said he was shocked that Covid-19 was still “spilling out of hospitals and care homes”

16. It was revealed advice was given to the govt on 24 Feb that there should be “no discharges to care or residential homes”
17. The Italian Health Minister has reported that Boris Johnson had told him UK govt policy was Herd Immunity

18. The govt and Boris Johnson continue to deny the policy has every been Herd Immunity, even though Boris Johnson went on TV and advocated it
20. The most comprehensive World Health Organisation study to date found the risk of Covid infection doubles if the 2-metre rule is reduced

21. Then Boris Johnson went on TV to say he wants to reduce the 2-metre distancing rule as soon as possible
22. Matt Hancock tweeted that he was proud we reached a 200,000 test capacity

23. The next day he said he was proud of a lower 171,000 tests

24. If you get a nasal, throat and antibody test, that counts as 3 tests, even if it’s 1 person

25. So 171,000 tests = 57000 people
26. At that rate it will take 1,175 days to test the whole UK. That’s 3 years and 3 months.

27. And almost 75,000 tests had to be redone because of problems in UK labs

28. Boris Johnson repeated he was “very proud” of the UK government's response
29. The govt said it would not open playgrounds, because children from different families meet there

30. The govt said it would reopen schools where - yes - children from different families meet

31. 44% of England’s schools did not trust the govt advice enough to re-open
31. The govt announced people could now meet in socially distanced groups in gardens, but under no circumstances could anybody enter the houses of friends and family

32. The govt said homeless people should “move in with friends and family”
33. Parliament stopped digital voting, leading to a 1.3 km long queue of MPs, right down the road and into a local park, waiting 90 minutes to do one vote.

34. MP’s often vote 8 times per day. Under the new system, this means they will do nothing at all except stand in queues.
35. No provisions had been made for extra security, or to protect those vulnerable to Covid-19.

36. Within 24 hours a cabinet minister was ill and needed to be tested. He said he tested negative.

37. It was later reported around 1/3 of tests produce false-negative results.
38. Only 12% of Britons say Parliament needs to physical voting, and there have been absolutely zero instances of voting irregularities under the digital

39. The House Of Lords continues to vote using the digital system
40. The Minister for Mental Health objected to Pier Morgan's criticisms, and tweeted "could you please avoid wherever possible calling people 'completely mad'”

41. And then it was revealed some time earlier, she had called people on Twitter “window-lickers”
42. A Tory MP breached guidelines by going to a barbeque during the lockdown, attended by the deputy chairman of Spectator, the Brexit Party chairman, and journalist Isabel Oakeshott.

43. All three of these defended Dominic Cummings, who is, incidentally, still not sacked
44. The govt criticised Chinese food standards and lack of transparency, which it said first caused, and then exacerbated coronavirus

45. And then the govt voted to lower UK food standards, and refused to publish a report on excess coronavirus deaths
46. In Jan the Environment Secretary said “we will not be importing chlorinated chicken, we will not be importing hormone-treated beef” as part of any future trade deal

47. The govt said it would import chlorinated chicken and hormone-treated beef as part of a US trade deal
48. In a single day the UK had 359 Covid-19 deaths, which was 45 more than the other 27 EU countries *combined*.

49. Boris Johnson, joint-leader of the Brexit campaign, announced he would start a “charm offensive” to get EU workers to return to the UK
50. Sir Paul Nurse, former President of the Royal Society, described talking to ministers about coronavirus as “like talking to a blancmange”

51. Boris Johnson said for a 4th time he was “very proud” of the UK govt's response

52. We still have 24 hours of the week to go...

""Testing, personal protective equipment, contact tracing: one after another the vital pieces of the machine we need to suppress the Coronavirus are being contracted out to private companies which are then failing. The cost has been the deaths of thousands of people.

The suspicion has long been that the decision to run the COVID-19 response through private companies was part of the market-driven mantra of ‘never waste a crisis’, with corporations so unscrupulous that – even now – they are more focused on profit than lives.

Now a leaked email from the CEO of Serco appears to confirms these suspicions, revealing how he doubted that the ‘test and trace’ scheme the company was contracted to provide would evolve smoothly but he wanted it to “cement the position of the private sector” in the NHS supply chain.

Having been contacted with disturbing stories about the failures of the testing regime, I submitted a Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the Department of Health and Social Care, seeking more information about the role of private companies in the Coronavirus testing programme.

I learned that testing contracts have gone to a string of corporations with little or no medical expertise: Deloitte, Boots, Serco, G4S, Mitie, Levy and Sodexco. Together, they have appointed more than 5,000 staff overseeing testing at 50 regional test centres. These sites are being managed by one person qualified only as a first-aider. No wonder so many tests are not returning reliable results. "

I agree that "I have no idea" is pretty dismal phrasing.

Much better would be something like "I don't know if Trump is a racist in his heart or not - only he knows that - but its his actions that matter".

On 19 April, the secretary of state for education, Gavin Williamson, announced the scheme, claiming it would “take the pressure off” parents and schools, and support children without any access to online learning while schools were shut.
When pressed on the question of numbers sent directly to headteachers this weekend, the Department for Education was unable to confirm whether any devices had been delivered.
BUT ...
It stated that, in May, laptops were being delivered “daily” to local authorities, who are responsible for distributing the devices to care leavers and pupils with a social worker, along with disadvantaged year 10 students at maintained secondary schools.

Thank you for more information; I've just been reading about it being taken down. I don't want anyone getting hurt. Is anyone going to get in trouble for doing this today? I'm concerned about that. Are other statues or other public ornaments going to come down? Again, I don't want anyone getting hurt. I hope protest participants are taking care of themselves and others preventing transmission of COVID-19.

Criminal damage.

But the miscreants won’t have any trouble crowd-funding their legal fees, if they’re caught.

The current location of the statue of Edward Colston is an excellent place for it.

And the timing of it with the current series of A House Through Time and the source of fund that were used to build the house couldn't be any better.

David Olusoga jas been doing a sterling job in batting away the racists today.

And Priti Patel? Trust her to be on the wrong side of the argument.
