Morning all.

What a surprise - more centralisation...

Revealed: NHS could take over social care, swelling budget to £150bn

https://www.theguardian.com/society/202 ... -cavendish" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Downing Street has drafted in David Cameron’s former policy chief Camilla Cavendish to help finalise proposals designed to honour Boris Johnson’s pledge to “fix the crisis in social care”.

Under plans being examined by Cavendish and ministers, the government would take responsibility for social care services away from councils in England – together with the £22.5bn in annual funding – and hand it to the NHS, the Guardian understands. On Monday night the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) denied it had plans to merge the two public services.
I have no issue with ensuring that the NHS and social care "system" works more closely together but this just looks like a "Oh look it's failing - why don't we just take it over and run it" approach.

“Chill out, Mum,” said the kids. “We’ll probably have a better time without him. At least we won’t have the embarrassment of being photographed on the beach again.”
Clue -- someone cutting short his holiday ....

Visit Europe from 1 January 2021
Travel to the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein will change from 1 January 2021.
Things you may need to do before you go include:
check your passport
get travel insurance that covers your healthcare
check you have the right driving documents
organise pet travel - contact your vet at least 4 months before you go

Christopher HopeMemo
@christopherhope
EXC Boris Johnson has launched the search for a new £100,000-plus a year spokesman to become the face of the Government in televised press conferences from this Autumn.
A job ad asks for someone to "communicate with the nation on behalf of the Prime Minister".
Apply by Aug 21.

I look forward to the TPA condemning this waste of public money but bet they won't.

28 July 2020
Deaths involving COVID-19
Up to 17 July 2020, there were 51,264 deaths registered in England and Wales involving the coronavirus (COVID-19) (28,215 men and 23,049 women).
---
By region, East Midlands and West Midlands were the only areas to see deaths in excess of the five-year average
https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulation ... 2020-03-26" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
(cJA bold)

I've not seen any headlines or much attention outside of people paying attention there are regions in the UK where deaths are in excess of of the five-year average.
